MacBook Pro :: Procedure To Keep Clean It Once A Week?
Feb 11, 2012
In the apple store they told me that i had do something to my mac to keep it clean and free from bad stuff at least once a week. This was not a program they had installed but it was already on the mac. I have a mac book pro 13'.
Now normally I wouldn't expect it in an under 4 year old machine, but the normal battery is working as expected. However, when I'm not plugged into power, my WiFi doesn't always reconnect, and when it does, the internet doesn't seem to connect either 90% of the time. When I'm plugged into power, no problem. 3 other machines on the same wireless network have no issues with it, though my cable company says they are detecting intermittent signal loss, which I can't reproduce on any other machine. The other reason I believe it is the PRAM battery and not the main battery, is during one reboot, the date reset itself to year 2000. Once I managed to reconnect the internet, I was able to set the date & time to the time server.

My iCal seems to be stuck in a certain week. Something happened several weeks ago where whenever I open iCal, the current date shows up, but then quickly jumps backwards to a previous date several weeks ago. I have tried resetting sync services, prefs, deleting everything (events and to-dos) from the week it keeps reverting to, but no luck.
I am trying to install a web cam and i am not sure how to do it. When i plug in the usb i do see it listed as a usb device but it will not work with skype etc. I have tried this on my macbook pro and a macbook G4. Do i need to install a driver for it perhaps? if so how would i do this?
On any desktop I'm using (mission control) when I place my mouse cursor in the middle of my desktop, a window appears with random days of the week. The following screen shots did not capture the cursor, but it was just below and to the right of the cursors position on the desktop.
How do I get the Calendar to repeat an event just one day a week? It always wants to repeat across all days and all weeks, not just the one day each week I want.
I'm continually upgrading my drives to larger drives. While in the time being that is fine, but my disk space usage is also increasing. Rather than replacing my 2TB drives in a year for 4TB drives (or whatever size they may be), I'd love to add more drives.
Right now I have my 'backup' drives in an 8-bay SansDigital eSATA cage. This is fine for backups, but for simplicity and drive speed sake, I'd love to just add more drives to my machine. I'm using up all 5 available SATA ports on my 2010 MP. I don't use the Optical drive much, so got to thinking: what about putting my optical drive into an external firewire/USB housing and plug it in when I need to use it. This would free up one extra drive port, which would suffice for the next 2 years or so.
So, are they are good external casing's that will allow me to use my current MP SATA optical drive? Is this method bootable, what pitfalls might I run into?
A couple of years ago I purchased an iMac c2d 24" BTO with upgraded Graphics (7600 256mb), 2 GB of memory and a 500 GB hard drive. This has failed three times and Apple have decided to replace it with a new iMac 24 2.93GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 256MB memory etc .
I have to send my old unit back first then they will send out the new machine.
My question is how do I follow the machine trail? I have yet to receive a call to arrange pick up of my old machine and I've checked on Apples web site under my account and can see nothing about the new machine.
Can any one who as been down this road especially in the UK enlighten me as to what happens and how to view things.
Ever since SL was installed, Time Machine restores pop3 emails into my inbox. So, about twice a week I get about 300 emails restored, emails that I do NOT want. They have been filed away, replied to. What makes it difficult is that I have to trawl through what was restored and what was not read/replied to/filed away.
As a test, I turned off Time Machine for 2 weeks, problem solved. Obviously, I don't want TM turned off.
I then deleted my pop3 email accounts and re-created them with different names. Problem re-appeared. Apple do not have a solution, I tried.
I have 4 pop3 accounts and 2 .me accounts. The .me accounts are not affected, only the pop3 ones.
I need to replace the power supply in my Mac Pro (2008) but I'm stuck at getting the small cover off. I've removed the metal plate that was under the optical drives (POV when looking through the side).
But it seems there's a small cover for the power supply that's similar to the big processor cover for the liquid cooled G5 towers. I can't figure out how to remove that.
Does anyone have a link to a manual or take-apart guide for the Mac Pro?
