Mac Pro :: Won't Start, Only Clicks, With Usb Devices Plugged In
May 18, 2012
I have a Mac Pro that recently started doing the strangest thing. when you go to power it on, it just clicks. If you unplug the USB keyboard, mouse, and cable going to the usb hub built-in to the monitor, then start it up, it starts up normally.

My start up disk is my hard drive.
Whenever I take the hard drive out my laptop just stops working and it's back to normal when I put the hard drive in, is there a way for me to use my laptop without having to physically have my start up disk (hard drive) plugged into my laptop?

my macbook will not start unless its plugged in to a power source. if you unplug it while running, instead of switching to battery power, it shuts off. the battery is currently at 53%, so i do not know why it will not run on the battery.

I use my MBP 15" (the new one), as my primary machine in my office. I sit by my best usually 10-12hrs a day working on it.
I am trying to figure out what is best to do, keep the AC plugged in or have it un-plugged and only plug it in when the battery is drained (or less then 50%)? I have tried different experiments, plugged in, not-plugged and time is about the same for life of the battery. The true question is, how is is best to do it for the health of the battery.

I currently have my second MBP that I got from Macmall and both in a matter of two weeks have had similar issues. The first I managed to get returned and replaced, that is a seperate and complicated story in and of itself. This particular issue started with a boot up sequence that was taking about 5-6 mins. After going through the drill with Applecare thought I could restore using Time Machine. That's when I found out that the FW400 port no longer worked to power my Oyen Digital 250G FW drive. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem? This is my second MBP and Oyen Digital FW drive. I had them both replaced!

I just jailbroke my iPhone 3GS and installed MyWi to work with my iPad. I also tried it on my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. After I paired my iPhone and MacbBook Pro together everything worked fine. Now under the Airport Menu I see a separate category labeled "Devices" which is just below where my Home Network is.
My questions is how do I go about deleting this? I've tried everything. I deleted my device under Bluetooth Preferences, quit MyWi, messed around with the Network Preferences and it still appears under the Airport Menu. I even clicked connect but of course that doesn't work since I quit everything and deleted the device in Bluetooth settings. It's not even listed under "Preferred Networks" when you click on the advanced tab. It appears as "(my last name) Hotspot" and is under a tab labeled "Devices"

Sometimes in ALL programs (so far) I am not able to click certain stuff. For example, when I'm in Safari (4.0) I try to click a link but nothing happens. It shows me the clicking finger thing and I am able to scroll (I can not use the two finger scroll on the trackpad only the sidebar) and I am able to move the window around. I have found that I can fix it sort of by clicking the link millions of times. Oh also I can not right click the link but I can right click everywhere else.
I thought maybe it might be some of my 3rd party software but I doubt it. The only things I have installed are geekTool and this Cleardock replacement called Mirage.

I have a Macbook All of a sudden this morning my cursor does not actually select what I hover over. For example: to creat a new tab in my browser, I can't actually click on the "+" symbol to get a new untitled tab, I have to click about 1/4" to the right of the "+" sign to select it. This occurs with everything -- typing into text boxes, clicking "compose" to write a new email in Gmail -- everything! This is really annoying, it occurs when I click the mouse button and also when I tap on the track pad. (Clicking through this paragraph to edit this question has been a nightmare!

I am working on a friend's G5. It won't go to sleep. The monitor does, but not the CPU. I have upgraded the firmware, to 10.4.10, zapped the pram, corrected permissions. Just at a loss.
This computer worked fine at work where she had it originally, but when she shut it down and took it home, it has insomnia. Also, one of the front fans sounds like it is scraping or hitting something. It is not a loud noise and the fans still work, just annoying to her since it won't sleep. (Sounds like my one month old).

Since I bought my Macbook Pro 13" 2.53 I replaced my HDD to 500GB 7200, but since then I can hear clicks from time to time and my macbook lags at the same time if I am watching a movie or anything. I found a solution been explained by some PPL but its like no one trust the solution yet, now I tried it on my Snow Leopard, and I can say my problem is solved.
1- Find the attachment and unzip it somewhere on your HDD (I placed mine in Applications Folder)
2- Open your Terminal (You will find it at Applications>Utilities
3- locate your folder at the terminal by CD command
4- Once your at the folder where you placed the file write this command: hdapm disk0 max
It has to come back with successully message to you.

