MacBook Pro :: Does Bootcamp Work On Crucial M225 SSD's On 2010
Jun 23, 2010
So I've read about how bootcamp isn't working on some SSD manufacturers. People will partition the SSD ok and install Windows but upon boot they get stuck on the gray screen forever. Windows won't boot.
I'm curious if anyone who has a Crucial M225 SSD installed in their 2010 MBP (maybe late 2009) have tried installing Windows via Bootcamp with success.
If you have then instead of going the route of using Apple's SSD I'm going to get a 256GB Crucial M225 as they are cheaper and I know it has garbage collection which is a must for me.

Just received my crucial m225 256 GB and installed it today. Let me tell you, it's amazingly fast. Came with updated firmware so I didn't have to do anything. The firmware has Garbage Collection which will do its own garbage collection when the system is idle so there is no need for manually trimming it yourself. This is great for MACs since it doesn't support trim ANYWAYS. I used super duper! to make a carbon copy of my old hard drive and I was set. I just installed windows and I've never seen windows install so quick. It took the normal time to expand the files due to the CD rom speed but once that was done, the install was basically done. I was doing HW and I looked up and the system was already restarting.

I Recently installed on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) windows7 and then updated to windows8. I'm now unable to install Bootcamp on the windows OS due to compatibility issues.
Is there a specific version of bootcamp that may work and if yes where can I find it?

I'm about to order a 13" MacBook Pro. I'm undecided as to get the Apple 128GB SSD or the Crucial 128GB SSD. The cost is the same for me. Any opinions? Anyone got the Crucial?

Does the OWC Data Doubler work with the stock internal HD in the Mid-2010 MBP 15' i5? (Specs: 320GB Serial ATA; 5400 rpm) -from Apple.com [URL] The reason I'm asking this is because I'm planning to switch out the stock internal HD with an SSD (Intel X25-M G2). Then use the stock HD and put it in the optical drive space for data storage.

I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.
If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.

I went to Office Depot and asked the cashier, when purchasing, if it would work for Mac. She said "yeah." Well, I'm thinking I didn't get the right info.
So now I feel like I am stuck with this. I had bought it because I was needing to open some Publisher docs sent to me, and the free trials online didn't seem to work.

I'd like to upgrade my 2.8ghz iMac from the standard 2gbs to 4gbs. I can get crucial ram for 65.79 and corsair for 55.90. I've heard that corsair has a very good reputation for desktop ram but don't know if this transfers over to laptop ram. Is there any reason why I would go for the crucial memory? Also, does anyone else know of any other brands I should look out for in the UK?

I have a Macbook pro and I'm running windows 7 as the operating system. I just started using Autocad 2010 on this computer, and for some reason, the "delete" key doesn't delete anything when I press it. I tried to set "pickfirst" to 1 (checking the box of "noun/ verb"), but it doesn't help. Setting them both to <0> and <1> don't make a difference, both options don't "delete" the selected object.

I've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.
It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?

I just order the new MacBook 15" with the new 2880x1800 Retaina Display.
But I'm gong to run Windows 7 (and 8) on the machine, which have nerver been a problem on my current MacBooks/iMacs. But now I wonder how Windows will handle this resolution?
Windows has a DPI setting that makes everything bigger on a high resolution display. I never used it, and I don't know how well it works. Is that the way to go? Would you change the order to a none retina display, if you were me?
Info:
Windows 7

Are there any downfalls if I install one 2GB RAM (Crucial) with the one that came with the Mac Mini (early 2009)?
Because I heard that if I use 4GB, I only get like 3.3GB.
So instead of spending $70 for 2/2GB, I should just get a single 2GB and install it with the regular one that the Mini came with.
Any problems with doing this?

I purchased this spring of 2011 and only used the drive to install the software. I had lots of other problems with kernel issues and was in and out of the Genius Store like a hen on an egg, but now I am trying to use the DVD drive and it doesn't work. It doesn't recognize any applications to open it, not Toast, not Disk Utility, and it has a hard time recognizing music CDs also. Not only does it not recognize it on the desktop, it simply spits the disk out. I purchased new DVD-RW and tried to write an .iso image to the DVD, and it won't work. Sad fact is that this is now past the warranty and I am stuck with this. The Mac Mini 2010 version was expensive, and the only reason I bought it was because of the drive because I didn't have one.

So I just started using Time Machine (had been using CCC). A quick scan of my backup shows that it's not backing up my Outlook email database file. This missing file is very concerning to me. First of all, this is one of my most important files, needless to say. But also, it makes me wonder, what other important files might Time Machine be deciding to skip without my knowledge. I went into my Time Machine preferences and have no exclusions in there
