My MacBookPro was having a trouble opening some programs, now it's not recognizing the installation cd's but not having problems with the music ones. So I decided to just restore, erase it all and start all again. How to do that with no cd?

I have just installed a windows vista partition on my 17 inch macbook pro and when I insert the mac osx installation dvd in order to install the mac drivers the on the windows partition the d drive shows that something has been inserted but the cd has no name and whenever I try to click on it says nothing is on the cd. However when I insert the dvd in the mac osx partition it reads the dvd fine. Why is this? There is a scratch on the dvd but what difference would it make if the mac partition is reading it fine?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought the new 27 inch iMac I have been using Time Machine on my macbook4 pro and used the backup with migration assistant to the new iMac. When I did the restore, everything went fine except iTunes does not recognize my iPhone or iPad. It does not show up at all when plugged into the iMac. The one thing I had to do when using the restore was change the name of my user account info as it would not transfer to the iMac with the same user info. Anyone got a clue on what I should do to get iTunes to recognize my iPhone and iPad?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am on my Macbook Pro 17 with an HDD of about 350 GB. My HDD is Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) formated with Snow Leopard installed. I want to make a fresh Snow Leopard installation on the HDD formated as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but I don't want to lose my applications (it takes too much time to download/install all those) I need a way to get my apps back after/while installing Snow Leopard. What I am thinking is clone my HDD to another blank HDD that I have (about 600 GB) and while installing Snow Leopard chose to transfer my applications. I could also use the Migration Assistant after Snow Leopard is installed (I am not really sure that those options will be possible) I need to know if making a clone of my HDD and then transfer the applications is possible and how can I get it done (what software is needed?) If that's not possible, how do you suggest me to transfer my applications to the fresh Snow Leopard installation?

1 Does a full restore reset all backed up system settings or does it keep the fresh installation and include all your apps and settings such as mail accounts mail folders documents pictures movies podcasts etc without the bugs
2 Should the answer to 1 be a yes all compromised settings will be restored, then will I have issues with installing VMware fusion as its an encripted integrated app that I keep all my master business applications but store documents in the Mac documents area

1 My accounting tax business has been hacked over and over again for the last 7 months from start of tax season
2 I have lost 50% of my clients due to the interruptions and been hospitalized twice from sitting on the computer for extended hours and days reinstalling fresh system and restoring Mac documents only, 3 times over, as well as trying to learn everything about best practice, hacks etc
3 I'm using fire vault 2 however the time machine backup is not encripted are there any potential problems with either of the two methods?
4 I will be using a proxy server when I next build the Mac will this be enough to mitigate potential security breach using the full time machine restore method?
5 I have many apps that I have not purchased through the app center and have not kept the keys and will be a headache to get all my details
6 what implications are there as far as the prior keychain access is consurned? How does that get restored?

I'm trying to use a Blue Snowball USB microphone to record in Garage Band (run on Mac OSX Snow Leopard). However, Garageband is not recognizing the Snowball when I go to Preferences.
In addition my mac is not recognizing the snowball when I go under sound within system preferences.
The power light is illuminated on the Snowball. I tried the Blue on my friend's mac computer and it also did not recognize the mic.
I plugged in my microphone into the mic port on the left side of the computer. I am trying to use it for my Ustream feed but it is not recognizing it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've owned my macbook air for less than 12 hours, and it's already f'd. I normally use a time-capsule to back up my old macbook. I had filevault turned on, on my old macbook (and so I guess it was also applied to the data on the time-capsule) -I turned on my new MBA and told it to take all the macbook data (including login profiles etc) off of my time capsule. I figured this would be easier than migrating components of the data over.-Now, I can't login to my profile on my new macbook air. I have the right password, but it's saying that filevault can access the data, or something. Maybe it's because it's not recognizing the new machine. -At this point, I just want to start fresh with the macbook air. I stuck that little reboot key in the usb port and re-installed the software. Unfortunately, after I did that, the old login profile (which I can't access) were still on there. I get it - I'm bad with computers. Even with the really user-friendly, idiot-proof ones.

