MacBook Air :: Second Generation - Price Cuts?

Oct 12, 2008

I'm really interested in MB Air but it's little bit expensive toy for me. Do you think there are any chances for a price cut (after releasing the second generation)?

MacBook Pro :: Expected Price Movement With New Hardware?

Mar 22, 2010

I've been lurking on these forums for a few weeks now as it's time for me to come back to Mac. I've been a PC gamer for a long time, but used a Mac when I was a journalist. I want to start writing again and was considering a netbook, then realized the Mac is what I want again.

Question: I have researched several forums, rumours and checked the 'don't buy now' page for buying recommendations. However, my real question is regarding typical pricing when the "new hotness" is released. Is it typical for the price of the new models to be higher than the current pricing? If I go out and buy a MacBook Pro next week, I don't mind if it turns out that I could have saved a hundred bucks or two when they start clearing out the "old" models in refurbs, but I don't want it to end up that I could have waited a week and paid the same price for a lot more....................

MacBook Air :: Need Thin And Light SSD Drive At Premium Price?

Dec 5, 2008

I shudder to think that we might be getting a bargain from apple, is that possible, or is this ssd: SuperTalent 60GB SSD (Microsata II, 1.8'')
FUD60GK18H

Which costs around 900 euros mind you not dollars, with less than half the capacity, is so much better in terms of performance than the one in the air? Also what's with the specification of a 1.8 ssd drive, are they produced in the same volumes as 2.5" ones? Are they aimed at air type products, i.e. thin and light but come at a premium price?

MacBook Pro :: It Cuts Out Randomly

Apr 2, 2012

my macbook pro has started to just cut out randomly. I have had this with an expanding battery and haven't had the money to replace it yet, but I don't know if this is part of the issue. When my computer cuts out, it is as though the power cable has been pulled out and the whole system just shuts off in an instant. I know that the power cable has definitely not come out, though.

Hardware :: New Printer At A Low Price?

Feb 3, 2006

I need a new printer ASAP, but "She Who Must Be Obeyed" (the wife) says I can't spend more than 150 EURO / 175 USD / 100 Sterling.

Can anyone recommend a decent USB colour printer that will cope with simple print jobs (e.g. letters) within this price range? I don't need to print off high quality photos.

MacBook Pro :: Display Constantly Cuts Out?

May 27, 2012

the display's started cutting off unexpectedly. It started a few months ago with random restarts, which I thought were caused by a bad hard drive, but it turns out permissions errors, stacked up over the years, really can bork your computer. I replaced the hard drive (didn't mind opening her up, since she's well out of warranty), but the problem kept occuring - only with the screen going dark randomly. I thought the new hard drive was dying, too. But here's how it's been going down lately. About twice a day, the screen will go black. Not just the backlight; it's as though the display has been turned off. I can't wake it from the display sleep, but it's not for lack of hitting the space bar repeatedly. Keyboard backlight stays on for a second, and then goes dark, at which point, I'll force a shutdown and try to restart. All of which is messing with my data; I've been doing a permissions repair pretty much daily now, and there's loads of 'em to repair. I noticed today, when it happened earlier, that my hard drive is still spinning, and USB peripherals retain their power. So what is causing my display to cut out like this, and how do I keep it from happening again (at least this frequently) until I can afford a new MacBook?

Audio On My Macbook Pro Cuts Out After A Few Minutes

Jun 3, 2012

The audio on my macbook pro cuts out after a few minutes. It sounds like all the low end is removed. I still hear audio but it is MUCH lower and sounds filtered. I can barely hear it maxed out. Nothing attached (no external drives, no speakers, etc) and it's only a few days old.

IMac :: Where To Sell At Reasonable Price?

Jul 23, 2009

I hope this is ok to post in here, because unfortunately i'm short of the post count required for the marketplace. I was wondering where would be a good place to advertise a late-2007 alu iMac? I'm trying to avoid eBay at the moment because i'll end up losing a fair amount of money in eBay and then Paypal fees. Also, is 650 an ok asking price? It's a 20" 2.0GHz C2D, 250GB HDD, 3G RAM.

MacBook :: Mini Display To HDMI Cuts Out After 20 Min?

