May 2, 2010My Time Capsule seems to have died. If I unplug it then plug it back in, the yellow light comes on, then shuts off after about a minute... and nothing more happens. Is it truly dead?

Jun 12, 2012When laying down in in bed, holding the MBP vertically watching a movie or whatever, the screen will not stay open for the life of me. It's like the hinges are loose. When on a flat surface, the screen stays open, even if at an angle less than 45 degrees. I read there was an issue with this in 2008. I'll be visiting the Apple Store tomorrow.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Flickering And Stay Mostly White
Jan 2, 2011Almost every time I would move my Macbook Pro (I generally use it as a desktop, so move it very rarely) my screen would come on white and not show anything for an hour or so, (except a flicker or bleed of color here and there) when the image would suddenly flicker on back to normal. Now, it just stays mostly white, with lots of lines going up and down - the bit of 'color' in the lines does seem to match where windows should be on screen, but very generally, and it doesn't update in real-time, it 'refreshes' every so often. I attached a photo so you can see what I'm talking about.
I had my logic board replaced about a year ago now because of a faulty Nvidia 8600 chip (have a Santa Rosa MBP). I'm currently using an external monitor - which last time was exactly what I did when the chip started dying out and external display worked just fine then, despite the fact that the GPU couldn't drive the internal display anymore, so that's not a clear indicator that the GPU is fine. When I first started having this problem, I brought it to the Apple Store, and they ran the test on the GPU and said it was fine... but that was months back, so I don't know?
I'm thinking (hoping) this is a display cable issue and not a GPU issue. Also, if it was the display cables at fault, how much would it cost to replace the display cables? (internal LCD -seems- to work fine, backlight, etc., I think it's the connection..) Also, as a side-note, since my internal LCD is no longer working, how can I boot into Windows XP (Boot Camp) on an external monitor? It seems not to 'plug and play' at all, unfortunately, and I obviously can't get to the display settings if I can't see anything on the LCD!
MacBook Air :: Won't Stay Asleep - Black Screen And Freeze
Nov 9, 2010Been having a few huge issues with my new MBA 13".
#1 - Putting the laptop to sleep. I put the laptop to sleep and put it in the bag and at some point it wakes back up. If I don't remove it during the day by that afternoon/evening when I go to remove it the battery is at 0% and it's fully discharged. One day I took it out a couple hours in and the fan was blowing like mad like it had been running for a while, when I opened the lid I had a black screen and it was frozen. Disabled waked for network access but it was no help.
#2 - When the laptop goes in standby and I open it back up I get a beach ball forever - I've tried to let it go for upwards of 30 minutes and it never unfreezes, but I can move the mouse around. I ended up telling the laptop not to standby when it was plugged in to a power source otherwise I ended up always losing work.
MacBook Pro :: No Bootup - Stay On Gray Background Logo Screen
Feb 23, 2010Whenever I start up my macbook it stayed on grey background with an apple logo and spinning thing. I press and hold the shift key once and it went to safe mode and did my diagnostic and found out that some file got corrupted so I thought maybe I'll just do another start up and everything will go back to normal. Then I restart it again but this time it wont past that grey back ground w/ apple logo w/ spinning thing again. I tried to do the safe mode again and it won't let me anymore. I went to apple site and i found a bunch of keyboard shortcuts, non of those help me. Any here have any idea what might happen to my MacBook. I'm in Kazahstan for work related trip and they don't use Mac here so there is no where I can buy another snowleaopard cd.

Jun 16, 2012I use a White MacBook (early 2008) with OS X Lion on it. I checked for updates recently, when I found that OS update 10.7.4 was available.
When I started the update, the Software Update utility asked me to update by restarting. After I did this, the update got downloaded and the machine restarted. Now, it is getting stuck on the boot screen with the Apple logo replaced by a 'circle with a line in it' (like a typical "not allowed") logo.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Installer Stay Stuck On Password Enter Screen When Installing Apps?
Apr 11, 2012When installing apps through Installer (from .dmg disk images and .pkg packages), everything works smoothly until it asks me for a password. When I enter it, Installer goes back to the screen before it asked me for the password. When I click next, it asks me for my password, and the cycle repeats. I tried removing my password to no avail. I can install .pkg files from the sudo installer -pkg command. I dont know how to do this for installers that are in app form.

Oct 18, 2010I have a 23 inch Samsung LED that I am using with a new 15 inch i7 MBP. Everything was working wonderfully until today when I had to power my MBP off due to a program lockup. Now the picture on the MPB that used to fill the Samsung screen no longer does. It leaves about 1 1/2 inches of black on either side of the Samsung that is just dead space. Some of my programs now hang over into those areas and you cannot see them fully.Why would it have changed like this just due to a power off and how do I get it back to displaying the full screen on the Samsung? I have toyed with this for over an hour now and am getting nowhere.