View 17 Replies View RelatedSo... for reasons unknown, my macbook pro is not recognizing it's internal speakers, in the sound options for output it only shows the digital out option.I searched trough the apple support site and the mac's help and all they say is to select the speakers, but that's kinda hard when they play hide and seek. Anyone knows what's up with that? Cause the weirdest thing is that they will make that mac sound when you first press the "on" button.

I never had any trouble until recently, and when I open up the "Printers and Faxes" option in System Preferences, my printer isn't listed. When I click "add a printer", it's not there. I have cleared my printers and reset everything, but it hasn't fixed it. I can plug it in via USB and it recognizes it, but it won't find it via airport.

I spoke on the phone with applecare and was able to restore the touch but neither the laptop or itunes will even recognize it's there. However, applecare is closed now and i would really like to be able to use it for work tomorrow.
I know my usb ports work, i've tried 3 different cables, tried restarting the touch , the ipod touch charges but since it's new the startup screen telling me to plug it into the computer, is all i can access on the touch. I just updated itunes and restarted my mbp and still nothing.
I own a MacBook Pro, around a year old, which is not recognising any video DVDs I insert. After putting them in, the computer makes the usual motions and sounds, but after a few seconds spits the disk out again. The disk isn't mounted on the desktop during this time, and DVD player does not launch automatically. I have tried opening DVD player myself while the computer is trying to find the disk, but there is still no result.
My MacBook has previously recognised these same disks, up to a few weeks ago when I found I might need to insert the disk two or three times before it played. CDs are still recognised by the computer (and iTunes, as well as mounting on the desktop), as are DVD-ROMs. I have tried many different DVDs, all of which play in my other Macs and DVD players.
I have a MAC Book and am trying to upload some files from an external drive (OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro) to my notebook but am having trouble with it. When I plug it in, the drive doesn't even appear as an icon on my desktop. The drive works, is charged and is on.

I just purchased a MacBook Pro and when I tried to import all my music files, from an external drive, iTunes did not recognize the .wma files.Â
I ended up copying all of the files (50GB worth) from the external drive to the Music directory on the MacBook. That is when I was able to determine that it was the file format that iTunes did not recognize. And clearly I see why, they are Windows Media files.Â
Is my best option to use Switch (or similar file converter program) to convert all the files that are currently .wma to .mp3 and just be done with it. Or is there an add-on for iTunes that can do this?Â
I am more than okay with deleting all the music files from the MacBook and starting over. I just want to get this right, from the start.Â

I have a MacBook Pro- purchased in September of 2011- that has now stopped recognizing my WD Passport. The Passport works fine with my wife's PC laptop, but is not showing up on the MBP. The light on the Passport flashes, but that's all. It does not show up in the Finder and Time Machine is unable to perform backup.
I have first restarted the MBP and then shut down and then turned the MBP back on. Neither time did anything. I have an older SimpleTech external that it now recognizes again- after appearing not to. After multiple attempts and using both USB ports, sadly have gotten nowhere.

Unfortunately it will not recognize my Sony DV camera, or an external HD connected via FW400 or my 12" PB booted in target disk mode. The camera and the hard drive both mount instantly on my 12" PB and a friends 15" PB. Also, when I check the Firewire status under System Profiler all it says is: Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices (in red). This is regardless of what is connected to the port or if nothing is connected to the port. As recommended by the Apple Store rep, I bought the minidisplay to DVI adpater to connect my 20" Viewsonic VG2030wm. Unfortunately, the MacBook Air 13" is not recognising the monitor. It doesn't detect it at all.
I know the monitor and the DVI cable work because it works with my original MacBook Air (2008 model) that uses a micro-DVI to DVI adapter. My last resort is to take the new MacBook Air, the Viewsonic monitor, cables and adpaters to my local Apple Store to see if they can figure out it out. However, I won't be able to go until two days later when I have access to a car.

I took pictures with it on my Nikon D5100 and now when I went to go look at the pictures on my camera, I got an error message that said this card is broken and that I need a new SD Card.
