View 13 Repliesis it really worth it to buy a new Mac Pro in the Apple store vs getting it at a reseller such as Amazon? I'd like to save as much as possible, so no tax and shipping saves me over $200 on the low end Mac Pro alone. My concern is getting the Airport extreme wifi card, but I know its not available in the Apple store and from what I understand, the only way to get it is either by bringing in the Mac Pro to the Apple store to buy the airport extreme card and have it installed by Apple, or by buying it from somewhere like ebay and doing a DIY.
I do not prefer the latter option if it goes against warranty, even though it may be easy. But does anyone know how much it would cost to have Apple install it, and if its same day installation? All in all, is it worth it to go through Apple with the Mac Pro, and pay the $200+ in additional tax? Actually, the airport extreme card is the ONLY CTO option that I want to add to the machine because everything else I'll add or upgrade later. So I can't help but feel like thats just so much money just to get the card. Of course, I'm planning all this for the 2010 Mac Pro, which is what I'm saving up for, but I'd like to get someone's opinion on this.
I'm in the market for the 13" model and I'd like to get the 4gb of RAM in the base model. Unfortunately being that I live in California I'll have to deal with 8.25% sales tax on top of the upgraded price of the laptop. This ends up putting me over $1500 for a base 13" with 4gb of RAM. I can get the 13" with the stock 2gb of RAM off Amazon shipped overnight for $1300 and no tax. So is 2gb of RAM really worth ~$225? I have an i7 iMac as my primary machine and realistically don't see doing any heavy work on the Air, but I still like to "futureproof" my hardware if the cost is reasonable regardless. I did test a stock unit at the local Apple Store and I opened about 8-10 apps like mail, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, Safari, Finder, some QT videos I found on the computer, etc. With all of that open it seemed to run pretty well. Normally I don't have that many apps open at a time.

Places like MacMall aren't an option for me because New York has some unique, very strict law about how businesses have to collect sales tax from online purchases. Did you guys know that technically we're all required to report online purchases and pay sales and use tax on them every year? Today I finally decided to get it from MacMall, but to my surprise I have to pay $125 sales tax, even though they are in California. Called customer service and was told that there is a new rule for online orders shipped to NY state that they all will have sales tax added regardless of the shippers location. View 2 Replies View RelatedMy late 2008 MBP has been running very hot (with a virtual machine running the other night, it got up to 175F/80C) so I took it in to an Apple Authorized Service Provider today about an hour ago. After reading some of the threads on here about the thermal paste, I figured I'd at least have an AASP look at it first since it's still under warranty. The gentleman there told me it'd be middle of next week before he'd have a diagnosis. Is this a normal timeframe? I guess I assumed that they'd just take a look at it right away or at the latest I'd have to stop back in later today to pick it up, but that's almost a week away just for the diagnosis!
I work in Fort Wayne, IN, so I'm 3 hours from the nearest retail store in Indy, or closer to 4 for Chicago, so this is my only option.
It all started with QuickBooks 2012 for Mac. The program hangs and was displaying incorrect dates, etc.. Spoke to QuickBooks and they assured me that it wasn't their software, then spoke to Mac and they said it wasn't their hardware. Took computer into shop, because my bookkeeper's Mac worked fine with my company file. Shop cannot figure out what is wrong. They said that it might have needed to be upgraded to the latest operating system (Lion from Snow Leopard). This did not do the trick. They said that they tested the processor and it didn't show any problems.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI reside in Tennessee where sales tax is 9.25%. I am being charged an extra 2 cents or so in tax on an average album purchase.Here is the most recent example. I bought Ryan Adam's iTunes Session album at the price of $7.99. Here's the math:
$7.99 X 1.0925 = $8.729, or, rounded up, $8.73.
iTunes charged me $8.75. Why? It's an extra 2 cents and is an overcharge, no matter the small amount. I've looked at my account and this has happened on every iTunes purchase for at least 5 months. I didn't check back any farther, as obviously something is wrong, unless there is an additional tax I am not aware of. I don't want to think the worst about Apple, but it's hard not to calculate that 2 cents multiplied by millions is a lot of money.
Could anyone recommend a program for tracking daily sales? My company sells about 50 different items, and I'm looking for a program that can track the daily sales of each item and then generate reports and graphs that detail the daily, weekly and yearly sales for each of the items. We also have about 30-40 different marketing initiatives, and the program would ideally be able to track those as well and prepare ROI tables.
I currently have something setup in Excel using PivotTables but it's not very robust, and the Excel file can get easily corrupted. I was thinking FileMaker might be a good solution, but I'm not sure if I'm knowledgeable enough to create the charts and graphs that I need, so I'm sort of hoping for a solution that comes ready made. I'm open to both software and webapps solutions.

