MacBook :: Firmware Could Not Be Updated Error
Dec 3, 2009
I finished building this macbook out of lots of parts. The Logic Board is a 2.0GHZ Core duo and it has 1.5GB RAM. Sometimes when I open the lid it restarts from a black screen. And I can't install the Firmware because of "An Unexpected Error occurred your firmware could not be updated (0)".

I have a mid 2007 white 17" iMac, a mid 2007 mac mini, a late 2007 20" Aluminum iMac, and a late 2009 13.3" MBP. How can I tell if all of these computers have the latest firmware updates on them? If I simply do the software updates will that update the firmware?

Intel X25-M 160GB, how do I find out if it has the latest firmware v1.5 from Dec 8, 2009. And is the Solid State Drive Toolbox v1.3 from Mar 22, 1010 worth downloading?Intel's download/support page doesn't tell you how to know if your SSD has the latest firmware or not.

I was travelling and added a firmware password a few months back, I now want to disable this to install Ubuntu on a partition of my MacBook - but there are no directions how to in the utility.I looked at the Apple doc I originally used to set the password: [URL]/HT1352, and I cannot find a companion document for taking it off. So, if anyone knows how I go about doing this,

My MacPro keeps having kernel panic (4x in a week, then none in almost 2 weeks, then comes back again today) even when everything is updated. And I recognize that I always get the kernel panic only when I visit this one website where I usually go to stream an online movie. What could be wrong with my Mac? Is there a way to stop and/or prevent future kernel panic attack?

Stuck on screen with apple logo. No curser, nothing.
Last try got stuck on a blue screen that alternated tones of blue every few seconds. Was able to start up in safe mode ( held shift). Finder loaded after a loooong wait. Once there I used Disc Diet to empty caches- this usually help to get rid of the rolling beach ball. Wasn't able to do much at all- all with rolling beach ball. Restarted without shift key- stuck on apple.
Should I uninstall Safari?

When I click on my Firefox icon now, it brings up the window to choose safe mode or reset. It won't do anything in either.
I have re-started many times. I have shut down and restarted. Nothing is working!
I have no menu bar, no availability to pull down from anything. Just the spinning wheel.
Firefox is my default browser and I have many tabs and open windows I would love to access.

I just updated to Final Cut Pro X 10.1.3. FCPX is not responding. It has the spinning wheel going. Now it is not functioning at all!
In the Activity Monitor it shows 2 programs as "(Not Responding)" Those are: Final Cut Pro and Codec32BitTool.
When I open the FCPX program, it seems that the spinning wheel starts as soon as I try to preview a clip. I have tried using new projects, projects updated from 10.1.2, and I have also tried with a new user. All have the same result. Not responding!!!
If only I had not updated some critical projects to 10.1.3, or I would simply revert back to 10.1.2.
I am using a 2011 Mac Pro, 16GB RAM
Info:
Final Cut Pro X, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

SSD bandwagon, and have a question. I bought a 2.5" Vertex 2 60GB, which seems to be doing very well in all the benchmarks. I know OSX has no TRIMM support yet, and there is a lot of rumbling about using the right firmware in order to increase the SSD's lifespan. I read I'll probably have to use Windows in order to update the firmware in OCZ SSD's. Can anyone tell me, how I can check the firmware version of the SSD using OSX ? Can it be done, or do you need Windows for this as well ?? I have no idea what firmware it runs, so there is no way to know if it needs updating.

Just got this through Software Update. More info here:
[URL]
Quote:
About MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.8 This update eliminates the noise made by the optical disk drive during system startup and wake from sleep on MacBook Pro computers. When installation is complete, run Software Update again, and install SuperDrive Firmware Update 3.0
To complete the firmware update process, follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.app). The updater will launch automatically when the installation is complete.

I have had a problem with this EFI frimware 2.6 update, that does not seem to want to be updated. Is there a problem with my MBP or what do i need to do to be able to complete the update and get rid of it. everytime i click on software updates, i see this update still there even though i installed it many times, however, its still there. This could only mean one thing either it did not install or there is an error with the software update reporting that its still not updated.

Yesterday, I was prompted to instal a software update, which I did. Everything seemed fine and I closed (did not turn off) my macbook. Today, when I opened my laptop, everything was frozen. I force quit. Turning my laptop back on, I get a gray screen with a blinking floder with a question mark. When I try to follow the instructions from the Apple support page for this issue, it doesn't work - it seems like there are no startup disks on my computer at all. I have a month's worth of data I can't lose. I'm not sure what operating system I have (I realize I sound completely incompetent). I bought my laptop at the end of December 2011; it's OS X Lion, but beyond that, I'm not sure).