Oct 25, 2006I recently got a cheap used 12 1.33 PB, that has worked great for a couple of months.Yesterday the PB shut off totally while in sleep mode. I couldn't power it back up at first, but was able to after I reset the PMU, and plugged the power cord in. The computer worked fine after that for the rest of the day.This morning, I noticed the PB shut off again during sleep mode. But this time, I can no longer boot it up. The PB chimes, but then nothing comes onscreen, and there's no hard drive activity (so I'm pretty sure its not the screen.)

Mar 9, 2012In the last 2 months or so, I have seen my MacMini 2011 OSX 10.7.3 crashing withing a minute of wakeup, after sleeps of more than 2-3 hours.
Sometimes the Black screen occurs almost immediately, sometimes it takes up to a minute after the desktop appears (after logging in). This did not occur until I got 10.7.3 and only within the last 2 months.

Nov 28, 2010While browsing the web I keep randomly getting messages that my computer isn't connected to the internet. Sometimes I can load a new page in another tab, but when I go back to the tab that wasn't working and refresh it still says I'm still not connected. It seems to go in and out pretty often. I don't have this problem on my pc laptop so I don't think its my DSL. It's happened randomly since I got the Air, but seems much more frequent (probably happened 15 times today).

Aug 14, 2009I haz a serial problem, but I'll spare you the plea for sympathy and leave that to my psych. A less serial problem is my 2.4ghz AluMacBook. It's super great funtime, number one! The problem is when I put it in my laptop bag, the lid pops back open! This means pencils or cd's could get inside of the clamshell and damage it! I don't like to have my properties damaged so I'm wondering if there's a way I could re-tension the spring or adjust something soez that it stays shut. No, I'm not complaining about a weak spring, as with the MacBook Pros, I'm complaining about maybe a spastic spring that just can't be subdued. Is there any chance the magnets that hold it shut are weak?

Nov 2, 2009I have a February 2008 MBP and am having issues with keeping it asleep. I currently have it set up as a desktop connected to an external monitor, keyboard and Magic Mouse (along with a variety of other peripherals) and I've recently noticed this issue. I'm running 10.6.1, I have tried everything from resetting the PRAM, SMC and repairing disk permissions to even installing a clean copy of Snow Leopard and restoring from Time Machine backup.
For power management, I have it set to never sleep, since I manually set it to sleep and don't want it sleeping on me when in use. I also have Wake on LAN activity disabled. Yet when I set it to sleep, at approximately noon the next day it wakes up by itself. I've even turned off the Magic Mouse to make sure it wasn't being moved by vibration and waking up the Mac. I'm completely stumped!
For troubleshooting purposes, I've installed a clean copy of SL without restoring TM backup to see if it's a program that's causing this issue or if it's a problem with a peripheral. I've yet to check back on it as I'm at work, but I'm hoping it's just software related. I'm at a loss as to what to do.

May 2, 2010My Macbook Pro will not stay in sleep mode.
When I close the lid, it will go to sleep for about 5 seconds and then just continuously wake up, then sleep, then wake up etc.
If I press sleep for the menu it just wakes up again after about 5 seconds.
The battery is completely screwed and the laptop is often plugged in, but even when I take it off charge the same thing happens.

Mar 25, 2009Just got my refurb MacBook the other day--went through the setup process and got up and running, but unfortunately my internet won't stay connected for more than a few minutes, and when it is connected, it is super slow!
Just some background information that's hopefully helpful. My internet has never been great--if all three of my roommates were all using our laptops or if I was downloading something for a while, I would sometimes get kicked off and have to restart my router. Speaking of which, I'm using the wireless obviously through a Linksys router. While the disconnections on my old laptop happened infrequently, I literally can't stay on the internet for more than 10 minutes with my MacBook.
I really want to use my MacBook, but without the internet, it's pretty much just sitting there and I'm forced to use my 4-year-old, dying HP.

I dropped my Unibody Macbook off at the authorized repair shop (no Apple stores around Canada). They felt that the issue should be fixed but they needed apples go ahead, so they phoned Apple about it and they denied the claim. Next, the head technician at the shop didn't agree with their verdict so he sent an email to Apple with a video of the problem attached. They replied with saying that it was normal and they would offer me a sleeve for free. I wanted it fixed so I took it a step further. I called 1-800-my-apple and spoke with their tech support. She felt it should be fixed to so she let me speak with her supervisor. He also felt that it wasn't within normal spec, so he spoke with his manager (Highest level of tech support). The manager said no, all they could do for me is offer a free sleeve for it. The supervisor eventually transferred me to customer relations, where I spoke to gentlemen. I explained the problem to him and then he asked for the number of the repair shop. He spoke with the Manager of the shop and the repair was authorized.
