I just updated my late 2008 Macbook Pro to EFI Firmware v1.8, and am finding that suddenly my Firewire audio interface can't play a single thing without crackling, even in simple programs like Media Player, on my Boot Camp partition.
Using firmware version 1.7, everything was just fine. How does one roll back to an earlier firmware version? Does it have to be done by an Apple Tech?
I need to roll back for AVID Media Composer 6 to work correctly. What steps do I take? I currently have 10.7.4.

I've had multiple kernel panics since I updated to 10.7.4. I visited the Genius Bar yesterday and follwed their advice to do a reinstall of Lion. It reinstalled 10.7.4 and I've continued to have kernel panics. From looking through discussions, it appears to be an unresolved issue with 10.7.4 and the concensus is to roll back to 10.7.3. Can someone walk me through the process of doing so?
I do back up to a Time Machine/Capsule, which I actually suspect as being part of the problem...it doesn't seem to be working well since I updated to 10.7.4. However, it reports a back up from yesterday which would be before the reinstall but would still be 10.7.4. The strange thing is that is reports "none" for oldest backup and appears to do nothing when I click on 'enter time machine'.

I'm going to install the 10.5.8 update as it looks like it will fix a couple of issues I would have had with 10.5.7 that prevented me installing it, which is why I'm still on 10.5.6. In case it doesn't work and I do experience the issues, I want to be able to rewind back to where I was, 10.5.6. Is it as simple as picking the TM backup prior to the install and clicking 'restore' - should that manage system files as well? I'll also do a CCC backup to an external disk.

View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?
Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.
Intel X25-M 160GB, how do I find out if it has the latest firmware v1.5 from Dec 8, 2009. And is the Solid State Drive Toolbox v1.3 from Mar 22, 1010 worth downloading?Intel's download/support page doesn't tell you how to know if your SSD has the latest firmware or not.

Right-clicking or double clicking the title bar in OS9 would result in the window rolling up, showing only the title bar. It's great for reducing screen clutter while still keeping the windows on the desktop (not hidden into the dock).

After reading these forums i see that a lot of other users have been complaining about all types of problems...Yellow tint, wifi problems, over heating...etcshould I consider myself lucky? And just be happy that its only 1 small pixel?

I know OSX has no TRIMM support yet, and there is a lot of rumbling about using the right firmware in order to increase the SSD's lifespan. I read I'll probably have to use Windows in order to update the firmware in OCZ SSD's. Can anyone tell me, how I can check the firmware version of the SSD using OSX ? Can it be done, or do you need Windows for this as well ?? I have no idea what firmware it runs, so there is no way to know if it needs updating.

I have had a problem with this EFI frimware 2.6 update, that does not seem to want to be updated.Is there a problem with my MBP or what do i need to do to be able to complete the update and get rid of it. everytime i click on software updates, i see this update still there even though i installed it many times, however, its still there. This could only mean one thing either it did not install or there is an error with the software update reporting that its still not updated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter the update, my MacBook Pro is extermely sluggish. Prior to the update, I was zipping along like most happy MacBook Pro owners. After the update, I constantly see the dreaded beach ball when doing almost anything with the laptop, Safari pages take longer to load, etc.
It's almost as if the udpate had the opposite effect and actually throttled down my WD 500GB HDD performance to a large degree.
Like I said, prior to the update all was good. I've been searching to see if there is a way to revert back to the previous firmware to validate that the update caused the problem but I haven't been successfull in finding anything yet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I'm still having trouble with the MacBook I posted about here. It kernel panics even more frequently now, a month later, about once every 30 minutes. I'm running 10.5.8 now (no Snow Leopard for me!).
Anyway, the problem I'm posting about is that I can't boot into Open Firmware. It works fine just booting straight through to OS X (except about a third of the time I start up it kernel panics right after the Apple logo appears) but it won't boot into Open Firmware. I hold down Command-Option-O-F to no avail and it just won't go. (I'm trying to do reset-all to see if that helps any.)
I tried booting into Open Firmware successfully on my other Mac so it's nothing I'm doing, this MacBook obviously has some serious issues.
I'd rather not have to take this computer to the Apple Store again - every time I do they just reinstall the system/replace the hard drive and don't take me seriously when I say the problem is not with software. (Plus the warranty on this machine is up now and I'm trying to avoid paying hundreds of dollars!)
Anyone know what the issue could be? i really need a new computer hahaha...
Oh! I also tried booting into Open Firmware by holding down the power button continuously as suggested here... the on/off light blinked 3-4 times, the computer made a really long beep (like I was trying to do a firmware update), then started as normally. So I don't think that worked either lol.
I finished building this macbook out of lots of parts. The Logic Board is a 2.0GHZ Core duo and it has 1.5GB RAM. Sometimes when I open the lid it restarts from a black screen. And I can't install the Firmware because of "An Unexpected Error occurred your firmware could not be updated (0)".

I checked for any additional updates to see if it will go away, but I seem to have all the updates. Is there anything I should do to get rid of this pop up? Pop-up window reads: your computer's firmware is up to date with version 1.8 of the macbook pro EFI firmware update.