We ahve taken the Mac plunge.We purchased an 21.5' iMac and 13" Air refurbished, both are X 10.7 with the extended care and 1 to 1 for both of us.I am also picking up a new Timecapsule 2TB.I am wondering about questions of setup and apps to use.We are clumsy with this stuff and only familiar with MS Office and Outlook.Our use does not include gaming, music, or hardcore picture manipulations.My business use does not require building spreadsheets and usually viewing only.I have not used Powerpoint type presentations but am preparing to learn to.I also plan to add simple graphics skills to draw simple tooling schematics.I am in the oilpatch service industry in Canada.We like simple clean programs that do not shove prompts down your throat ot presume to know what we want.Dare I say we are very tired of the bloated insecure world of PCs, no insult intended.We don't need endless fonts and templates.

Currently until Sunday in Alabama their is no sales tax on most electronics and "back to school" products. My question is I don't have an Apple Store near me just a Best Buy. They have the 15" i7 model in stock but I don't know if it's the high resolution display model. My two questions are, is the high res display worth it? Also, do you think they would have that in stock or is a BTO item only?

But when I click "Authorize Computer" it's telling me it's already authorized. You can see from the screenshots that nnone of the the 3 computers listed are MacBook Pros. It's an old MBP running 10.6.8, don't know if that has any bearing.

I've recently begun to get an error message saying that "my display is not authorized to play" TV episodes downloaded from iTunes, and that I need to connect a display that is "HDCP-compatible."
I use a new Mac mini, bought in December, and a 24'' HP display that is also fairly new (purchased last summer). Up until now, I've had no problems playing these episodes on my mini, nor on my older computer (where they were first downloaded).
Both computers were hooked up to the same monitor via mini-DVI-DVI / DVI-HDMI cables. I've searched these forums as well as around the internet, and most of what I've found is from people using mini-displayport.
I also haven't found anyone who randomly had this problem start after having viewed content on their machines successfully. It was literally not happening one day, and then started the next.
I just bought an album on iTunes (same account I always use, the only one computer I have), and for some reason only ONE of the songs is telling me "This song is not authorized to play on your computer." I tried typing in my info to see if that would work, but it didn't, it said this computer is already authorized (which I already knew, because every other song on my iTunes plays, including all the other songs on this particular album). I followed all the tips on the support website for this particular issue and nothing worked. I also went into my account, deauthorized all the computers (my old computers that I don't have anymore were still on there), then reauthorized this one, and still no luck. How do I get this song to play?

I just made the move to iCloud from MobileMe. Following the directions on iCloud for iTunes to push of applications to this computer. iTunes said this computer was not authorized. Tried to authorize and got the above. I repaired the permissions, got the above again. Tried to deauthorize the computer and got the above again. What file has to be rebuilt. Reinstalled iTunes hoping the file would rebuild. I've deactivated all computers, the iPad and other MacBookPro (authorized with no problem) show up in the devices. When I authorized the other MacBookPro it said it was one of three out of five allowed.
Ive tried everything I know to no avail. Can't get the 17" authorized.

I have an new imac.Everyhting is working in itunes.all songs play no problem through the computer (including purchased songs)Computer has been authorized.Old imac has been unauthorized already.Latest itunes update done.Everything was working fine until I plugged in my ipod for the first time on the new imac.A pop up came up that reads that the computer is not authorized to put the downloaded songs onto the ipod. Another pop up comes up and reads "this computer is already authorized".I click OK.Immediately a pop up comes up that reads that the computer is not authorized this happens over and over.if I click "don't authorize" the program starts syncing my ipod without my downloads.so I just unplugged the ipod.The computer will play the downloaded songs no problem the problem comes when I plug in the ipod.

I am in process of setting up a new computer system. I've purchased a Windows 7 PC and am migrating my music from a PowerPC Mac. Both systems are active authorized iTunes computers. I set them up to share and used the share utility to import my entire library into the new system.
Every single non-iTunes songs transferred without issue - 27,000+ of them but every single iTunes purchased songs, only 400 of them, did not.
My computer is for sure authorized to play purchased movies (I've de-authorized and re-authorized). Yet, when I try to play any TV shows that I have purchased, it continually tells me the computer is not authorized and plays just a blank gray screen. I have the newest version of iTunes installed?
