MacBook Pro :: ITunes - Not Recognizing .wma Files
May 15, 2012
I just purchased a MacBook Pro and when I tried to import all my music files, from an external drive, iTunes did not recognize the .wma files.
I ended up copying all of the files (50GB worth) from the external drive to the Music directory on the MacBook. That is when I was able to determine that it was the file format that iTunes did not recognize. And clearly I see why, they are Windows Media files.
Is my best option to use Switch (or similar file converter program) to convert all the files that are currently .wma to .mp3 and just be done with it. Or is there an add-on for iTunes that can do this?
I am more than okay with deleting all the music files from the MacBook and starting over. I just want to get this right, from the start.

I am having problems with Image Capture not recognizing all the files on my camera (and recognizing photos that have long since been deleted). So I just took a few pictures to test out and see if I could get it to work right. I plugged in my camera and opened up image capture. I clicked download all. It downloaded two pictures that are not even on my camera (I double checked to make sure) and they were deleted weeks ago. And it's not recognizing the pictures I just took. There are about 23 pictures and it's not recognizing any of them just the two pictures that were deleted a while back. What's going on here? I'm new to Mac by the way.

So, I have all of my imovie projects backed up on my external harddrive, as well as the imovie program. I accidentally deleted all of the imovie projects and events from the imovie application on my laptop. When I try to re-import the imovie files into imovie, it doesn't recognize the files. I have tried to convert them with iSkySoft Video Converter. That converter program does not recognize the files either. I also tried burning the files onto a disc and then pulling them off the disc with the Handbrake program. This doesn't work either. I also tried importing the files into iMovie HD, which I have on my desktop, but to no avail. Are these files alll useless now? I'm at my wits end because I have spent literally months compiling footage for a documentary.

a new problem with my MacBook I think. The iTunes widget on my dashboard isn't working correctly, when I click on the i button to turn around the widget to select a playlist, the dashboard freezes temporarily and when it turns around there are no playlists to select. I know I have loads of playlists and I am using the original iTunes widget that came installed on the machine.

Whenever I open up iTunes on Vista x86 it appears empty with all my playlist, videos etc. gone. The folder that iTunes gets my music from hasn't changed. When I open iTunes the iTunes Library Extras and iTunes Library Genius are always sent to the recycle bin and there is nothing I can do to stop that from happening. When I check my music folder new versions of those files are there. I am really scared that I won't be able to get my music back as I have a lot.

I had an Imac running Snow Leopard... I mistakenly(?) thought i could change Permissions by selecting "Everyone" from the startup volume HD icon's Permissions panel and in turn, chose "Apply to All Enclosed Files and Folders" option thinking this would allow all other computers on a small office network to have total free and clear no-security-required, file-sharing read/write- access to this Imac's contents. After doing this and attempting reboot, I couldn't get access to the OS at all even after i ran DiskWarrior and DiskUtilities, so, wound up doing Archive/Install - but used an OS 10.5 disk because i (mistakenly)thought that my 10.6 Snow Leopard disk was only an Updater. So after installing 10.5 again I ran the OS 10.63 disk's installer, bringing the new System Folder up to Snow Leopard. I'm up and running - most system software updates downloaded/done. Problem is now this -- stuff like: Email Clients, Itunes, Browsers, any Apps that had associated data/content files isn't recognizing the old, original contents that belonged to them - instead, these apps all

I just bought the new 27 inch iMac I have been using Time Machine on my macbook4 pro and used the backup with migration assistant to the new iMac. When I did the restore, everything went fine except iTunes does not recognize my iPhone or iPad. It does not show up at all when plugged into the iMac. The one thing I had to do when using the restore was change the name of my user account info as it would not transfer to the iMac with the same user info. Anyone got a clue on what I should do to get iTunes to recognize my iPhone and iPad?

Ok so my iTunes account is not recognising my iPhone at all. I recently bought a new MacBook Air, and when I turned it on for the first time I installed a Time Capsule backup. iPhone was fine with my old iMac, but now on the Air, iTunes just will not recognise it! I'm pretty sure it's not a USB problem, as when I plug it in to the Air, it chimes and charges, but the iPhone is not showing in the iTunes device list! I tried to solve this last night by deleting and reinstalling iTunes. It solved the issue temporarily and the iPhone was recognised, but when plugging it in again after that, same old story.

