MacBook Pro :: Increasing Shared VRAM On Intel HD Graphics 3000?
May 22, 2012
Question about MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011) with Intel HD Graphics 3000. I upgraded RAM with 16GB, and wonder if it is possible to allocate more then 512 MB of system memory for shared VRAM. Now system profiler shows 512 MB shared VRAM, the same like it was with 8 GB RAM before the RAM upgrade. Â
"About integrated video on Intel-based Macs" topic [URL] mentions MBPs with 8 GB of RAM only. Â
come aumentare vram imac con amd radeon hd 6750m 512 mb gddr5? adesso ho vram tot 512 mb ma vedendo sul sito apple ho visto che può arrivare fino a 2 gb di vram
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), scheda video amd radeon hd 6750m gd
I am considering buying a Macbook Air (June 2012 13" with i7-3667U CPU and the 4000 HD on-chip GPU) as it fits most my requirements. I occasionally like to play games and it seems that this graphics processor should be enough, but the question is how much memory can it use from the main memory and if the maximum amount can be changed. Â
More specifially I am loking at the requirements of ANNO 2070Â (as this is the kind of game I really like) and even though it has been known to perform ok with that GPU, the minimum requirements would be 512MB of video ram (on low or medium settings). The previous MBA was only able to use ~350MB of the main memory if I understand correctly.
1. What is the limit of memory the GPU can use form the main memory?Â
2. Is it user configurable under OSX?Â
3. Is it user configurable under Windows when bootcamping?Â
4. Is it "somehow" (unsupported software-only method) configurable?Â
5. Is the game ANNO 2070 playable under Windows (AFAIK using bootcamp is the only way to play it currently) on a new (June 2012) MBA?Â
If I use the mini display to DVI to connect to a projector, it will work if the displays are mirrored, but if I extend the display, where the projector has a higher resolution, the projector display will have artifacts, noise, and if it has a lot of pictures or videos on the screen, the display sometimes stops working. Even if i set the display resolution to match the same as the laptop, I still get noise and artifacts unless I mirror the displays.
Then if I true to use the mini port VGA to the same projector but Windows won't recognize the projector. I've seen several reports about this. I have the latest Intel graphics driver and my bootcamp partition is running Windows 7, fully updated and patched.
Lastly, this seems to only happen with my MBA with the Intel HD 3000 graphics. I have another MBA with the Nvidia 300M and the mini port to DVI works fine.
My Dell printer CN 3000 is not printing any colour with my I Mac, I understand I may need to download something to erase this problem. Can somebody point me in the right direction for the appropriate download.
I was very keen on hearing that you can distribute a part of your memory (Ram) to the integrated HD graphics. I upgraded from 4 gb to 8gb and my vram increased automatically from 384Mb to 512Mb. If this is possible Could i use more of the ram as Vram ?

I recently downloaded the fan speed app which allows you to control fan speed. I just uninstalled it and the fan speed seems to be higher than before. The Temperature is around 110 F and 3000 rpm. Is this normal?
I am using 13 inch MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM and 512mb of VRAM. Is there any way to increase the VRAM? if yes how to change VRAM settings and also this is advicable to change?
what will the difference be on the high res screen with the 256mb vs 512mb vram? this includes gaming, daily tasks, and movie watching (includes HD movies)
The Gateway has everything that I could think of for a monitor, but I have heard good things from some posts and very bad things from other posts. I mean how many displays are out there that are 30" LCD with 2560x1600 that cost under $1000. The 30" ACD is of course a good choice for a monitor but it is twice as expensive just for 1 and it is also old technology.
What the heck is the difference between the integrated GFX card in the first and 2nd 15" MBP?
I can't figure it out
EDIT: Nevermind, it's not even worth figuring it out. It's a $60 difference for the higher spec'd MBP after student discount difference ($100 vs $150 off). I'll pay $60 for that
I've just upgraded my MacBook Pro 6,2 (new 15 inch i7) to 8GB of RAM *Cas 7 PC-8500 DDR3-1066 from Mushkin). It works fine, has passed all of the Rember tests but seems to have some kind of conflict with the Intel integrated graphics card. As soon as I'm running off shared Video RAM I get terrible tearing and static on my screen. When I switch over to the nVidia discrete graphics everything works fine.
The strangest part is that once the computer has been awake and running for a few minutes everything seems to settle in and work properly. Doesn't seem to matter how many times I restart or clear the Parameter RAM. Every restart or wake from sleep throws the integrated graphics into hysteria.
When I send a file from my XP workstation to the Canon LBP-3000 printer connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station I get the following XP Incorrect port message: "The port to which the printer is connected is not supported. Check the port."
I am trying to use a Canon LBP-3000 printer that is connected to the USB port on my Airport Extreme Base Station from a computer running Windows XP. The AEB is connected to an ethernet port on the same XP computer.
