MacBook Pro :: Sees External Display But No Output?

Jun 14, 2012

13" MacBook Pro 2.3 Intel i5  8gb ram 500gb hybrid Hdd OS X 10.7.4 Thunderbolt port mini display port to DVI and with HDMI adapter works fine mini DP to VGA adapter will see VGA monitor (tested on 5 different monitors) but will not display anything on external display. Newer displays just go into power saving mode and older VGA displays just are blank. Even tried DVI to VGA adapter on mini DP to DVI adapter with same issue. I'm guessing I have no analog output from the DP port. tried the SMC and PRAM reset with no results.

MacBook Pro :: External Display Causes Noise In Sound Output?

Mar 28, 2012

I use studio monitors (speakers) with my macbook pro 13 (2010) and a samsung 1080p external display. Whenever I plug the display in, it causes a hum in the speakers, and weirdly the pitch of this hum varies depending on the brightness of the contents of my screen. I have borrowed my friends USB audio interface, and I still experience the same problem, except the hum is now cleaner and louder. I would assume this rules out problems with the internal sound card.

In both cases, the hum stops when the sound card/output 'goes to sleep' (ie after there has been no sound output for a few seconds). Also the hum only starts when the computer is outputting to the display. In the few seconds between physically plugging the display in, and the mac sending a signal to it, there is no hum. This is why I'm starting to think this may be a problem with the computer and not the monitor. The monitor is a cheap (£120) monitor - samsung p2270HD, and also has a TV tuner and stuff.

What I need to know is whether this is a problem with the computer, bleeding the signal through to the sound output, or whether it's my kind of crappy monitor. Another thing, might it help if I changed from VGA (analogue) to DVI (digital) video output?

IMac PPC :: G5 Resizes Display On Its Own, Sees Two Displays?

Mar 19, 2012

My iMac G5 resizes its display  on its own. The screen will suddenly go dark, then reappear in a smaller size with a black band around the edges. Eventually it will resize again to the correct display. I found when this happens it is "seeing" two displays, both the iMac, and an obviously non-existent "VGA Display." This doesn't happen all that often, and othewise everything seems to be working perfectly. Is this a software issue I can take care of, or an early warning sign of something more perfidious?

MacBook Pro :: Using MBP Display As Video Output Xbox 360

Aug 10, 2010

I've got quite a simple question about an MBP and an Xbox 360, which I'm sure some have asked and others have answered before, but I'm looking for a straight-forward response given the situation I find myself into. So I've got the two devices, and I'd like to use the MBP's display as a video output for the 360. What I've also got is a VGA adapter for the 360, so I could connect it to a monitor instead of a TV. So basically, is this achievable, and if it is, what else do I need, in case I need anything else? Sorry for the improper way of writing this message, but all I have is an HTC Desire, and I find it quite difficult to type very well.

MacBook Pro :: Digital Audio Output (HDMI) On It When Cinema Display Is Already Connected?

I would like to connect my Macbook Pro to my hometheatre via HDMI. Normally no problem with the mini display port and an HDMI adapter, but the port is already used for the 27" cinema display... Is there another adapter available that let`s me connect both, an HDMI device and the cinema display to my Macbook? I only care about the sound - I want to get digital sound to my receiver. MacBook Pro :: Output To External Monitor Via HDMI?

Apr 19, 2010

I picked up a MBP 15" core i7 high res laptop on Friday. I actually ordered one of those mini displayport -> HDMI awhile back (was going to get a mini, decided no), however when I hook it up to my plasma it won't adjust the resolution to 1920 x 1080, I checked "display" in system settings but it won't let me push it past the native resolution of the laptop screen.

Any suggestions how to get around this? Also it mentions on the website it can push sound over HDMI now, I wasn't able to figure that out either.

MacBook Pro :: External Speakers Not Working For Audio Output

May 21, 2012

I have owned my MacBook Pro since June 2010, and have always used a pair of independently powered (via adapter) external Dell speakers for audio output. Since upgrading to Lion about 1 month ago, I was having intermittent audio issues, which were resolved by re-starting my computer (not ideal but it worked). Today, the speakers just stopped working. The internal speakers work, but when I plug the externals into the headphone port, they don't produce sound. Earbuds in the same port also don't work (I know the earbuds are good). The external speakers are being recognized by the sound panel in system preferences.

Mac Pro :: No Output To Display / LCD Monitor

Feb 28, 2008

MacPro 8 core Nvidia 8800, RAID card - arrived 2/25. Tried second monitor; monitor is blank (and turned on, and says "digital signal" when unplugging display connector from the machine, so it's recognizing the connection, monitor is fine on old G5). RMA'd for a new 8800, rec'd that on 2/28 - same result, so it's probably not the card. Tried 8800 card in different slots, so probably not a slot. Ram lights flash, HD spins, power light is on, so likely not power supply. Motherboard or RAM is only other thing I can think of, or maybe some kind of incompatibility with the 8800. Also, the fans on both 8800's run at what seems like full power when turning the machine on - is that typical for the 8800? Maybe that's a symptom of the problem; it's a lot louder than I would prefer.

MacBook :: Keeps Switching Between Internal Output And Digital Output For Sound?

I have no idea where the Digitial Output is coming from and this started about a month again. It switches randomly and then I loose all sound for a few seconds. Sometimes it happens once then stops for a few days, other times it switches back and forth for 5 min. No idea!!!

I'm looking to run video out to two TVs, but it's over a decent distance, so I'm worried that using an HDMI splitter would cut the signal and suffer quality loss. When the display is output this way (split three ways) the resolution does not fit the displays, and there is no means to change it to a setting where it will fit the TVs. As the title states. I am looking for an external display that matches the display on my black MacBook. I want one with the same gloss finish as my MacBook, this way I can calibrate both screens to look the same. That way when I switch screens it doesn't look different.

Anyone know of a screen that looks identical to the (previous generation) MacBook? I was thinking of getting a Samsung T240 but it has a different finish. How are ASUS screens? Any screens out there that have the same gloss finish?

OS X :: No Audio Output From External Input.

Sep 12, 2010

I have a mac mini (solo intel) 10.4 OSX. I have no audio output when attaching an external input source like a CD player or ipod to the input jack on my Mac Mini. Audio output from ITunes or movies clips in IPhoto works fine. I have checked the cables and connections. I have checked the "sound" location in System Preferences to make sure the "built in output" source is selected. The input volume display shows that the audio input is being registered. I have checked "system profiler" in the Utilities folder in Applications to make sure the "built in output" AKA headphone outlet is recognized.

I have the "Soundflower" App. installed but turned off.

why the audio output from the internal sources like ITunes and IPhoto music clips work but the audio output from an external input source does not? Is there some software or a driver required for audio output from an external source that is not required for audio output from an internal source?
