Dec 31, 2009My MBP has this issue every once in a while where I have to hold the power button and force shut down. Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. Everything still works though (can still function in open applications) Anyone know what the problem is? It fixes when I force reset.

Apr 17, 2009So the internal microphone on my 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro just decided to stop working a few months ago. In the sound tab of system preferences I get nothing. Although when Skyping with it, the person I'm talking to says they can hear some kind of noise when I tap the left speaker (where I assume the mic is at.) I didn't use it all that much but it was pretty handy for when I needed to record a spontaneous song with my guitar. It had rather good quality.

May 13, 2012My TV works fine until I hook up my MBP. Great live stream picture, but we lose sound.
TV is a Panasonic widescreen, only 3 or 4 yrs old. MBP is not even 2 yrs. old. Using DVi to HDMI plug to HDMI cable to Router. We solved this in the past, but can't remember how we fixed it!

OS X :: Time Machine Not Working / Backup Is Too Large For The Backup Volume
May 23, 2009Well TM is acting up. I get an error that reads: "This backup is too large for the backup volume."
Both the internal boot disk and the external baclup drive are 1TB. The internal one has a two partitions, the OSX one that is 900GBs and a 32GB NTFS one for Boot Camp. The external drive is a single OSX Extended part. that is 932GBs.
Both the Time Machine disk, and the Boot Camp disk are excluded from the backup along with a "Crap" folder for temporary large files.
Time Machine says it needs 938GBs to backup only the OSX disk, which has 806GBs in use with the rest free. WTFFF?
This happened after moving a large folder (128GB in total) from the root of the OSX disk over to my Home Folder.
I have reformated the Time Machine drive and have no backups at all of my data and it refuses to backup!!
Why would it need 938GBs of space to backup if the disk has "only" 806 GBs in use??? Is there anyway to reset Time Machine completely???

Dec 17, 2009OX 10.4.11. Screen freezes when I stop working on computer. Usually can happen anywhere from 5 minutes to hours after I leave and come back. It doesnt happen when I'm working on computer and it doesnt seem to matter what programs I leave open. Ive tried zapping the pram...disabling the screensaver..I did an archive and install of the operating sysem (actually surprized myself by doing that one ) Ive run a disk utility and hardware check.. My computer is running a lot faster now, but it still has frozen up and needs to be restarted by holding down the button for a few seconds.

Mar 17, 2012I spilled a bit of milk on my computer this morning and managed to move fast enough to drain most of it. I turned the computer off, and on again, just to make sure that it was running. (I know now I shouldn't have...) I was able to log in, etc. My trackpad was going a bit wonkers, but it's done that before, so I wasn't worried. Turned it off, flipped it over, set it aside.
A number of hours later, I turned it on again, and now the keys from A-L (ASDFGHJKL) and T-O (TYUIO) aren't working. I require a password, so now I can't log in. I noticed also that some key types non-stop (in the password box) until I press delete, which stops the typing. I've taken off a number of keys and cleaned them, but even if I press the squishy thing underneath, the keys aforementioned don't type.
Can someone tell me what I can do, if anything, manually before I get an external keyboard? (I won't be going into Apple -- not interested in spending a few hundred+ for cleaning/fixing; my warranty's run itself out.)
And, as a side question: I'm not sure if my Bluetooth is on. What do I have to do to be able to connect a wireless keyboard? Or do I need to get one with a USB? Or, because I'm logged out, am I completely screwed?

Dec 20, 2009Sometimes while using computer, the entire keyboard and trackpad suddenly go completely unresponsive and I can't do anything. The only button that works is the power button. It's so annoying because I have to do an emergency shutdown and I hate doing that. Is there any relief?

This requires that I reset the PMU, which is kind of annoying. Then it works for a few weeks and the cycle of iSight begins again. Why does this happen? It seems pretty trivial to consistently recognize a camera which is wired into my computer. Is there something I could do to prevent this from happening again? I have tried turning it on and off again. And currently, this article is linking to the reset instructions for Intel iMac instead of the Macbook Pro page...

Aug 30, 2010After only my safari didn't work anymore now i've got internet again because of firefox but now all the apple programs such as iphoto, ibooth, itunes and pages etc. stopped working! When i try to open them i get the message 'the program quit unexpectedly' (translated from dutch) I think this is because i installed an older software version over a new one, but if this is the case, how do i fix it?
I if go to the apple sign and click there on software update that program shuts down too!

Nov 7, 2010Before I go into detail I have a Late 2008 Macbook White (Upgraded to 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD) so I would have had it two years this Christmas (2010) Over the last few months, on odd occasions the bottom row of keys completely stop working (by bottom row of keys I mean: Z X C V B N M < > ? and then fn ctrl alt and CMD on the row below. The space bar and right CMD work perfectly as does every other key on the keyboard.
Now this is where it gets really weird. I always thought this was a hardware issue (Loose ribbon connection etc, I just don't have the hours in the day to sit down and take it apart) until my friend gave me his old aluminium apple wireless bluetooth keyboard (the laptop sized one). The bottom row of my keyboard broke again whilst visiting him so we set up this aluminium keyboard of mine................

Dec 18, 2008I recently have been running into problems with my Macbook Pro in that an hour or two after startup, the hot corners no longer work and command tab no longer works. That is when I try to use them nothing happens at all. The keyboard still functions normally other than that. Also, if I then try to shutdown the system appears to begin the shutdown in that my desktop icons disappear, but then the machine just sits there and will never shutdown. I am then forced to hold the power key down to force a hard shutdown. Then once I do a startup, I have my hot corners back and command tab works. Until it sits for a while and then I start the cycle over.

Jun 9, 2012Had issues with videos suddenly not working on Safari, but working on Firefox. With my limited tech skills, finally figured it out & went to Adobe and downloaded a new version of Flash and that seemed to fix it. Dont really understand why it stopped working overnight when I hadnt manually changed anything. (I always hear iphones dont play flash video so does that mean all these websites I was trying to access wouldnt work on an ios device? That seems crazy to me...It was a wide range of websites and videos)...
