MacBook Pro :: Copying CD's To A Drive As 192k Mp3?
Jun 7, 2012
I have a Macbook Pro, and an external drive USB connected.
I want to use this drive as a USB HD for my TV to stream my personal CD's from my TV and hifi system, to play.
Is there a way to copy all of my CD's direct to the drive but as 192k MP3's and not AIFF files?
I don't necessarily need iTunes to do this, but I think this may be my only option? To quickly copy my albums to a drive as MP3's, would it be better to set up iTunes?
I don't want the tunes going onto my Macbook Pro first, just direct to the drive but being converted first..
even possible with a PC (as I have a laptop) if its easier via windows

MacBook Pro i7 8GB - iPhone 4, Mac OS X (10.6.7)
I am copying my saved iphoto from G drive to WD drive and the box on the computer says 'preparing to copy to MY Book' , 1445 Items, for 15 hours now. Is it really copying or not? Should I start over?

I'm upgrading to a MacBook Pro soon from my current late 2007 Macbook. I just want to know what is the exact procedure on copying the hard drive on my current MacBook to the MacBook Pro I'm getting soon? I want it so it is exactly the way my Mac looks right now. I've got everything backed up on to an external hard drive ready to use.
I have a 250GB WD external hard drive. I formated it in MS-DOD(FAT)/ExFAT using disk utilities.I have problem copying files from MacBookPro to an external hard drive. when i try to copy it says "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data can’t be read or written (Error code -36) " The info of the files is shown as read & write?

I've bought a Seagate External Hard Drive, and want to copy my photos from the Macbook Pro to it. Every time I try and copy them, a message appears 'Unable to render file for export' followed by the drive details and a string of numbers. How I should be copying them? I've already accidentally deleted and appear to have permanently lost photos from iCloud, which is why I want a spare copy on an external drive.
I have a home made DVd I wish to copy to my Hard drive. I have tried Disk Utility but when I save I end up with a folder with other folders in it. I just want a DVD symbol on my desktop I can click and play.
I've recently purchased a NAS drive and would now like to copy about 500 GB of files onto it. Obviously this is a slow process! Is there a way I can set up the copy so that if it gets interrupted I can resume the transfer? At the moment the I just know X of 100 GB has been transferred. On the destination drive you can't see any of the files being transferred across until the entire operation is complete (on a pc you can normally see the files that have been transferred immediately) ... I'm a bit worried that if I turn my laptop off or I have any network issues the transfer will fail..
I recently bought a WD 1TB external USB drive, however when I move files to it OS X copies the files onto the drive instead of simply moving them, as is standard procedure for external drives. I'm wondering if just transferring the files would be any faster, and if so, how to do it?
I have a full 2TB Lacie drive that i want to copy to back up and store in a safe place. I have a Seagate 2TB drive hooked up (both drives on USB) but it freezes everytime. Sometimes i get almost all the way to the end and sometimes it only gets to 150 GB.
I've created a playlist of tracks which I want to load via USB stick into my car.iTunes appears to only give the option of burning the playlist onto a CD or DVD. how I can save the files direct to USB rather than creating a DVD and copying that to USB?
I have a wd external hard drive formatted in ntfs and am now buying my 1st mb air. if i buy a new mac approved hard drive and copy all my old files to the new hard drive using my pc, will i be able to both read and write on my new mac book? what if i used the mac book to copy the 2 hard drives to take advantage of the faster usb 3's would that still work?
I am trying to copy folders over to iCloud Drive that contain documents inside the folders. When I look online (icloud.com), the folders remain but are empty inside. Is there a different procedure I should be doing?