I have installed the latest LBP-3000 printer driver from the Canon .au website.
The TCP/IP port settings have been set up as follows:
Port name: IP_10.0.1.1 IP address: 10.0.1.1 Protocol: Raw Raw settings port no: 9100
Note that the printer works normally when connected as a local printer via a USB port on the XP host.
I am running Windows XP Home version 2002 SP3 The printer driver is titled "Canon Advanced Printing Technology for Canon LBP3000 R1.12 Ver.3.02.0.005 (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista)"
The AEB firmware version is 7.5.1
Note that I am able to print via the AEB/USB to my Epson Stylus printer using the exact same setup as above (except for the printer driver).
Have just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, but I can no longer access the print driver for our EPSON Stylus Color 3000 using the Epson StylusRIP. I can see the RIP server ok and it has installed as a printer. However neither of the two PPDs it finds (Gutenprint v5.1.3 and Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2) work...I think these are the native drivers rather than Postscript!
I have a copy of the PPD from the 10.4 installation (EPSON StylusCOLOR3000 v3010.106) but cannot install it. Regardless of where I put it when I try and select it with Driver>Other, it is always greyed out even though all the other PPDs are ok. Have even tried compressing it into a .gz file but it is still greyed out.
The only difference I can see is the file permissions, all the other .gz files have a Read&write permission for both "System" and "Admin", whereas my driver doesn't. However I can find no way to assign these users to my PPD file. This of course may be completely irrevelant. In fact if I copy my PPD to the desktop plus some of the other gz files from Library>Printers>PPDs>Contents>Resources, they lose the System and Admion users, yet I can still select those drivers but not mine!
anantech reports on Intel's graphics card statement posted yesterday which notes that there will be no Intel discrete GPU (duh) in the short term and that Intel is focusing with "laser like precision" on integrated graphics. Not too much here, except that it indicates that Intel will be sticking to their own integrated graphics strategy for the long haul. As the author notes, it also validates AMD's approach with ATI.The article says to expect a 2x improvement over current Intel graphics for the early 2011 chips, and another 2x for the following chips.
I'm honing in on the purchase of a powerbook. One area that has me a bit confused is the screen resolution of the 15" models. I can see two models that look identical in specs (apart from one having 128Mb of VRAM and the other 64. both are 9700 cards). Anyway one ad says it is 1280x854 widescreen and the other says it is 1440x960 widescreen. I can see these are the same proportions and maybe the 1280x854 can be set at 1440x960. The 1440 one is about 6 months old and the other one is about a year older so maybe some specs were changed. My question is, are these two different resolutions meant to be the native resolution on each machine respectively? Or do they both have the same native resolution and are just set up differently.
I have a Mac Pro Mid 2010 with the ATI Radeon HD 5770 card. I have been running photoshop with this setup for a few years now with no problems. Yesterday however I received a message that my computer that I had less than 512MB of VRAM available (I should have closer to 1GB). I am not sure what the problem is. I have tried reseting the computer and PRAM. I have also updated the OS to 10.9.4 and didn't know if this may be the problem? My comp specs are below.
Hardware Overview:  Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro5,1 Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz Number of Processors: 2 Total Number of Cores: 8 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache (per Processor): 12 MB Memory: 32 GBÂ
A couple of months ago I was at the head office and connected to the in house Wifi. When I did, a bunch of shared drives or folders showed in my finder under "Shared". I figured no biggie, when I got away from the head office they'd go away. But they didn't. And I can't figure out how to get rid of them.See attached photo.
I purchased a Macbook Pro 15" i7 last month, and since doing the migration (using the migration utility) from my old black macbook my graphics are stuck on the Nvidia graphics and is not switching to the Intel HD graphics. This is eating battery power like no tomorrow.
My new MBP 2010 won't use Intel HD graphics, it seems stuck on the 330M graphics card with no programs running at all. I also checked the power saver option for auto-switching graphics.. What to do?
It worked before I calibrated the battery, but today when using the MBP for the first time since calibrating it won't switch.
I am thinking of getting te macbook Pro after having used one last week. I am completely in love with the OS.But things about the specs worry me. I am just asking to those who use Macbook Pro's whether the specs these laptops have are enough. I do a lot of video editing, mostly 3D animations and a lot of photoshop, along with some 3D rendering. I was wondering if the Intel's 3000HD graphics card in the 13 inch MBP will be enough for all this.
I'm having my pb repaired from my casing warping. I brought it and the and they agreed to fix it. He ordered the parts and said when they arrive they would call me to bring it in. I guess they could do it at the store ( )i'm surprized it wasn't sent out. ne woot on the order sheet it says "Board, Logic, 1.5 GHz 64MB VAM". Now my question is I did a BTO and upgraded the VRAM to 128. Did he order the wrong part? Will it still work?
