Mar 11, 2009The mouse cursor on my G4 (see specs below) is frozen. The mouse I usually use is a standard apple mouse purchased about seven years ago. I have tried another mouse (no success) and rebooted using the installation disc in the hope of a disc repair, but again no mouse cursor movement. I am at a loss as to what to do next.

Nov 5, 2010I've had the new macbook air just two days now. Turned it on this morning, used it for like 5 minutes and the screen just started flickering, and the whole machine just froze on me! Had to do a system reset, but I'm a little concerned after spending over a grand on this macbook! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm actually thinking about returning the machine..

May 15, 2012My Screen is actively frozen ! I can move my mouse however I cannot select anything or stop the computer fan from sounding! If I close the laptop the screen will go dark however the fan is still in motion!I need to find out how to reset this do I can get some work done!

May 25, 2012I just got my macbook pro in march. Yesterday, the screen began to occasionally freeze (but other things like audio would continue to play) and slowly get brighter and brighter until it either turned completely white with a few small black stripes, or revert back to the regular screen and function normally. It has been happening more and more frequently recently.

MacBook Pro :: Frozen Screen With Pink/Blue Lines?
Sep 3, 2010My almost 3 year old MBP shows a full screen of artifacts like horizontal lines with blue and pink boxes. It did it while simply browsing the web. It had a message in the center of the screen that said to push the power button to power off in several languages.
I powered off the computer. Tried to restart it and on the start up screen the Apple appears in the center of the screen with the same pink and blue boxes in it and the spinning symbol below is stuck and the computer will not start up.
Any ideas on what my problem is? I have about 2 months of Apple Care left.
MacBook Pro :: Won't Work With Frozen Screen / Turns Black
Oct 28, 2009my MBP is really screwing up these days. Basically the best way I can describe it is that randomly once in awhile (no matter what I'm doing, usually surfing the net) the screen flickers a few times, then most of it turns black (except usually for a small part on top that stays on whatever it was displaying before). The section between the part that stayed the same and the bottom is sort of "multicolored".
The computer does not respond to anything except holding the power button down for 5 seconds until it shuts off. If I try to adjust brightness or sound level, nothing happens. Anyway, I took it in to apple and they claimed it was the motherboard, so they replaced it. But today I had the problem again! What else could it even be? Any chance its the RAM/screen/hard drive?

Apr 9, 2012we have a 2 month old macbook pro. We have just done a system update, and the screen has been stuck on grey for more than 45 mins now. I did this update a few days ago on my own MBP and there was no grey screen issue. Is it safe to restart the mac, or does this update just take a while on some computers?

Aug 27, 2014I have an early 2008 version of the 17" MacBook Pro. During the process of uploading photos to iPhoto, the screen froze and pink and green pixels appeared. I shut down by the off button and upon on turning it back on found the screen as shown below. The apple appears and then the clock spins for a moment then freezes. I cannot get any further.
I've tried booting in Safe Mode and other options I've read when trying to boot but to no avail.
Someone said I need to run the AHT but as this was purchased from a friend, I don't have the installation CD's. I've found a DMG file of the AHT but am completely at a loss as to what to do with this.

Feb 9, 2012I noticed my notebook running a little slower than usual so I took the usual steps, without much luck. I then verified and repaired disk permissions in Disk Utility. Tried to use disk repair but got a message that the disk was damaged and I needed to boot from an install disc and run Disk Utility from it. I put the disc in, chose it as my boot disc in Preferences, and ever since once I power up all I get is the chime and a blank grey dead screen. proceed or at the very least remove the disc from the SuperDrive

Jun 5, 2012I was installing the Mac OS X Snow Leopard (family pack), haven't installed yet, due to a moving from USA to Brazil. I put the CD on and followed the instructions of installation. After is ready to install, a message showed that would take about 1 hour and 45 minutes. So I left the room and when I came back the screen was bright with an "apple" on it, and its frozen, and I can't take the CD from the slot or do anything in the computer. What that means, did my laptop crashed? I did turn the power off and turn back on, but still the same.

In just about any program, if I leave program running, close lid, come back in about 30 minutes, my screen will be black. I can see cursor, but when I move mouse it will "erase" some of the black screen. I've seen similar forum postings, but in those the screen is locking up -- mine does not do that. I've taken in to Genius Bar, they've run diagnostics and found no problems.
I then have to restart, but in doing so it will bring up the Guest login screen, with a completely different wallpaper than my default.
Also, there, at times, is a "hissing" sound that no one can diagnose. At first we thought it was caused by a game in which there is the sound of a waterfall, but I'm now hearing it even when the game is not being played. Super drive has been checked and no problem found.

There are a number of issues I have run across:If I have four tabs open on Safari then I start to get a flickering on the screen from the GPU refreshing.When I leave the computer alone for more than 20 mins the screen saver should start -- what happens is that the screen goes to black. When I move the cursor I do not get the login screen. Aug 22, 2014I just purchased a brand new macbook air this past week. I noticed within the first day of using that if my machine went into sleep mode, and I hit a key to take it out of sleep mode, it would go to a black screen with my cursor for about 30 seconds.
It does not do it every time but enough that it is annoying. I am coming from a mid 2011 mac air that did not have any issues. (only replaced for all day battery)
Do you think this a hardware or software issue? If i swap this mac out do you think I will just encounter the same thing?
I have read numerous posts regarding waking from sleep issues but they all seem to be affecting MacBooks purchased between 2012 and 2013.

Jun 26, 2014My mid 2013 MBP, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16Gb 1600 Mhz DDR with a 500 GB SSD running Mavericks 10.9.3 has, since upgrade to Mavericks, developed a tick. It will occasionally and erratically (some days nothing, sometimes once a day, sometimes twice or more) go black with cursor arrow visible and responsive. (Responsive=it's visible and moves as expected in response to trackpad) The screen comes back after 30-40 seconds or so, but not in response to any keypress or mouse movement that I can detect a pattern for. It just sits there, while I hit escape, spacebar, shift, cmd-option-esc, cmd-option-tab, mouse around, whatever, then comes back. System is fine, don't even get the beach ball. So it's a minor annoyance, except when I'm presenting to a roomful of people who are waiting for my machine to wake up, and that 30 seconds can be FOREVER. Which has happened twice now. When I'm connected to an external screen via thunderbolt that screen is black as well.
tried the fix of resetting SMC as well as Safe Mode boot to complete any unfinished OS updates. But the symptom is different, and those fixes haven't worked. I've never had a bad reboot, this condition just seems to pop up without apparent rhyme or reason. It's so infrequent and unpredictable that I despair how long it will take me to run bare and cycle through restoring background apps.
OS X :: Macbook Just Stopped Working - Can Move The Cursor Around The Blue Screen And Stuff ?
Feb 27, 2009had my macbook for about a year and a half and recently it just stopped working. Literally it was fine one minute and the next the screen was just black. I tried turning it on and off and now it stays at the boot screen for like 30 minutes and then just goes to a blue screen. I can move the cursor around the blue screen and stuff but there are no icons and there is no finder or anything. everytime i turn it off and back on the same thing, bootscreen and then bluescreen.
