MacBook Pro :: Unacceptable WiFi Latency And Jitter
Jun 13, 2010
Over 250 ms to the router sometimes. It does the same thing at my house. My PowerBook would get a steady ping with less than 5 ms latency.
Hardware: 13 inch MacBook Pro, 2.26 Core 2 Duo, No 3rd party upgrades.

I'm getting this weird flickering on my mbp. It seems to be a fairly random event, which can be stopped by just moving the pointer.

I've seen various posts about the sharp edge on the front of the MBA keyboard. Although I think the MBA is fantastic in every other respect, I find this "design flaw" to be a real irritation, and can't imagine how it got through Apple's meticulous product testing process.
In my office I normally wear long-sleeved shirts, so the sharp edge doesn't present much of a problem, but on a long flight recently, my lower forearms were literally chafed after a 2-hour session with the MBA. I find it uncomfortable to rest my wrists on the keyboard for even a few minutes.

So, I'm having this strange jitter issue when I watch videos and sometimes brows the net. I've tried both Chrome and Firefox and this happens across the board.Â
Random video jitter, almost like an interference every now and then in Youtube and Netflix. Not just the video has the error, but sometimes the entire page. Someone else was having the same issue and they posted a video. [URL] ....
It's brief, but you can see it and it happens all the time, it really bothers me sometimes.Â

I have a late '08 MBP hooked up to a new 27" ACD, using a bluetooth apple keyboard and magic mouse. It's been working fine in all respects until I woke it up today. Everything is fine except the volume. If I tap volume up or down on the keyboard, there's serious latency (5-10 seconds) between me pressing the button and it showing the volume moving. Secondly (and more importantly), there's no sound at all (no matter what volume it's set at). I've already directed the sound through the monitor's speakers (like I said, everything was working just fine). I've tried rebooting, double-checking the sound settings, and disconnecting/reconnecting the bluetooth keyboard.

I have an issue that happens with my Macbook Pro. In certain applications, if I plug in my headphones - or unplug them, switching to speaker - from that point on the rest of the audio that the application outputs is delayed by about half-a-second. Now I could be talking-out-of-my-ass here, but this seems to *only* happen with applications that would be accessing the audio hardware through a more basic layer than the standard CoreAudio methods. For instance, it occurs in REAPER and Parallels, but not in Quicktime or iTunes. I find that if it does happen, if I can get the application to close the hardware and reopen it this fixes it. For instance, in Parallels I switch to a dummy output and then back, and it's fixed.

I've gone through two brand new 21.5" iMacs now, both with bad yellow tinge, unacceptable for the video and graphics stuff I need to do with it (and of course, for any new premium-priced computer...but Apple is still willing to sell them and hope we don't notice?). I finally got a refund, and while I don't want to defect to PCs (it would be a pain considering I work off of a MBP, too) - I was wondering if the 24" iMacs are a safer bet. Mac Connection is selling an awfully attractive one. After unboxing two lemons, I'm a little gun-shy.

I have been having really bad latency issues with WoW, and Blizzard posters don't help much. I'm having on/off latency issues, reaching up to 5000 ms. I have tried:
-Flushing the DNS.
-Deleting WoW temp flies (Cache etc.)
-Decreasing MTU(572 at one point).
-Moving WoW folder to a different user (admin).
-Power cycled modem/router
- Bought a new modem.
- Updated mac hardware (software update)
- Firewall configuring
I use a Linksys router to connect to the internet. 2 macs on the same internet can play RuneScape simultaneously without issue( latency persists even when I'm the only one on). The router/modem is only shared with my home.
Mac version 10.5.8 Leopard

I recently purchased a logitech performance MX and i'm somewhat reluctant to keep it because I have been getting bad latency issues with it. I purchased it on eBay and it stated that it did not come with the original rechargeable battery. The problem occurs when I leave the mouse alone for a few seconds and I go back to it, the cursor just stays there for 2-5 seconds then jumps on the screen. However, this problem does not occur when I have it plugged into the USB charger (basically acting as a wired mouse). What should I do? Do I return the mice on ebay? Do I use it wired? Do I get a new battery?