So it looks like I'm going to have to reinstall Mac OSX on my IBook but before I do I would like to back up the majority of the files and applications I have installed over the years.. Is it possible to do this if the .dmg and .iso files, etc. are long gone? If it is what's the best solution?
How common is this? I prefer darker backgrounds and this may be an issue.I'm over the yellow and the buzzing, but this too? Don't take me the wrong way - I love my Macs but I can't say I'm crazy about this..See attachment. Ignore the image noise, the big spot that bothers me is on the top to the right.
Applets simply dont load. Ive enabled scripts and plug-ins and Java in preferences. I've rearranged the version priorities a dozen different ways as well, no luck.
On my new MBP I fired and set-up the system, and SL was already installed. I followed the procedure of cloning my Leopard HD on to a local back-up drive, using CCC, plugged it in to the MBP and booted from the clone. It has booted up without any noticeable issues but when I go to open Disk Utility, or any other program on the cloned disk, I get the '...application X quit unexpectedly' dialogue box
There is a commercial version of the entire downloaded offline Wikipedia for mobile phone OS's called WikiPock available preloaded on an 8Gb Micro SD card
However, I realize Wikipedia is always available in a current version for download. What I'm looking for is a procedure to download it in a readable format onto an SD card myself. I would prefer to have it cross-platform so it could be read on either Win XP or OSX.
Does anyone know of an application to do this or a link to a detailed written procedure?
My Apple Wireless Keyboard Stopped Working, i don't know what problem it is. its just stop, after i leave it one week without battery. this keyboard just 2 months old, any suggestion so i can get it repaired...?, is it possible to bring keyboard to apple retailer, and get it fixed there ?
After hours of research, I'm finally making a thread about this. It's very simpleI know you can sync Google Calendars(GC) with iCal, so anything you change on your GC will sync to iCal, but I need a way to do the opposite. iCal››Google Calendar.
I know there is a $60 service that does this, but there must be a free way! I've had no luck searching Google for answers... Why I want to sync with GC is because I want my family to be able to see my calendars, but I don't like using GC, I much rather enjoy using iCal. Much nicer user interface; unlike Google which is very bland. (As is Google's way) Anyone able to help me out?
My 500GB external hard drive (Hitachi DeskStar) crashed! The blue light comes on, and I can hear the hard drive spinning, then sounds like it's stuck, or clicking ...
Same thing happens to the internal HD on my iBook G4. Sometimes the internal HD works, sometimes not.
I desparately need to find someway to attempt to either fix the external 500GB HD, or recover the files. The 500GB was my main HD, and I have so much very important data that I need to recover (no backups!).
I have years of research (lots of family history), thousands of pictures (many very old), my personal journals that I've been keeping for years, personal information, letters, documents, family videos, and all of my e-mail.
Somebody was telling me that there is special software that will recognize the HD, and allow you to recover the files.
What would you recommend? At the present I have no money to do anything, but will save up for the recovery software. My uncle is getting me a new hard drive, so I'll have that to back up the files when I have the recovery software ...
How do I create a mailing list (group) of colleagues to whom I send a common email every week? I've tried Help topics in Mail and on th apple site, to no avail.
I have an iMac that is rapidly filling up. I would like to move my iTunes and iPhoto library to my external harddrive (I currently use for Time Machine). Is this possible or even adviseable? If I were to do this, what would I need to do. Is it as simple as moving the folders that hold these files on to the external. Would the programs find them.
Earlier tonight I opened iCal, only to find that none of my calendars were there. it was completely empty. However, when I changed the view from "Week" to "Month" all of my events were listed (in the proper color) on the appropriate day, but I still had no list of calendars on the left. Subsequent changes between "Day" "Week" and "Month" view continued to display the events properly, but nothing showed up in the calendar menu on the left.
I repaired permissions same thing happened.I trashed com.apple.ical pref (forgot the exact filename)same behavior. I use .mac to sync between computers, and I use Missing Sync to sync to a Palm T|X.
