May 10, 2007So I have a network running a Linksys B&G WRT54G router on a ComCast Cable internet connection. I have an iBook G4 (2005) and a B/W G3/400 connected to it. The iBook is using the built-in Airport Extreme and the G3 is using a valid Belkin PCI card (model: FD57000) 802.11G card. So the G3 is just chillin' downloading torrents and what not, but I noticed the speeds aren't that great and my iBook is slowed waaay down on just basic web browsing. I reboot the G3 and all of a sudden the iBook speeds way up. Once the G3 is back online everything is slow again. I've tried many settings and still am not satisfied yet (using the iBook on the same torrents as the G3 the speeds are insanely higher).

May 28, 2012My wireless network is connected to my iMac but the internet goes down a lot and I have to reset the wifi up in the menu bar. It doesn't lose bars at all or say its disconnected. My wireless printer always works just fine. None of the other computers in my house have this problem.

Apr 23, 2012I recently moved and am connecting my iMac (2006 Intel) via the internal Airport card to a high-speed cable network here at home.
For some reason, my connection started off fine but after a few hours (sometime minutes) of browsing the web, the connection will slow to a crawl or just stop completly.
I've tried changing the DNS settings, turning Airport off/on, re-booting the wireless router (it's a Netgear) all to no avail.
The connection will seem to be okay and then...back to the molasses slow or no connection at all. At my previous residence, I was connecting the same way without any issues.
As an aside, there are 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and a MacBook Air all connecting to the same network without any issues whatsoever.

Dec 31, 2010I have Alltel Mobile Broadband. Up until the other day, it's been working fine. I'd set up a network on my macbook after connecting to the Alltel network, then I'd enable internet sharing. Then my iPod Touch, iPad, etc would all be able to go online.
The past couple days, however, the connection just won't share.Anyone have any idea what could be doing this and how to fix it?

Sep 8, 2014I have a macbook pro that is running Mac OS X Lion. Recently, however, it stopped being able to connect to the internet through my home wireless network. Nothing changed about my macbook or my network/modem/router. Other devices in the house (PC, iphones) are able to connect to the internet via my wireless network, but not my macbook (and, incidentally, neither can my ipad now). If I take my macbook to any other wireless network (coffee shops etc.) it connects to the wireless and I can access the internet without problem. I have tried the online apple chat support feature, we tried a few things (can't remember what exactly) and have also had my internet service provider reset my modem. Nothing has worked.
I've tried various interventions suggested on some message boards here (restarting, resetting modem, deleting and reselecting airport etc.) and nothing has seemed to work. Running network diagnostics comes up with nothing, and it states that there is nothing wrong with the wireless connection or the internet. This is very frustrating, because I can't take it into an apple store (it will most definitely work on their wireless) and it doesn't appear to be related to my ISP (because of the other devices that are able to access the internet). There is something wrong with the communication between MY wireless network and the internet on my macbook.

Jun 24, 2012I have a weird problem when i try to connect to the internet with my MBP. I run on Lion (10.7.4) and it the problem appeared a few days ago, internet was working before. So here's the deal : Airport is working fine, and when I check my network settings and ask for a diagnostic, the assistant tells me i AM connected to the internet and claims it works alright. But when I open Safari or Chrome, I can't go on any site, because each time it says the operation timed out. My family has others computers connected to the same modem and they all have a working connection.
I tried entering manually the address to check if it was a simple DNS problem but it isn't. I tried restarting the modem and my computer, turning Airport on and off, deleting all the network datas my computer had saved to set up this network as a new one, adding a new location, renewing the DHCP lease.

Jan 5, 2011I have just got my 1Tb time capsule and there are a lot of confusing descriptions of how to connect it.
At the moment I have just selected "join existing wireless network" which is a ADSL 2.4ghz G Router that came with my internet package (Thompson TG585 v7).
Does this mean that all traffic goes via the ADSL Router and that I will not be using the 5ghz band when I back up so that all the data will follow a path like this and have slow data rates? :
MAC --2.4ghz--> ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> TC
or will I be communicating directly with the TC at 5ghz for backups and data transfer and 2.4ghz with the ADSL router for internet like this? :
MAC --5ghz--> TC
ADSL Router --2.4ghz--> MAC
If this is not a good setup, what setup would allow me to get the full speed to the time capsule and be connected to the internet.

May 14, 2009I'm working in a home/home-office environment right now which was setup by someone else and I've noticed some odd network behavior when moving about the property. Looking at the setup, the relevant portion is: Cable modem - Airport Extreme - 10 port wired switch - 3x Airport Express in different areas of the house. The configuration of each device has the Extreme and all three Express devices set to "create a wireless network" with the network name the same for all four of them. I am not a networking expert but I would have thought that the Extreme should be set to be the "master" in a WDS network and the Express should each be set to participate in that WDS network. If they're all hosting their own wireless network with the same name and the coverage overlaps, how does a PC know which one it's using? Or maybe this doesn't matter. I just know that when we move from one room to another we frequently have to re-select the wireless network to establish connectivity.

I back-up my wife's MacBook via Time Machine to an external hard drive that is connected to my Apple desktop. It works great! I even have her system setup to automatically mount the drive upon log-in. Unfortunately, after leaving our wireless signal and then coming back the time machine drive isn't automatically mounted since she isn't "logging back-in". Jun 3, 2012So recently I got a new Macbook Pro. It works great, but as soon as it connects to the wireless internet in our house, my husbands hp computer will have horrible connection. Same for my husbands xbox 360. If he trys to play Modern Warfare 3 or any online game on his360 while Im is connected to the internet, he will have one bar ofI connection and the game will be unplayable. Same if he trys and play diablo 3 on my laptop. Went from 90-110 msec to over 2500+ once connected.
I know absolutely nothing about macs, so there isnt much I can do there. Have tried connecting with ethernet cords and same thing occurs. Just to be warned I am not super tech savvy, so please explain any ideas to your best abilities.

Mar 28, 2012I just got a Mac Mini no too long ago and while moving to my new apartment, my wireless router had a tragic accident and is no longer with me. So I thought "hey, I will just use my Mac Mini to broadcast a wifi signal so my other devices can connect to it." So I spent the morning setting up the internet sharing in the Mac Mini system preferences. Got my Dell Studio 1555 to connect with no issues. But my roommates acer notebook won't pick up the wifi signal at all. Checked it on both of our smart phones (both are android models), my nook, and even my ipod touch. It is only showing up on the dell for some reason. I was wondering if anyone else has encoutered this issue before Mac mini is currently set up with 128bit wep with a 13 character password.
