Keyboard and Trackpad stopped working suddenly

It seems that during my afternoon class, I shut down my macbook and then when I went to use it about 10 minutes later the keyboard nor the trackpad works. Now the keyboard/trackpad is not defective as it works via the OSX install cd and it works in Windows Vista (dual booted) When ever I start up OSX it just comes up and the mouse is in the upper left hand corner, and the keyboard doesn't work at all. I have tried a pram reset by pressing command + option + p + r and that did nothing. When I am in OSX the only way to get out is to hold down the power button till the macbook turns off. What else could be wrong is there anything I can do, the nearest Apple store is about 80 miles away so I am trying to avoid that at this point as it seems like a software issue.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTwo or three days ago, the topmost line of my keyboard (contains esc, brightness, expose, dashboard, play/pause, mute, eject, etc.) suddenly stopped working. Strangely, some of the keys have switched functions: expose opens a search bar, keyboard dimmer refreshes the webpage, keyboard brighter selects the web address, play/pause is now shows Spaces, skip forward is expose, and sound increase is dashboard. I reset my keyboard, but nothing changed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe trackpad on my iBook G4 1.44ghz stopped working this morning! At first it went stuttery. I temporarily solved this by plugging in a mouse- without using the mouse itself, this seemed to make the trackpad responsive again.
After letting the iBook go to sleep, the trackpad doesn't work at all; nothing I do seems to make it respond. I've tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM, but this hasn't done anything.
Is there anything else I can do, short of buying a new trackpad?
So recently my keyboard and trackpad stopped working after a restart, none of the keys or the trackpad worked, however, the power button works for some strange reason. I haven't installed any software previous the restart, it's strange why this is happening.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSometimes while using computer, the entire keyboard and trackpad suddenly go completely unresponsive and I can't do anything. The only button that works is the power button. It's so annoying because I have to do an emergency shutdown and I hate doing that. Is there any relief?

Today I was working with some work and put my laptop to sleep by shutting the lid. Less than half an hour later I opened it and the keyboard and trackpad were both unresponsive. I tried everything but nothing worked so I shutdown the computer by holding the power button down. I then restarted it and they still wouldn't work so I was unable to login. I have also tried an SMC reset but this was to no avail either.

I installed 10.5.7 yesterday. Immediately after the installation was complete, my Apple bluetooth keyboard stopped working. Went into Bluetooth system settings, and it said that there was no bluetooth hardware found... (it's built into the machine!!)...
Also, every time I start iTunes, it gives some weird error about Adobe Flash player. I'm not at home now so I don't have the exact wording of the error with me, sorry...
I was using my laptop as usual and the keyboard just stopped working, tried the trackpad and it was also gone. Used an USB mouse to get to preferences and no trackpas is being recognized by the laptop. I wanted to activate bluetooth to use an external keyboard but no bluetooth device is recognized inside neither.Â
Rebooted, powered off & on, plugged the MagSafe connector, tried without power and then used the three-prong power cable plugged it into a grounded outlet. No change, keyboard, trackpad and bluetooth are dead.Â
This laptop never showed any issues at all and, as I mentioned, I was working as usual with it.Â

I was watching a show on my mid-2012 15' rMBP when my keyboard and trackpad suddenly stopped working. I tried to hibernate (closing and opening) my laptop to no avail. it was only after i had reset it (held on to the power button) did my keyboard and trackpad return to the normal state. Is there any logical explanation to this?

Today when I tried to connect my charger, the charging light suddenly went out after a few seconds. It's never done this before, and now my computer isn't charging. I looked at several problems that were similar to this, and I've tried everything short of replacing the charger. I followed the link to the article that explains what to do in this situation; I checked absolutely everything on my charger that it told me to, and cleaned off the area around the magnetic pins. I tested the charger in several different outlets, with no results.Â
I also followed the steps to reset the SMC. That didn't work either. Something else that's important to note is that there is an area on my computer between the MagSafe power port and the Gigabit Ethernet port that is damaged. The plastic covering between these two ports had broken off about a week ago, and there is a prominent gap between them. But, my charger was still working just fine before today. Could this damage still have something to do with why my charger stopped working?

