View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new 2012 aluminum Wireless keyboard and the function keys do not work properly. I am currently running OS 1.5.8. I would expect most keys to match the icons on the keyboard. I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. I have installed an aluminum keyboard upgrade 2.0 and this did not help. I just want the the keyboard functions to match the icons on the keyboard.. Volume up...volume down...

Plugged in external keyboard and power supply. Mac came out of safe sleep -- battery discharged. External keyboard works fine. Trackpad works fine.Â
Computer completely functional, save for most keys dead on internal keyboard.Â
Powered down. Tried to restart but power key unresponsive.Â
Installed new keyboard. Computer powered up. Keyboard still messed up in same way -- some keys work, most don't, though power key now does work. External keyboard works fine.Â
Reset PRAM and SMC. No effect.Â
Short hardware test showed nothing. Still awaiting results of long test. Backed up all data while I was at it.Â
My son has a number of shady apps. Torrents, etc. Can imbedded viruses cause keyboard flakiness?Â

i recently bought an MBP 15" (Late 2011), its really fast but of course i want it to be even faster and i was considering changing the old HDD to an SSD and was wondering if it ruins the warranty and if there is anyting else i should be aware of? how do i install the operating system when i dont have a CD, do i have to get ont or does apple have a magic sollution for that too?

I just recently started using a Mac and I have a simple question I couldn't find over the net.How do I send the break key in Mac? For example in terminal, if I typed a long line but want to abort it, I used press Ctrl-C to cancel it in a different OS. Or if there is a console application, I press Ctrl-C to force the application to close.
I checked websites which told me to use the following:
command key + C - doesn't work
(I tried shift + command key + C, it also does not work)
alt + F3 (I pressed shift, option [for alt] and f3) - all my windows spread apart from each other
option + F3 - Expose & Spaces configuration window appears
I am looking to import cd's that do not have breaks between songs. Most electronica cd's are like this, but a live concert would be the same. When I pop a cd in my computer and import it into iTunes it turns it into individual tracks, with an abrupt break between songs instead of the continuous flow that the cd has.

I have a column that has name / phone and i'm trying to break out the two into two separate columns. I can't figure out a way to do this? I'm trying to figure out to use the line break to trigger the column separation but no luck? Here is an example of what i have in a column:

I know that this error in the Console Log has been around for a while, but I've spent all day searching and I can't find the answer. It's the last, and only, error that I have in my log now. Here it is:

It could have appeared after linking a new GPS device I got via a USB cable although it still appears without this being connected and after re-booting.I'm concerned over the security of my machine - does it mean someone has access to my Macbook Pro? I can't find any way to break the connection.

I'm now using Microsoft Office 2008, and I often use Page Breaks. Previously, on the windows computer I used, I could simply press ctrl + return to insert a page break, but this is not a standard shortcut in the Mac version.
My solution - or at least, I hoped it would be a solution - was to use a custom shortcut for Microsoft Word via the System Preferences. I would like to set it to either ctrl + return or cmd + return, but it doesn't work.. However, when I try a shortcut like ctrl + cmd + down - or really anything without the return key - it works just fine. So, here comes the actual question; Is there any way to incorporate the return key within the shortcut?
Ohh, and now another problem comes in mind, I've got this Video_TS dir on my HD from a dvd which I tried to open, but when it's opened it simply 'plays' the menu. So I'm unable to actually select the option from it, and it simply goes to other part - like chapter selection - afterwards.It also plays little bits of the files, hangs for while, and skips a bit, then repeats the cycle.Anyone familiar with it? I use VLC Player Open Disk... with the Video_TS folder option.Ohh, and the files play fine on the windows pc next to me.. I got a 6gb file I need to send to my other computer since its I cant get the network configured and its too big for a dvd. Files that big wont be sent over aim or anything really. How on a mac I can break it down into smaller files? Its a .iso

View 1 Replies View RelatedI get unexpected problems with a dual 1.8 G5 (2 GB RAM, 2 disks inside, both 320 GB). In fact, the machine seems to break any hard drive I plug in it (via USB, eSata or internal HD). The internal hard drive hosting the system is clicking every five minutes or so, and two external hard drives are now mostly unsable (they unexpectedly unmount when copying, or they just don't mount at all). I checked them all with DiskWarrior. Some times, they can be repaired, sometimes not.
The problems appear with Tiger and Leopard as well. I lost Time Machine backups form an external hard drive (Seagate 320GB, got "keys out of order" error message in DiskUtility). The other external HD I have to put my photos (750 GB Seagate) can be used in both eSATA via Lacie PCI card and USB. Both USB and eSATA fail unexpectedly (unmount while copying) and everytime the hard drives seems to fail more and more everytime I try to use them.
I used Apple products since years '80 (SE30) and did not have problems whatsoever with previous machine and my actual macbook Pro. This G5 is getting me crazy, and I don't want to put hundreds of dollars repairing since it is worth less than 800$ actually... Is it the power supply, the logic board, a problem with electric voltage up and down? I always found solutions to problems but now, it is the first time I don't see the light... I feel like everytime I plug a hard drive in this G5, I play with fire and may loose my backups and archives!

Love it or hate it, I couldn't stand the all-gray iTunes and the vertical traffic lights. So I dropped a little script in the terminal and installed a modification to bring colour back to my icons. Now that iTunes 10.1 is out, does anyone have any experience with it breaking such modifications? I can't quite remember what it was I changed or I would experiment for myself. Unfortunately I'm tech savvy enough for basic trouble shooting and following explicit directions but not enough to know all the components of iTunes. I think I replaced a resource file of some kind.

Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard and using Apple Mail, I have been getting the following error after a day or so of use: "Account exceeded bandwidth limits." Eventually I am able to access GMail via IMAP with Apple Mail, but only for about a day before this error occurs again. This doesn't affect my access to GMail via the web interface. Nothing has changed with my use of GMail since before the Snow Leopard upgrade and I've seen scattered reports of this on the 'net, but nothing that nails down a solid connection between the Snow Leopard upgrade and this error.

So I just bought my first Mac and I bought it as a open box. When i turned it on the Word was in spanish but everything else in English, and whoever had this laptop before me still has it registered to them (I'm guessing). I need to know how to reset it. I bought my Mac a little over a month ago and I'm really not impressed with it. I keep seeing the little rainbow wheel all the time. When I try to load a YouTube video the whole machine just stops working and becomes unresponsive for about 4-5 seconds. Also, when flicking between tabs on Safari it intimitantly becomes unresponsive. I don't do any heavy power consuming things on my mac. It's basically just for college and recently all I've been doing is using Safari, Spotify and Bittorent. I don't know what I should do. Whether to take it back to Apple or just deal with it. My old Acer laptop was fine dealing with this sort of stuff so I'm really unsure. I feel quite let down although I am a total apple fanboy. Â
