I bought 160GB X25G2 only to realize (later) that my MBP17 SATA is indeed limited to 1.5Gb so it made me think - shouln'd I utilize this Intel in my i7 iMac and get some cheaper slower SSD for my MBP? If so which one?
Or is the read speed only half of benefits of SSD and the access time and write management being the other part? (I read about some issues with jmicron controllers etc.)
I think I have to give a brief history of my Mac life first. I previously owned the last generation iBook, then a MacBook (entry-level) 3rd gen before I upgraded to Penryn MBP this April.
I bought the MBP because I fell in love with the keyboard when I got to try the display unit in one of the Apple resellers here (I am from Manila, btw) so I sold my MacBook then upgraded to the Penryn MBP (entrylevel - 2.4ghz, 15inch).
why does empty waste display as N201, and hard disk show as SD5, SD7, SD8?Also Skype not able to open, unexpectedly quit?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI originally purchased a SR MBP a couple weeks ago and come to find out, the LCD was bad and Apple declared it DOA. I went to the Apple store and swapped it out for a new 2.4GHz Penryn MBP. I am running Vista via bootcamp and am noticing a high pitched whine coming from the top left hand side of the keyboard, near the LCD. Puzzled as to the cause, I started playing with some controls to see if anything made a difference and noticed that when I dim the LCD to the min, it almost goes away. When I turn off the LCD it does in fact go away and when I increase it to maximum brightness it also vanishes. The noise seems to be the loudest when the LCD brightness is set in the middle. This problem only occurs in Vista, not OSX. I thoroughly toyed with the brightness in OSX and listed carefully, but like I said, not noise is present.
Should I be concerned and call Apple, or just ride it out? It does bother me a bit considering I use Vista for Office 2007 tasks. However, since the problem only occurs in Vista and not OSX, it this indicative of a software issue, or do you guys think it is hardware related? cmm26red

I know little things like the battery connector and the inverter board connector change from removing so many of these boards, but I never kept good documentation of the connector types between the different boards.
I am totally fine with this not being the same specs as it was before, it will still be a nice machine, but I don't feel like spending $500 on a logic board for it.
I have a White MacBook (13-inch Early 2008 model A1181) Penryn 2.4Ghz. The current logic board in there is Apple part# 820-2279-A. Is a late 2007 Santa Rosa 2.2Ghz board (with the same part number 820-2279-A) a direct swap for the Penryn board?

View 24 Replies View RelatedThinking that the contents of Finder's images folder were merely a history of images accessed, I placed the entire contents (2,020 images) of the folder into the waste bin. I realized my error upon opening my photos folder and seeing that no photos appeared.
Is there a way to reverse that transfer of images into the waste bin?
I couldn't highlight and move all the waste bin contents back into the images folder, so I tried moving just one image from the waste bin into the folder, but without success.
this is getting highly frustrating, I first used a 'copy' of XP SP2, tried all the drivers, boot camp, nvidia, omega and the beta from guru3d and making sure each install is clean. And i've yet to see one frame of gameplay from demos of Crysis, The Club and Kayne & Lynch. Crysis would hard crash just before you parachute out, and the sound would divert to the internal speaker and just keep stuttering.
When using the 2600XT everything is fine, so its definately the card/drivers.
Then i went out and brought a copy of Vista 64-bit (not as bad as i thought it would be btw), and now i can't even get past the opening text of the crysis demo without experiencing a serious crash.
I'm so glad i didn't custom build my mac pro with the 8800GT, i would have had to wait all that time just to find its pretty much useless for games, and it seems the 2600XT actually performs better with Final Cut Studio... apart from having an extra graphics card i'm finding it hard to see why i should keep this card, it seems like a complete waste of time, unless some better drivers come out at some point.
From what i've read on the net it seems i'm not the only one experiencing this, most are lucky to experience gameplay only to experience a crash after a few minutes. Has anyone been able to play games successfully with the 8800GT and if so what did you do?

OS X 10.4.3 IMAC Intel Core Duo. I backed up my HD on an external drive so I could upgrade to Snow Leopard. I wanted to test that I could boot from the external drive and selected it as my start up drive. When I did a restart I got the Apple and the turning gear and then suddenly a black screen with this on it:
"May 28 22:23:11 Launched:com.apple.nibindd:respawning too quickly throttling, exited system abnormally bad system call too many failures in succession I have no name!"
I tried several dozen times with no luck. I think when I made the copy of my HD on the external HD I may have neglected to make it "bootable" (moving too quickly). My internal CDROM is busted so I use an external CDROM. I can't boot from it at all with the proper start up buttons pushed. It keeps trying to boot from the external drive. If I turn the external drive off and try to boot from the external CD I just get the grey file with the ? in the middle of it.
I tried using another external HD I have with OS 10.4 on it, but it won't recognize it either with fan, alt, shift, delete pressed at start up. My internal drive (a Seagate 2 tarabite drive) works great, but how do I reset it as the start up drive when I'm stuck with this black screen. One more thing, when I try to reset PRAM I don't get a second gong.

After connecting the imac to a new router the system hung completely up. After each input, e.g. opening preview or a browser, the coloured turning disc appeared and nothing happened anymore. Several restarts, also in safe mode, were unsuccessful. I could not switch to another user. Restart is only possible at all from installation disc but thereafter problem remains the same.

My iMac was working perfectly till two days ago, I shut it down normally, but haven't been able to start it since then. When I press the start button I can hear the HD and fans working, and also the USB ports are powered, but screen keeps black and no boot tone.
