MacBook Pro :: How Much Power (in Watt-hours) Does It Need To Charge
May 16, 2012
I am thinking of using a solar panel setup to charge all of me and my family's MacBook's, iPhones, iPod, and iPads, and if anyone know the approximate number of watt-hours it takes to fully charge each of those you would make me very happy

My battery doesn't last much more than a few hours during continuous web streaming, 2.) That my battery stopped charging to 100% two days ago..and 3.) Last night when I went to unplug it, the power adapter was very hot to the touch. Out of curiosity, I went and used my laser thermometer to get a temp reading of 120-128 degrees F.

I recently purchased my Macbook and I noticed that the battery power is jumping at least an hour every time I check how much battery power it has left. I wanted to know if this was normal.

The 45 watt power adapter on my 12 inch powerbook is on it's last legs. I have access to a very cheap replacement but it's a 65 watt adapter that came with the 15 & 17 inch models. Is it safe to use this as a replacement?

I have a 1.67 Ghz, 1gb ram 15inch powerbook. I need a new mains power adaptor as mine is pretty well had it. I've looked around on the web and am not sure if I need a 45watt or 65 watt adaptor. Does it make a difference? I'm based in the UK.

On a full charge at 99% while surfing on firefox using airport with the brightness turned down to the last light and the keypad light turned all the way down it says there's around 4 hours left and as of this typing im at 87% with 3:37 left. Ok this is no where near the battery life im expecting as a matter of fact this is an average battery life and a main reason why I bought the macbook pro was the "8 hours" of battery life. Is the time not consistent with the percentage or am i really running that low on battery life? What gives? Could it be that im splitting harddrives with boot camp? Im not running it right now but i have vista installed.

I just got this 13-inch MacBook Pro on Friday. Everything I've read absolutely raves about the battery life. However, I only get about 2 hours per charge; I got waaaaay longer on my year-old MacBook I just sold. I have Firefox and Pages running, but nothing else. Am I doing something wrong?

I've tried two brand new adapters and neither work after my MBP is unplugged for a few hours and then plugged back in. Eventually it'll work again, but occasionally it doesn't acknowledge the power source. Will AppleCare cover this?

I just ran my battery down last night and left it over night to re-calibrate. I plugged it back in at 11am and it's now 5pm and I'm still showing a half hour to finish the charge. That's nearly 7 hours to fully charge the battery. Madness. Is this normal or is this worthy of a visit to the Apple Store?

Late 2008 refurb Macbook Pro, 2.53ghz, Windows 7 RC (therefore forced to use the 9600 at all times). According to this report, the MBP got around 3&1/2hrs of run time with a dimmed screen and watching videos. From a full charge, I start browsing the internet (no videos at all), and my battery reading read as follows
91% 1hr, 16mins
90% 1hr, 20mins
89% 1hr, 24mins
87% 1hr, 23mins
Not only were the readings all over the place, but even from a full near charge I wasn't even getting an estimate of 2hrs, while Apple advertised 4 for the late 2008 model, and the review I linked to says they got 3&1/2. Do I have a bad battery, or does simply running the 9600 reduce the battery life by such a drastic amount? I have already calibrated my battery following the guide on the Apple website.

I took my macbook pro to get a new battery at the genius bar after it stopped holding charge, turned off unexpectedly, and would get really hot. After getting the battery, I calibrated it right away by draining the battery, letting it sit for five hours, and then charging it. The new battery only holds 2 hours at 100% charge. Is the replacement a dud or something else wrong?

For the past three hours (during which I've been doing some light web surfing (no Flash), text editing, and FTPing, with the screen on low brightness -- definitely not energy-intensive stuff -- my battery indicator has been showing it charging with 22 min remaining. Why the heck would that happen?

I have a 2008 Macbook and when the power is plugged in, the light is green, however my battery will not charge, and it even says at the top "battery is not charging" If I remove the power cord from the computer it will still run off the remaining % of the battery, but If I reconnect the cord it lights up green and I never see the amber charging color. I traded out my battery as well as a different cord and still the same results. My battery will charge up on a friends macbook, but not on my own. I want to take it to the apple store but I'm at school and there is no store near me.

According to coconut battery, it says that my macbook pro 13" 2010 has a battery capacity of 5818 mah with the original capacity of 5770mah. It's only a few days old. Is that normal? I thought these were supposed to have 63.5 watt hour batteries.

Having an issue charging my mac. When I plug the charger into my mac, it turns orange, so I know its charging, but no matter how long I leave it in for it never has enough power to turn on.
If I move the charger around slightly at an angel in the hole it turns green and only then will it turn on, but the moment the green light goes back to orange the laptop turns off.
When I do manage to get it turned on, it says there is 0% battery.
I've tried using different chargers so could the problem be with the connector in the laptop?

im looking for an application that will allow to charge the macbook automatically when the battery is down. so although the charger will be in the power input the laptop will not charge but only if its batter runs down.
this way there will be less power used since the laptop will charge only when it needs to

well it does charge just not how it should. when i plug the ibook into the power adapter usually nothing happens. i have to jiggle the plug in just the right way to get it to charge and this involves putting pressure on it in some direction. it has gotten worse so now i have to have constant pressure on it for it to charge. i have tried 2 different chargers so i know its not that. i was thinking maybe the DC board but i was not sure.

Basically I'm having issues with my newly acquired Powerbook G4. When i bought it the battery was not working at all so have now installed a new replacememnnt battery which works fine but having some slight issues. So...
First time I charged it, it reached 100% but green light never came on to indicate full charge. When I run the PB off the battery it gets to 20% and it shuts down without any warning it's low on battery (trying to switch it on after this is impossible, it clearly has no life) After the above I connect the power lead and start up the computer, the battery indicator starts charging from 20% onwards. Something fishy definitely going on and I have no idea what it could be, I calibrated the battery but it has always cut off at 20% since first charge/discharge.

I have a 1.67 GHz Powerbook G4. This morning it was fine. When I got home from work, it decided that it suddenly no longer wants to stay on when not plugged in. The battery is showing a full charge. The light on the plug is green. But the second I unplug the cord from the laptop, the entire thing shuts down.

I have a MacBook. It's 4 or 5 years old. I downloaded an older version of Handbrake so I could transfer some of my dvds to my Ipod Touch. The newest version didn't work. The first step didn't take too long, but the second step (I think it was Rip) is another story. When I clicked the Rip button, it said that it would take more than 25 hours to Rip. I left it running for 5 hours and it was not even one quarter done. Am I doing something wrong? The dvd is only an hour long.
