View 1 RepliesI recently RE-Imaged my MacBook Air because of other software issues. Well that fixed those problems, now I am having other problems! When I plug a Pendrive, or my External HD into the MBA it doesn't appear on the desktop but it does show up in the Finder Window.

I have a Mac Pro that recently started doing the strangest thing. when you go to power it on, it just clicks. If you unplug the USB keyboard, mouse, and cable going to the usb hub built-in to the monitor, then start it up, it starts up normally.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEver since i logged out and back in again nothing is appearing on my desktop. I can only see my background. Not even the silver bar at the top is visible, it's really worrying me! The only way i've managed to get onto safari to write this is because i pressed the play button on my keyboard which opened up itunes, which is when the silver bar appeared and i just went and clicked on the apple logo in the top far left corner and clicked recent items, and luckily one of them was safari. But if i quite safari the silver bar at the top will disappear and i won't be able to do anything.

I'm running Mac OS 10.5.5 on a Intel Mac Pro and seeing this strange problem that has me stumped. At regular intervals, the OS is creating locked folders that have strange names that look like hex (E6A8F15A-9BD5-45CC-A54A-EBD6E25C5053-228-00007DE458ADF42D is a folder name on one of them currently) on the desktop. These folders appear to be copies of a DVD burn folder that I had created and then deleted after burning the DVD. In fact, the original files in that burn folder have also been deleted after burning and no longer exist on any disk.
If the computer is running for a few hours, there are tons of these folders created on the desktop. I can drag them into the trash bin if I click ok to the message that says these are locked folders. Then I can empty the trash bin if I click option and they are deleted from the trash bin. Meanwhile more are created on my desktop!Anyone seen anything like this or have some pointers? I've checked permission on the boot disk using Disk Utility and it found nothing wrong. I have also deleted the Finder plists in ~/Library/Preferences. Anything else I can do? I've been trying to figure out what process is creating these folders but no luck. I suspect it could be the Finder since it was a burn folder, but don't know where to look to diagnose and fix this annoyance.
The only disk appearing is the start-up. I have four others that are not appearing.

I must have changed a setting but can't figure out what I did to cause it.

My .mac mail is no longer appearing in the desktop mail app. Cannot send or receive and folders have disappeared. Have not changed anything that I am aware of. My other account is fine. .mac mail comes in fine on iphone and ipad. When using my laptop I can get to it and send from the icould site. What would have caused this/how can I get it back? It is still listed as an account in mail preferences.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am helping a friend out with her mac. She by accidentally removed her desktop icon under devices and needs to get it back. The best way for me to elaborate is to explain, you know when you are in a program...and you want to open a document on your desktop, so you use that programs open function and you look on the left for your desktop icon which falls under Devices at the top left...well that desktop icon is missing.
I tried searching for devices folder on the mac but was unable to find it, I was just going to drag a desktop shortcut into this folder...
I use a Western Digital Passport as my external drive. When I link the USB I get no icon on my desktop and the device is not recognised unless I activate the WD Smartware to unlock it. That's not a lot of use when I want to download some files from a computer (like my wifes's) (also an iMac) which doesn't have the Smartware installed. why my desktop won't register the drive and why my wife's computer won't recognise the thing at all?

I use my MBP 15" (the new one), as my primary machine in my office. I sit by my best usually 10-12hrs a day working on it.
I am trying to figure out what is best to do, keep the AC plugged in or have it un-plugged and only plug it in when the battery is drained (or less then 50%)? I have tried different experiments, plugged in, not-plugged and time is about the same for life of the battery. The true question is, how is is best to do it for the health of the battery.
As the title states: How do I make external devices connected to my Mac appear on my desktop?
Cos the thing is that my Mac's hard drive got corrupted for whatever reason I don't know so I had to re-install my OS (Lion). Now the thing is that unlike before if I connected my phone, flash drive or wanted to install a new applicatiion it would appear on my desktop as an icon, now it doesn't.

I have Virtual PC for Mac (version 7.0.2) and I'm running the home edition of Windows XP on it. I also have the Mac G5 (OS 10.4.11, Tiger edition).
I have a universal remote control that can be edited in the Windows platform only, but when I connect the remote to the Mac it does not appear within the Windows desktop or remote control software on the Windows side.
Is there a software patch that allows third party plug-ins to appear on the Windows XP desktop within Virtual PC for Mac?
I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"
I have got this weird things happening. A folder call "Boot OS X" will suddenly appear on my desktop, screenshot as follow: When double click on it, it does not open. When I reboot my Mac, it disappears. Sometimes, I can get a few of those folders on my desktop until I reboot. Been searching the forum without much information. Anyone can shed some light on this behavior? I am on Snow Leopard, and this started before I upgrade to Snow Leopard.

My Macbook Air has been working fine up until recently. Now all of a sudden I get a white screen and a flashing folder on start up. I've looked into this on the support forums and found nothing. The following did nothing for me and I can't get to Disk Utility:
Pressing Option+C
Pressing Option+D
Resetting VPROT.
However I thought I had some Joy with Option+R. It gets to the Internet recovery stream but then won't connect to any network. I have no Bootable version of MacOSX and can't create a copy on USB because the only other computer I have is a PC.Specs: Macbook Air (2011), 2GB Ram, 64GB SSD, i5 Processor, Mac OS X Lion.

I have an older MacBook Pro (1,1 first gen, Intel Core Duo, 2006). It's slowly dying, I think. What I'm wondering about are these lines that are appearing/disappearing on the screen. I think it may be a sign that the video card is going out. The lines are horizontal bands that appear often when I'm watching video. Occasionally they'll appear while scrolling or loading a webpage. They're usually quite thin, although it does appear to be getting worse. Does anyone know what this would be? Is it safe to assume a dead logic board is in my future? I videotaped it occurring here, in case you're interested (17 sec).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm new to MBP 13'' (2010), just 3 weeks now, and it's my first laptop, so I don't know if this is just normal or not. I have noticed there are several marks on screen appears to be from keyboard edges, say where the "E" key supposed to meet the screen. Looks like small spot scratches, but fortunately they came off when I clean them with damped cloth. It came back after I use and close/open the lid, same spots I think. New MBP design looks like the keys should not touch the screen, but it appears to be keep touching while lid is closed? What about yours, can you see marks when the screen is turned off? Or I may need to worry about screen protection? (if I do cleaning often the same spots I guess it may scratch eventually?)