I have a network printer setup at my house, and it suddenly stopped working. Here's my setup.
Mac (printing computer): Macbook Pro, 10.6.3.
Router: Generic router.
"Server": Acer netbook running Windows 7 Ultimate
Printer: Samsung CLX-3170 series color laserjet
I use LPD and this is what I type in:
192.168.10.9 (This is the netbook's IP address. The printer's sharename in Windows 7 is CLX3175.This printer was working fine, but it just suddenly stopped working just now. Does anyone have ideas?
I had my computer plugged into some external computer speakers (nothing where I had to downlaod any software, I have used these speakers before), and when I removed them, all of a sudden the built in speakers weren't working. I tried to adjust the vollume, but I get the volume image with a little "forbidden" circle and cross underneath. I tried adjusting the settings in System Preferences, but when I got to the audio settings there was only the one "Optical digital-out port". I then updated my computer, but still no luck. Lastly I went to Utilities and to Audio Midi Setup to reset everything to the default settings, but I am unable to adjust everything. It's all that lighter shade of grey that tells me I can't select it.Â

I was charging my macbook. It was charging when I left, upon my return, after about 30 minutes, I found that the light was no longer green. There was no light on at all. I tried restarting multiple times. There are no stuck prongs in my power cord. I tried different outlets. I tested the outlet to verify it worked. My computer will charge fine with other power cords, but just not the one I want it to use? Is there anything else I can try before purchasing a new cord?

For photo booth you simply have a black screen. Been told that re-install the operating system but will this wipe everything?

I have a one month old "late 2011 model" unibody Macbook Pro where the HDMI output just suddenly stopped working with no changes in configuration. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, switched HDMI cables, cold rebooting everything, tried different HDMI ports, different resolutions on the TV and switched audio output settings, nothing works. When I plug the cable in the Mac switches resolutions, recognizes the TV in the Displays preference panel and correctly identifies it as a Toshiba, but doesn't send any audio or video signals to the TV.

I just got my macbook about 2 days ago I turned it off once and updated the software on it and when I turned it back on the trackpad stopped working. The pointer works when I use a USB mouse.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have owned my MacBook Pro for about 3 years and just a couple of weeks ago the trackpad stopped working when I clicked on it. I can still use it by finger touch but I can no longer left or right click on it. I have been using a mouse for the past week so that I can right click.

The zooming function on the trackpad stopped working on my Mac Air OSX 10.9.3. I've already checked the trackpad preferences to make sure I didn't inadvertently alter something. It worked fine in the morning then when I woke my computer in the afternoon the zoom no longer worked. I use this function constantly so I hope something is not broken.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.
Suddenly command-W has stopped working on my system (OS X 10.6.4, iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo). Instead of closing the current window or browser tab, it takes me to the Finder. I have tried rebooting, but it did not fix it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a network with an Airport Extreme Base Station. I have two Macs connected by ethernet and an Iomega MiniMax hard drive connected to the base station by USB port. I have been running two printers, an HP Laserjet 1012 and Samsung CLP-315, connected by USB cables to the MiniMax hub. This setup has been running fine for several months. Yesterday, with no change in cabling, the printers stopped working. If I try to print to either printer, I get a message saying, "looking for printer..." If I connect either printer directly to the base station, I get the same message. If I connect the printers directly to either computer by USB cable, they both print fine. What can I do to get my original setup back working? I have tried restarting all the various components and reconnecting all the cables. I have checked to make sure I have the latest drivers for the printers.

My blackberry gets my email fine, as does Evolution on Ubuntu 10.04. This has been on going for about a week and I've even archived any messages that have lots of pictures in them. Still no luck.
Mail is working with my other google apps accounts for about four different domains but _not_ with my [URL] account.