Dec 28, 2010

I've connected my Macbook to my Samsung TV via HDMI and it works great!

I've been using the TV for it's speakers and screensaver so I'd like to be able to put on iTunes and have my slideshow play on the TV while I have guests over.

It works great, but if I don't touch the macbook for 20 minutes, the signal to the TV cuts out. The Macbook isn't going to sleep, because I've adjusted those settings accordingly. I feel like the TV is stopping the connection for some reason. As soon as I touch my macbook, it resumes playing and everything.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Start, HDD Spins For 5 Seconds Then Cuts Off?

Feb 18, 2010

I am trying to repair a macbook pro for a friend, I think it's the logic board, but I wanted to check with you all before I go buy one. When the battery is fully charged, I press the power button, I hear the hard drive spin for about 5 seconds then stop. The superdrive on it is broken so I can't try the restore disk. I ordered Pram, I am going to replace that. I tried two different hard drives and I know they are both good, I tried them in the macbook and through a usb port, and the same thing happened both times.

MacBook Pro :: AirPort Signals Cuts Off After Every 30 Minutes

May 11, 2010

I have a fairly new 17" Unibody MacBook Pro, and recently my AirPort signal cuts off after about 30 minutes. I could just be on Facebook, and I will loose the signal after 30 minutes, and then I got to reselect my network. It becomes very annoying if when I try uploading videos to YouTube, having to start uploading all over about 3 times. I took it to the Genius Bar on Saturday, and they couldn't diagnose the problem, and they said they have to send it out to depot, but i can't afford being without my machine till June. I've tried restoring the default settings on my AirPort base station, but that didn't effect the problem. Could there be a problem with the AirPort card in my machine?

MacBook Pro :: WiFi Cuts Out Sporadically And Frequently

Jun 23, 2012

in the last week or so I've begun having a problem with the WiFi connection on my MBP. While using the Internet, web pages will no longer load, my mail client can't connect to the mail server, etc. When I use the terminal to ping Google or any other site, I get the message that the server can't be found. In the menu bar, the WiFi icon indicates a strong connection, but when I open Network Preferences, it says that WiFi is off. When I click, "Turn WiFi on," the menu bar icon goes to the empty fan icon but WiFi refuses to turn back on again. The only thing that I've found to work is to restart, and once or twice now that hasn't worked either.

One other thing I noticed was that this last week Network Preferences had identified my fitbit tracker USB syncing dongle as a network device and had added it to the list of devices on the left side of the preferences pane. This happened after I had already begun to have problems, and after I deleted the syncing dongle from the list, WiFi came back up again with no problem. This is a MBP with a 2.7 GHz i7, eight GB of RAM, running 10.7.4.Can you offer any solutions or suggestions for further troubleshooting?

MacBook Pro :: Next Generation Of MacBooks?

Oct 23, 2010

I know that there are topics asking what is going to be in the next Mac upgrade all the time, but what I wanted to ask you is more about Steve's "The next generation of MacBooks" quote.

It seems that the Back to the Mac philosophy will not apply just to the Air but will go further on the other laptops series.

I definetely see the HDD disappear from the next gen of MacBooks to give space to the SSD cards.

So far all the MacBook can get up to 500GB HDD and the Pros have also the option up to 512GB SDD.

However even if this is quite predictable I would like to know your opinion on another matter: DVDs.

Will Apple gamble on removing the DVD drive or this could be too early?

MacBook Pro :: Why Next Generation Should Use ATI 5830 GPU

Feb 18, 2010

Here's a comparison of an upconverted dvd on a 7 inch screen, versus a blu ray on a 7 inch screen. The 15" HP Envy laptop, which is basically identical to the Macbook Pro in terms of dimensions, design and power consumption, opts to use the i5 processor, 1920x1080 resolution and a blu ray drive alongside a 1GB ATI 5830 GPU in the high end models. So the next MBP using a weaker GPU than basically a MBP knock off already offers would make the MBP seem poorly planned out and poorly designed.

Since updating to 10.6.2 my wireless signal will stop working after about five minutes, the only fix is to turn off my wireless connection then back on again and its fine.