I resently updated my macbook pro to the latest software version of Lion (10.7.4). Ever sence then i have experiened a serious amount of latancy somewhere between my signal and my DAW (Pro Tools 10) that I can't get rid of! I have tried lower buffer size, turning on low latency monitoring and tried different audio interfaces. None of these options seems to make a difference. I also have the latest update of Pro Tools. I have also tried reinstall pro tools. No effect. I estimate the latency to be around 25-30ms.Â

I have an Airport Extreme router being used with my cable modem service. It seems like after about 12-18 hours of use the router slows to a crawl. The only way to fix the issue is to do a hard reset by pushing the reset button and reconfiguring it.
I'm using firmware version 7.4.1
Here is an example: Latency 10 minutes ago was 800+ ms, speeds were 2m/300k ... I just reset it the router, now latency is back down to 7ms and speeds are 14.2mb/2mb

After upgrading to Snow Leopard (SR MBP), I've experienced unusually high and unpredictable latency from the airport connection. The Ethernet connection works fine (consistent and short ping times to the wireless router), but the airport connection's ping times vary wildly. A different MBP (unibody) on Leopard does not have this problem with the same router (so it seems unlikely that the router is at fault), and I did not have this problem before my upgrading. Programs such as Skype that require a steady stream of information are now unusable. Does Archive and Install work for downgrades?

My 2010 15" MBP has constant Wifi dropouts, sometimes minutes at a time. Sometimes I have to reconnect. Yet it gets 4 bars. My MacBook never had these problems. It's generally slower, too. It's now useless for online video like Hulu. Anyone else seeing this? I wonder whether it's hardware (e.g. they moved the antenna, and/or because of the metal case) or software/drivers? I'm going to submit feedback after input from ya'll.

I have a pretty old Titanium Mac Book that runs OS 10.3.9. It's a moderately slow machine, but still works- and although I realize that it won't be able to stream video or anything, I figure it would work for email, and basic web browsing- But I'm wondering if it's going to be compatible with any new products such as a USB wifi antenna - because the room where I want to use it won't alow for an ethernet connection-  Also, will the old 10.3.9 OS allow me to connect wifi to the newer airport extreme base stations?Â

MacBook. 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. OS Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I'm running a 2006 MacBook with Snow Leopard. A few months back it started dropping wifi connection. Airport would show no connection but would list my network along with others in my building. If I tried to connect with my WPA password it would just time out. At this time I was running Leopard.
Since then I've done a few things.Tried running the Netgear router with no encryption at all (same thing happens). Will lose connection and then time out trying to connect
I've tried the MacBook in a coffee shop with wifi access and at my parents (same NetGear router) and at my new apartment with a horrible Orange Livebox.
Taken the MacBook in to see the genius bar at Glasgow Apple store. Worked fine for them, but I explained it was intermittent but we could not force it to fail. I'm sure if it ran for an hour it would.
At present if I have the MacBook in the living room (where the Livebox router is situated) its fine and wont drop connection. If I walk some 5m to my bedroom it will work for approximately half and hour and then lose it. A few days ago I bought the Snow Leopard upgrade and installed it last night. MacBook runs a hell of a lot faster (yay!) but moving it away from the router and its dead as disco in half an hour.
So to clarify, the MacBook has been tested on 4 wifi networks/ locus with same issue. iPhone, Xbox 360 and PS3 all have no issues with dropping connection no matter where they are in the apartment.
Apartment is a new build and its walls are not made out of lead or kryptonite. Is this a hardware issue rather than software? When updating to Snow Leopard it was an update to the existing OS of Leopard not a clean install.

I have an aluminum Macbook on a wireless network. My network is configured as follows: In the area covered by the AP, I have the Macbook and an old, busted PC. The PC works fine, and internet is as fast as if it was plugged in. The mac says it has full signal, but the internet speed varies greatly. This Macbook tends to show full bars even when the signal is weak, though. Sometimes it loads pages fast, sometimes, it takes almost a full minute to load pages. While I haven't tested it on many other networks, it appears to work fine elsewhere. Anyone have any idea what the problem is? It's almost as if the Macbook isn't connecting to the AP and is connecting straight to the main router which is far away. As I was typing this post, the Macbook completely lost wifi signal.

I have the original 1st generation Core Duo MacBook, and I'm having some trouble with the wifi. Often, when I go to a new location like to a library or a friend's house, I won't be able to connect to the wifi (it will timeout) or it will connect, but the signal strength will be very weak or the internet will be very slow.
It's not that it's out of range, I'm in an area that's known to have wifi and others around me can pick it up fine with full strength. At home, my wifi works fine, but the router is in the same room I use the computer in.

My Macbook Pro has been great since I got it last June. Recently I just did an software update that I believe included something with the wifi/airport setting. Now I cannot connect to ANYTHING. My work wifi network I can connect with my iPhone and others have connected to my "puck" wifi from CLEAR. I have ruled out that the connections I am trying to connect to are the problem. When I try to connect with my MBP I it tries and then gets greyed out in the top with the exclamation point. It says:Â
Alert: No Internet ConnectionÂ
When I have tried to "fix" using the normal processes when clicking on it it says it cannot help me. I have researched and cleared the network settings in the keychain access. There was another thing that said to delete the apps.apple.alf.pfile or something like that but when I went to the area in Library/Preferences that file didnt exist. I need my Macbook to access the Internet.Â
I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3Â It is a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