When importing songs into iTunes, the software by default is set to copy the music files to the iTunes media folder and convert them to .m4a format. This, of course, results in having two copies of each song after the import is done. Before I disable this option I'd like to know what you think are the pros and cons of having this option enabled/disabled.

I'm trying to use a Blue Snowball USB microphone to record in Garage Band (run on Mac OSX Snow Leopard). However, Garageband is not recognizing the Snowball when I go to Preferences.
In addition my mac is not recognizing the snowball when I go under sound within system preferences.
The power light is illuminated on the Snowball. I tried the Blue on my friend's mac computer and it also did not recognize the mic.

I've owned my macbook air for less than 12 hours, and it's already f'd. I normally use a time-capsule to back up my old macbook. I had filevault turned on, on my old macbook (and so I guess it was also applied to the data on the time-capsule) -I turned on my new MBA and told it to take all the macbook data (including login profiles etc) off of my time capsule. I figured this would be easier than migrating components of the data over.-Now, I can't login to my profile on my new macbook air. I have the right password, but it's saying that filevault can access the data, or something. Maybe it's because it's not recognizing the new machine. -At this point, I just want to start fresh with the macbook air. I stuck that little reboot key in the usb port and re-installed the software. Unfortunately, after I did that, the old login profile (which I can't access) were still on there. I get it - I'm bad with computers. Even with the really user-friendly, idiot-proof ones.

I notice sometimes that if I don't type anything with the keyboard for a few minutes, that when I resume typing the computer does not input the first keystroke. Does anyone else have this issue? IIRC, the SR MBP I had before this that I got replaced did this as well.

So... for reasons unknown, my macbook pro is not recognizing it's internal speakers, in the sound options for output it only shows the digital out option.I searched trough the apple support site and the mac's help and all they say is to select the speakers, but that's kinda hard when they play hide and seek. Anyone knows what's up with that? Cause the weirdest thing is that they will make that mac sound when you first press the "on" button.

I have a 13" Macbook that, all of a sudden, cannot find my HP 4280 printer on my network. The Printer is plugged into my 21" iMac, and I'm using a Linksys router. I never had any trouble until recently, and when I open up the "Printers and Faxes" option in System Preferences, my printer isn't listed. When I click "add a printer", it's not there. I have cleared my printers and reset everything, but it hasn't fixed it. I can plug it in via USB and it recognizes it, but it won't find it via airport.

It went from having 4Gb yesterday (or the last time I checked it anyway) down to 2Gb. I'm using a Macbook Pro Unibody bought in July 2009. System Profiler says that it only has RAM in one slot. What's going on and how can I sort it? After Effects is also saying that it can't multi-process - I was able to previously so I'm confused on that too.

So i decided not to sell my free ipod touch, however my mbp won't recognize that i've plugged the ipod touch in. I spoke on the phone with applecare and was able to restore the touch but neither the laptop or itunes will even recognize it's there. However, applecare is closed now and i would really like to be able to use it for work tomorrow.
I know my usb ports work, i've tried 3 different cables, tried restarting the touch , the ipod touch charges but since it's new the startup screen telling me to plug it into the computer, is all i can access on the touch. I just updated itunes and restarted my mbp and still nothing.

I own a MacBook Pro, around a year old, which is not recognising any video DVDs I insert. After putting them in, the computer makes the usual motions and sounds, but after a few seconds spits the disk out again. The disk isn't mounted on the desktop during this time, and DVD player does not launch automatically. I have tried opening DVD player myself while the computer is trying to find the disk, but there is still no result.
My MacBook has previously recognised these same disks, up to a few weeks ago when I found I might need to insert the disk two or three times before it played. CDs are still recognised by the computer (and iTunes, as well as mounting on the desktop), as are DVD-ROMs. I have tried many different DVDs, all of which play in my other Macs and DVD players.

I have a MacBook Pro- purchased in September of 2011- that has now stopped recognizing my WD Passport. The Passport works fine with my wife's PC laptop, but is not showing up on the MBP. The light on the Passport flashes, but that's all. It does not show up in the Finder and Time Machine is unable to perform backup.
I have first restarted the MBP and then shut down and then turned the MBP back on. Neither time did anything. I have an older SimpleTech external that it now recognizes again- after appearing not to. After multiple attempts and using both USB ports, sadly have gotten nowhere.