I've noticed an issue with my MacBook (early 2007 model). If I rest my hands too heavily on the areas next to the trackpad (indeed, even if lightly sometimes) the trackpad will register a click. It's pretty annoying since it causes things to jump around, or text to get jacked up if I'm typing in a box when this is happening. I can reproduce this easily and know it's not my finger brushing the pad. It seems to be exclusive to the right side of the track pad only.

I have a Unibody MacBook Pro (Summer 09) and I'd say my trackpad registers about 25 of every 30 clicks. So sometimes I click something (a link, etc.) and nothing happens but then I click it again and it works. The multi-touch gestures still work as advertised, just the clicks aren't working. I updated all of the stuff that was in the Software Updater and nothing's changed.

My problem is that about every 15-20 minutes my cursor will start jumping around wildly and click randomly for a good 30 seconds then stop. Then I will get control of it again for about 5 seconds and it will just stop or give me trouble and then go back to the same thing. This goes on for a good couple minutes till the rainbow wheel of death comes and stays for a bit then I'm back to being okay. This happens repeatedly while I am on my computer. Which is a Macbook Pro. It happened mostly when I am on firefox which I deleted because it seemed to be the source of it for a while, but it would continue happening even after I got rid of it. I cleared my hard drive to see if that would help, but still nothing.

Today I was working with my iMac without any problem, suddenly the mouse pointer start behaving very odd, when I tried to click an icon, menu or whatever the mouse start moving not allowing me do the work, I changed the wireless mouse suspecting was a hardware problem but when I connected the USB mouse I got the same problem, then I shutdown the iMac but after starting I got the same problem. I suspect is a trojan virus but I heard that Leopard operating system is very robust and virus is not currently a problem.

I have early '09 uMBP17 and I'm experiencing one of the issues which apparently plagued first TrackPads: when I press a TrackPad it clicks, yet application doesn't register the mouse click. It happens 50/50. If I press harder/hold pressed a bit longer - it works more often. Still very very annoying.
I have seen that issue with late 2008 MBPs was resolved with trackpad firmware update (and my uMBP17 has the update already).
Has anybody experienced the issue on early 2009 MBPs? MBP17?

I'm having this problem with my touchpad, which is really hard to explain in words, so I made this quick vid with my iPhone: As you can see, my touchpad "clicks" before I actually click. It makes the sound twice before the computer registers a click. My warranty has expired.

My mid 2010 Macbook Pro makes chirping and clicking noises from the hard drive however it only happens when I have my external monitor hooked up. Any one have any idea why? It is different from the Motion sensor click. I've found all over the net that others are experiancing this issue (not connected to external monitor) however haven't I haven't seen a conclusion.

Ok, so ive had this problem for a few months now and it has led me to the point where my mac was in storage and i havent touched it in a month or two. What happens is no matter what i am doing my mouse will move around the screen clicking randomly and basically doing whatever it wants. i have looked into the problem and other people have similiar issues but not the same. i can be across the room from my mac with the screen on, and the mouse will still move around and click and open countless folders even though no one at all is even near the computer. today when i took the mac out to see if there was a software update available (which there was) the mouse was not moving around or jumping at all througout the entire update. After the update it is now yet again jumpin around and clicking wherever it wants. Also its not just once in a while it is 24/7 it has made my mac unable to be used because you cant really control the mouse for more than a second at a time. my whole screen is now full of untitled folders..

I starting having problems with my MacBook this morning. After being asleep I started using it again and I wasn't getting a responce from mouse or trackpad clicks. The cursor will still move but I can't select anything. I did a hard restart once and it went back to normal. After it happened again I did another hard restart and it wouldn't boot up again. I did two hard shut downs/restarts and it finally booted up again. Although it's still not responding.

I've turned off all tap to select options but my trackpad still selects and drags when I wiggle my thumb on the bottom of the trackpad, where you generally click. I have a 2010 MacBook Air. Is my trackpad broken, or is there a way to turn this off?
