Hardware :: SDHC Express Card 34 - Get 24 In 1 Reader / Simple One?
Jan 26, 2009
Over the last month or so I have been creating much more digital data while on the go and I am looking into a Express Card 34 card reader. The only requirement I have of it is that it is able to read SDHC cards. Would it be better to get something like a 24 in 1 reader that works with SDHC or one that is simpler (and cheaper)? Anyone using a SDHC Express Card 34? Which one?

Anyone have good luck with a specific card reader? Or are they all in general going to work?

I really need to get hold of an Expresscard 34 - SDHC Card Reader for my MacBook Pro 15" late 2008. My Mid 2009 MBP has it all built in which is great. I have had a look on the net and they seem scarce. All of my SD cards are over 2GB in size, mostly 8GB so I need it to support SDHC. I would also love it to fit flush with the MBP and maybe be grey in colour! Please can someone help and let me know what model to 'google'

I would think the answer would be yes, but all the info I find on Apple's website and the search results I browsed through on the formums only mention SD cards. No mention of SDHC. My old computer only read regular SD cards, which was a real bummer. I have a SDHC card for my camera, and am hoping the new Macbook Pro I'm going to buy can read the cards.

For some reason it seems that my macbook pro isn't reading the SDHC card in my multi (10-in-1) stratitec USB2CR8 reader. I can't seem to find info on whether or not it is the reader and it can't read SDHC or the 4GB card size, or if the issue is with my computer. Anybody got any ideas, and if necessary I'll go and buy a new memory card reader if that is the issue.

If i insert an SD card in the slot ,the SD does not appear as mounted disk on the desktop. Nothing. I tryied three different SD Cards. Only Express card adapter is recognized by Mac,there is a small icon in the bar.

I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ4 that I use for both pictures and video. I have a 1 gb SDHC card that has worked fine connecting to my Macbook (last white middle model, late 2008) via my generic 23 in one card reader. However, today I purchased a HP 16 gb SDHC card and it won't read on the Macbook at all. My camera uses it and acts as normal, but the drive won't even show on my Mac.
I attempted to use the card reader in Windows XP Pro via Parallels, and the same thing happened. In fact, I got an error stating that the USB device had malfunctioned. The card reader IS old. Maybe it's having trouble with the higher capacity? I'm going to try the cable that came with my camera, when I can find it. I may need to try a new card reader as well?

Now that these are coming down in price, is anyone using them to exclusively back up with time machine? I'm thinking it will be a lot quicker to backup too, with the MBA being SSD. I've seen a 32GB USB stick for 20. Would USB or a SDHC card be quicker?

I have some footage (avchd ) on my SD card. I've read that iMovie 09 should import this direct from the card when inserted in my MBP. But, it always defaults to the isight camera and i cant select any other camera type from the check box in the bottom left of the menu? Can anyone please assist?

I've got an 8GB PNY Optima SDHC memory card. My computer would read it fine until up to a couple days ago. The camera that I use the card in can still read it, and all my files are (were) still there, so I'm inclined to believe that the problem is with the computer. I'm completely clueless when it comes to using Macs though, just recently made the switch over. Would anybody be so kind as to give me a hand here? I've tried reformatting the card in my camera, but that didn't change anything.

I simply can't take any of my pictures off of my SD card. I've tried using the USB cable that came with the camera itself, as well as a USB card reader. iPhoto, and the laptop itself does not recognize the card, or that there is any device mounted at all. I've also tried checking "External Disks" in Finder Preferences, didn't seem to work.

Since I use my machine a lot for photo work, this new feature on the refresh was nice. Question is does anyone know if it's easy to swap the card reader out of the 2009's for the new SDHC reader?

I've had a pleasant experience with my imac so far, and it read my SD card fine at first. For some reason I put my SD in the SD card reader and copied the pictures from it. I take it out and put it back in my camera. "The SD card cannot be formatted. It may be defective." Really? I put it back in my iMac. It doesn't mount. I check Finder and Disk Utility. Ya, it's nowhere. I put my other SD card in my iMac. Same issue. Now my camera won't read that one either. I put them in my sister's $300 netbook running Windows 7 Starter. Funny! It reads them! However, my camera still doesn't and my imac still doesn't. I try formatting them. No go. I've tried every format I can. They are just dead. Useless. My sister's computer can read them, and even format them, but something in that stupid iMac made my SD cards defective. I can buy new ones, but should I have to? I can't even see if they'll work through the camera while connected via USB because the camera won't even read them. I bought a Mac to avoid ridiculous problems like this. Was I wrong? Is it just a ticking time bomb like every other computer on the market? Should I immediately go buy a backup drive? If it's doing crazy stuff like this out of the blue, how can I trust it not to randomly crash? I think I overestimated Apple's competence. This should never happen. It actually made my SD cards defective.

Two questions, wondering if anyone knows the answer:1.Looking for maximum bandwidth of ExpressCard/34 slot in MacBook Pro(Since eSATA raid is supported with ExpressCard, the bandwidth should be there. Looks like it has at least 70MB read/write?)2. Are there ExpressCard/34 SSD disks that runs faster than internal SATA drives? (Mtron seems to make only 2.5" and 3.5")

Just realized that all the firewire ports on my 8-Core Mac Pro share the same bus. I need to capture video from a HDV camera to a firewire hard drives and I get hickups and slow downs that cause dropped frames. Can anybody share any links to what FW card to get to and where I can buy it from? Anything that does not cost to much? Please only post links of cards you have used or read good reviews using it on a Mac Pro. Also what slot would I put the card in? I want to make sure the slot is not also sharing a bus with something else.

I have a AMICROE 42-in-1 USB 2.0 Card Reader that I use to transfer pictures from my camera's memory stick (SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo 1.0 GB) to my mac. It always works but the last few times I have tried to use it it wont show up in iPhoto or anywhere else. I looked in disk utillity (which I think is the right place to look) but it is nowhere on my computer. What is wrong, what do I do? I also don't want to spend any money buying a new one or getting it fixed if it has a problem, but it is working coz the little blue light is coming on.
It has many different ports for different memory sticks and it works with some other cameras in different ports, I can't work out why it is doing this!

As the title says, I have a card reader that works great with a CF card, but the MBP won't recognize an SD card. This is a new problem for me. I also have an express card adapter for SD that won't read the card, either. I have tried 4 different SD cards, and these exact cards have worked for me in the recent past (within the past 2 months). They work fine in the camera. I also tried connecting the camera via usb, which was unsuccessful. I tried blowing air on the cards and the reader. I cannot get the cards to be read on my wife's macbook. This makes no sense to me, as it worked fine the last time I tried. I find it hard to believe that all cards are corrupt, or the cable is the problem because it reads the CF card.

I have a USB all in one card reader that doesn't seem to work when I connect it to my Macbook. It's an aluminium Macbook running snow leopard.
Ordinarily I would suspect that my 2.99 card reader is faulty and just buy a new one...however I also have an iMac, and it works perfectly with that.
Any ideas on what's wrong with my Macbook??
