MacBook Pro :: Does The Apple Thunderbolt To Ethernet Dongle Support Promiscuous Mode
Jul 2, 2012
Does the apple thunderbolt to ethernet dongle support promiscuous mode ? I need to use the new Retina MBP as a professional laptop for work, and I need to use Etherreal. Etherreal needs the Ethernet card/dongle/chip to run in Promiscuous mode. I have heard that unblivably the thunderbolt Ethernet dongle does not support this, if so then the laptop will not pick all the packets on the wire. is this true ?Â

Has anyone had issues upgrading Thunderbolt to 1.2.1 to support the new gigabit Ethernet adapter? I have tried about 6 times to do the update but my ethernet adapter still isn't being detected.

I found this article below when searching on iMac i7 info.We took delivery of the brand spankin' new 27" i7 iMac last week and connected it immediately to our Final Share SAN in about 5 minutes for video editing. Quick tests showed the SAN was connected and working fine. Then today I started really editing on it and I'm dropping frames every 10 to 30 seconds. Now it appears the ethernet controller that is in the new Mac cannot support the speeds necessary to edit video via the SAN. Our 2 year old iMacs can, but the brand spanking new, most powerful iMac cannot.I'm at a loss as to how Apple can improve every aspect of this machine, including the absolutely stunning 27" LED backlit display, but then cut back on something as simple as an Ethernet Controller that should be designed to work with today's equipment running high speed internet instead of stepping backwards to the speed of older model PowerMac machines.

I'm migrating from a MacBook Air (mid 2013) to a new MacBook Pro and both have Thunderbolt. Do I put the MacBook Air in Target Disk Mode? I did at first but the device did not show up in Migration Assistant on the MacBook Pro.

I have a new 3.4 GHz Thunderbolt iMac and can't get Thunderbolt Target Display Mode to work with my current-model 13" MacBook Air or the current model 15" MacBook Pro furnished to me by my employer. Cmd-F2 just creates a beeping sound. I tried three different Thunderbolt cables. (They are not Mini DisplayPort cables. I have one of those from a previous model of iMac and it both looks different from the Thunderbolt cables and System Information doesn't show any change when I try to patch the computers together using it.)
All machines are fully updated to MacOS X 10.7.4 with all firmware updates applied. System Information shows that all are equipped with Thunderbolt interfaces; the Console app shows the kernel message indicating when the Thunderbolt devices are plugged in and removed; all three machines work in Thunderbolt Target Disk mode in both directions with all three cables with both Thunderbolt interfaces on the iMac.

I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 with Lion installed. The Performance is less than I expected if compare with my old Macbook with Snow Leopard installed. Connect to Apple's Thunderbolt Display Performance goes doen to very, very, very, very slow. For Example to load a JPG in Preview it takes more than 30 seconds until 1 min to load. Same to start iWork like Pages or Keynote.Sometimes Safari freeze, loading images or loading plugins like flash animations. Generally Lion works with low performance and I wish Snow Leopard back. But my Mybook Pro late 2011 is not compatible to install Snow Leopard on it.Â

Does anyone have any tips for getting higher up into apple for support. I've been trying to get my unibody polycarbonate macbook repaired. The hinges are cracking and the rubberized bottom is starting to curl. Spent almost 40 minutes on the phone this morning which was mostly about explaining that the macbook DOES have a rubberized bottom and not little feet. How can i get some support from someone who isn't a moron?

I have a unibody macbook connect to Apple LED cinema display, and using VIsta to play Blu-Ray disc using FastMac external Slim drive and PowerDVD, but cannot play content due to HDCP non-compliant display. I have heard so many people said LED can support HDCP through DisplayPort, but appear to be not the case. Using AnyDVD HD can by-pass this, but that is really not the ideal solution for me. Anyone can get Blu-ray to play on Vista on a LED display?

I currently have an O2 wireless ADSL2 Modem connected to my AEBS. I've disabled the Wi-Fi signal of the wireless box since its a G router and i'd rather be using the AEBS for its N signals. I'm wondering if i should connect the O2 box to the ethernet port of the AEBS or WAN port whilst in bridge mode? or it doesn't matter?

I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro, and today I've been unable to connect to the internet via ethernet or wi-fi, unless I'm in safe mode. Then everything seems to work as it should, which makes me believe that this is a software issue rather than a hardware problem. I've tried making a new account with administrator priveleges, but that doesn't solve my issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can connect to the internet under my normal user account, rather than in safe mode? I should note that I won't be able to get my hands on my repair CD or perform a clean install of OSX because that stuff is at home, and I'm in college. Also, I'm at a university and don't have a router. I just use the campus-wide wi-fi. Finally, my roommate has no problem accessing the internet in our room via ethernet or wi-fi, but I do. Thanks for the help everyone.