I recently purchased a Western Digital "My Passport Essential" 160mb external hard drive. When I attempt to transfer "any" type of material (JPEGS, PSD, MP3, MPEG, etc) from my 600 MHz PowerPC G3 (iMac) operating on an OS X, to the external hard drive, the file's "Date Modified" (date and time) "mysteriously" changes to the time at which I'm copying the files. For example, a file that was last saved on July 1, 2008 and then transferred (copied) on February 26, 2009 to the external drive, suddenly appears with a "new" February 26, 2009 saved date.
Because, I've always viewed my files by the "Date Modified" option at the top of the folder, I've relied on my files for its accurate date and times.
I recently bought my first imac. I seem to have an issue about copying movies from my imac to an external hard drive.I try to ''drag and drop'' but nothing is happening.I also tried to copy the movies and then paste them to the hard drive but no luck either.
I want to copy my iTunes library from one external drive (currently connected to an iBook) to a 2nd external drive (connected to an eMac). The library is almost 60GB and so can not fit on either machine's hard drive.
The music currently plays through the iBook from the first external drive.
I want to be able to play the same music on the eMac (through the 2nd external drive).
Which is the best way to go about this?
Should I:
a) Connect the 1st external drive to the eMac and manually drag and drop the music from there to the 2nd external drive, or
b)Use Silverkeeper Basckup and do a backup of the Music folder in the 1st drive to the 2nd drive, after connecting the 1st to the eMac?
or is there not much difference in doing either? Or is there a more efficient option using iTunes?
I am trying to back up all my pictures that are in iphoto to an external hard drive. I just want to copy everything that I have, put them on the external hard drive and move on. How can I do this where I can use these pictures on another computer though if needed? I know that I can move the entire iPhoto library but that wouldn't be compatible on a non-Mac correct?
I want to copy all of my mail and preferences from an old OS X Lion hard drive to a new one. In order to do that I need to be able to see my user library on the old hard drive. Is there anyway to do that without using Terminal commands? Also, what files will I need to copy to the new hard drive?
I am trying to copy the iPhoto library to my newly installed NAS drive. I have 2 libraries (3.6gb and 16.8gb). The smaller one copied across no problem but when copying the second I get an error 36 after it has copied 30mb of data.
I have tried all avenues: - Restarted iPhoto holding down alt and opt and repairing permissions. - Rebuilt library using iPhoto Library Manager
But I still get the same message. I have backed up the whole Mac using Superduper to a small external drive and that works fine.Part of the reason I bought the NAS drive was to back up photos, and now it doesn't work!
Also, I do when checking Console I get the following message regularly: 12/05/2012 09:16:22.050 fseventsd: scan_old: bailing out because device mounted @ /Volumes/Buffalo_Cloud has dls 0x0 and dls->fci 0x0
every time i try to copy a file that is over 6gb to my external drive i get this message "sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (error code 0) how di i fix this error?
I am backing stuff up to an external drive (G-Raid 1TB, if that matters), and the process will randomly stop and not allow me to cancel out the copy process once it does so. I have had multiple problems with many drives (lacie and g-raid) in the past before, on different machines (G5 tower, mac pros, intel imacs, etc) so for some reason in my head I figure it as random. I'm guessing there's a hiccup somewhere.
They're all formatted correctly to handle large files, and I know it's not good, but if it hangs up and I pull power or shut down, it'll unfreeze and remount (about 80% of the time success rate, 20% of the time it wont even show up, not even in disk utility). This also occurs when I am going from external drive to external drive and internal drive to external drive. It seems very random. And finder seems to stall out too (like it is now) and when I try to relaunch it, it will not come back until one of the drives that is causing the problem is disconnected from the computer.
I got a WD10EALX Cabiar Blue drive last week and copied my existing internal drive that had Tiger OSX on it. It booted fine until I copied an iphoto library from a friend's Mac and now this disk won't boot. I get the circle with the slash through it and the folder with the question mark on it. I ran it through disk utility and it was verified with no problems.

I am copying data from a clone backup to another drive. After the copy I looked at the permissions and they are not the same as the source. When checking the source I do not see permissions for my logged in account. When I look at the destination I see Root has read-write permissions. BTW, I also logged in as root do to the copy because I was getting copy errors.
So i copied all my itunes music and photos to my iPhone. Can I hook it to my MBA which is coming soon and transfer everything over. including purchased music?
reason being is I sold my MB and I don't have an external drive.
