OS X :: Any Way To Recover Overwritten TIFF File?
Aug 4, 2010I accidentally overwrote a TIFF file, downsizing the original to 900x600. Through back-up all copies on the two back-up drives are equally overwritten. I have not set up time machine, so going back the timeline is not an option. Is it possible to restore the overwritten file without the help of a professional recovery service?

Jul 5, 2012I've subscribed to a web-based service that allows me to view court documents online, but QuickTime won't let me view anything more than the first page of these tiff files. The regular version of QuickTime won't allow me to view multiple pages, even if I do uncheck tiff files in the settings. I'm using Google Chrome, but I can't seem to find a good plugin to view multiple tiff pages. The only way I can view multiple pages on a tiff file from this Internet program is to uninstall QuickTime. But if I do that I can't get iTunes to play. I'd go ahead and pay the $30 to upgrade to QuickTime Pro if I thought that would solve my problem, but I don't know if that will work. Does anyone know if QuickTime Pro will allow users to view multiple pages in a Tiff File?

Feb 22, 2012I'm trying to convert tiff's into jpeg's and have tried two methods that DON'T WORK. I tried dragging them into iPhoto but a window comes up saying it doesn't recognize the file and 2) tried opening in Preview to "Save as" but the pic won't even open up in Preview.

Then if I want to put them into Word some can be placed in Word by going to Insert and then choosing picture but some that doesn't work with, I just get an error message saying that doc can't be put into Word. What do I do, what do I need? Browsers I use: Firefox and Safari.

Feb 13, 2009As some of you may already know, I recently switched to the mac platform. One of my main reasons for switching was the fact that I couldn't see more than 50 percent of the graphics used by my colleagues and mentors in case presentations due to the dreaded "quicktime tiff decompressor" issues present in Windows. After numerous efforts of trying to resolve this issue on the Mac end, I gave up and ended up getting a Mac, to hopefully not experience the same issue. Obviously, I have realized that the mac has a lot more to offer, in the process.
However, here is my problem - I am getting the following error "Quicktime or a TIFF decompressor is needed to view this image" in Powerpoint 2008 in Mac OS X. I didn't expect this at all, and I was hoping that there may be a fix to it. I tried copying and pasting the image into word and that doesn't resolve the problem either. I tried opening up the presentation in Keynote 2009 but that doesn't seem to load these graphics either. Is there any photo application that I can use to test the picture? If any of you know how to resolve this issue, I will be very grateful for your advice. Again, I am new to the Mac OS platform so I would appreciate if your solutions included "baby steps"

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Why Does Preview Turn .tiff Images Black When Rotate Them
Apr 23, 2012I just scanned some negatives (about a 3 hour endeavor) and when I rotated some of the images in TIFF format in Preview, there is a pause as it loads in the information, and then the photo turns black. I tried running it in Photoshop and the images are still black. Is it because the file size is too large so preview decides to throw away all of the information? Are there any ways to get these photos back?

Whenever I wanted to change my desktop background, it would change immediately no problem but once I shut down or restarted my mac, it would revert back to the original background. Somewhere I read that by deleting com.apple.desktop.plist this problem could be solved. I did that and bingo it solved the problem! But since I am a newbie i would like to know is it fine to do so and what (if any) effects it could have on my mac?

In the process of adding a PCI SCSI card I updated to OS 8.6 (ultimately unnecessary) and DP no longer runs any longer than about 7 measures. I believe it has to do with the Sound Manager that I understand is built into System 8. I have saved both OS 8.6 and 8.5.1 System Folders but cannot get the PPC 8600 to bless anything but 8.6.

The problem is, we are in Costa Rica, on vacation, right now and he thought we had a copy of Windows, but we don't! So now the MacBook boot up to a DOS screen saying, "No bootable devise -- insert boot disk and press any key." And of course I don't have a bootable devise. Is there anyway to revert back to windows? I have tried holding down the escape key which then gives me the same message about the bootable devise, over and over.

The ability to restrict it to certain apps and expand windows individually is great, but the windows are laid out much less efficiently over the screen. It's neater looking, I suppose, but the window contents are harder to see at a glance.

It seems alot of people on here (me included) think that Snow Leopard has effectively ruined the functionality of expose with the new way it arranges windows. I barely use it now since it is much harder to find what I am looking for. For instance, my "downloads" menu from safari is now larger than some of the safari windows themselves! The question: Is there anyway, hacks or otherwise, to revert to the old style of expose?

Sep 24, 2009i've decided that I absolutely hate everything about the QuickTime X plugin that comes in Snow Leopard. It seems to only show up when playing certain types of media (MP3, H.264), but I'd like to know if there's a way to use the old plugin for everything.
There are no words for how much I hate this thing. The back 30 seconds button looks stupid and is largely useless, the bar looks really fat and the play button is huge. More importantly, I can't change playback speed, and the "Save As..." feature is gone. I paid for the Pro version of this plugin and now Apple has rendered it useless for everything but straightforward playback on a good deal of the files I encounter daily.
Does anyone know of some way to force everything to open with the old plugin? I've thought of switching /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin with the old one from Leopard, but I don't have it anymore and I'm not even convinced that this would work.

I changed it to do nothing and it does nothing, but when I go back to autoimport, with or without the delete after import box checked, it still does it!
