View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm excited about the re-vamped MacBook Air, and am considering a 13" model. Much to my dismay, no illuminated keyboard anymore! I understand keeping certain options only for the Pro to encourage upgrading, but this one may be a deal-breaker.
Since the keys are the same style, would it be possible to take off all the keys, swap out the board underneath and replace it all with the backlit counterparts from the older MacBook Air? What all would be involved?
Can anyone tell me if they have upgraded from the previous 13" mbp to the one that was recently released. Is the battery much better and is the speed increase noticeable?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI see Apple has added a lower price refurb 3.06 previous generation (I've been waiting ) price $1599. Total with tax $1710.00 New 2.93 at Powermax no tax total $1788.00. What would you advise? What to do? New or old? If the 3.06 was a bit cheaper I would definitely go for that as I think it is better machine, but for so close a price is it better get new?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am brand new to this site. When i swipe four fingers down on the trackpad to show everything I have open it doesn't work. When I try to swipe four fingers up to get to my desktop it doesn't work. When I try to go back a page in safari by swiping three fingers to the left it wont go back. But when I use two fingers to scroll up and down pages that works just fine. I haven't taken it to an apple store due to I am stuck at college and there isn't one around.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this a known issue or just me but I found this morning that two finger scrolling upwards doesn't work on my MBA when I am browsing in Google Chrome. I observed it works in other apps including Safari. Thought of taking it to the Genius Bar then gave up because of the hassle of going through the replacement as I already put in full body zagg on my MBA.

The one I tried first, and it worked, was to create a new user account and switch to it. The gestures worked fine in that account so I tried my original account again and all was good. I deleted the new account and things are still back to normal so far.

I have tried shutting down the application, rebooting but nothing seems to work. Whenever this occurs I am still able to scroll fine in pages and safari but the preview app and xcode have been problematic for me.

Out of nowhere, my Magic Mouse doesn't seem to recognize left and right 2-finger swipes (forward/back in browser and I've also used Better Touch Tool to make it change songs in iTunes). The only change I've made was to install the drivers for a Digidesign MBox 2 (audio/MIDI interface for recording). I checked my mouse preferences, and the box for the 2-finger swipe is checked. I've turned the mouse off and back on, restarted BTT, restarted the computer, and pretty much everything else I can think of. Does anyone have any ideas, or has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there any chance the MBox could have some effect on this?

If nobody is knows directly how to accomplish this I'd also be interested in knowing what libraries the handlers may reside in so I can poke around and try and do it myself.
I'm also interested in trying to find a way to make 3 finger tap do a middle click. Or something along those lines.
Anybody have the 12WX working correctly with lion with no previous wacom installed? hooked it up right away with no problems on a leopard mac pro. had working windows xp on virtual machine no problems.with imac lion, would not run the install drivers from disk (PPC). so installed the latest 6.2 driver and a bamboo intuos 3 driver as recomended by wacom. installed driver for pen. the bamboo driver worked for a day or so ( with no option keys working), but had 4 point calibration unlike the two point from leopard install.now, neither are recognizing a tablet connection, only works as monitor. uninstalled. tried an older driver 6.15. ran fix disk permissions, reset pram. restarted(+++). dis and re connected. reinstalled again and again. still no luck getting it running on a new mid 2011 imac with lion.

So I have been having an issue with my MBP 13" since I bought it, about a month now. At first the guy at Bes@ Bu@ attributed it to the fact that I was pressing too hard on the trackpad and sent me on my way. Two weeks later and the same issue is still happening. So I return to the store and they take the drag lock off, which I have tried before and I tell them this is not the problem-I am not an idiot-I actually know a little about computers. Oh well so here it is another two weeks and the same issue is still going. What do I do? A little background-I need a computer to be able to work on-this is not an option.
Best Buy said that if there is something truly wrong with the trackpad then they will have to send it off to "somewhere" and it could be gone for 10-14 days. That is just unacceptable. Is anybody familiar with their "Black Tie" protection plan? would it be easier/better just to run the thing over with my truck? instead of dealing with the headaches of shipping it somewhere? Basically it seems like the mouse is dragging and locking on everything it can. I have to hold and move, or double hold and move, its hard to explain, but there is definitely an issue. But since I mainly work nights, its hard to bring it up to BB when there is an issue.
On my MacBook Po I really like the (new) giant trackpad it always worked perfect until a while ago. Sometimes when I want to drag some files around it doesn't register I'm holding the trackpad down and it won't drag the file. Or it drags the file for a few pixels and release it by itself into the wrong folder. I have the same problem sometimes when I want to select some text, it only selects a piece of the text. Even if I work in Photoshop it doesn't always work great.

This is on the new 2010 MBPs. This may also be the behavior with prior MBPs as well though. When I drag something, window or icon, and release my finger from the trackpad to set it in place, if my finger promptly touches down on the trackpad again so I can proceed with other tasks, the dragged object actually remains in focus and continues being dragged. I found that I have to artificially force myself to wait roughly a full second before I could resume contact with the trackpad without continuing the object-drag. Is there any way to configure this differently, either within OSX or with a freeware program?

I know that there are topics asking what is going to be in the next Mac upgrade all the time, but what I wanted to ask you is more about Steve's "The next generation of MacBooks" quote.
It seems that the Back to the Mac philosophy will not apply just to the Air but will go further on the other laptops series.
I definetely see the HDD disappear from the next gen of MacBooks to give space to the SSD cards.
So far all the MacBook can get up to 500GB HDD and the Pros have also the option up to 512GB SDD.
However even if this is quite predictable I would like to know your opinion on another matter: DVDs.
Will Apple gamble on removing the DVD drive or this could be too early?
Here's a comparison of an upconverted dvd on a 7 inch screen, versus a blu ray on a 7 inch screen. The 15" HP Envy laptop, which is basically identical to the Macbook Pro in terms of dimensions, design and power consumption, opts to use the i5 processor, 1920x1080 resolution and a blu ray drive alongside a 1GB ATI 5830 GPU in the high end models. So the next MBP using a weaker GPU than basically a MBP knock off already offers would make the MBP seem poorly planned out and poorly designed.
