is that correct? and if so, is there a way to allow a normal user to change locations without admin-rights?
Intel Mac :: Cannot Change Admin User To Standard User (2 Admin Accounts)
Mar 6, 2012When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.

MacBook Air :: Freezes After Change Of WiFi Location
Jun 27, 2014Finally I can reproduce the freezing of my macbook air. If I change from wifi location for example i go to work from home the following happens: the MBA will not fall a sleep resulting in a very hot MBA in my bag.the MBA will fall a sleep but it is not possible to wake it up againthe MBA will fall a sleep and is able to wake up again after opening the lid but now it will freeze the entire mac within 5-10 minutes.
I have to push the power button for a long time in either cases.
I just did a complete restore so i have no extra software installed.

Apr 6, 2012I've got a macbook pro which was working fine via wifi …. We had a power-cut last week and things have now gone rather mental. When trying to connect to the internet via wireless, it kept coming up with “Wi-Fi does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet.”
So I ran a search on google on how to try and sort it. I followed the following instructions : Add a New Network Location & Renew DHCP LeaseLaunch “System Preferences” from the Apple menuSelect the “Network” panelClick on the “Location” pull down menu and choose “Edit Locations…”Click on the + plus icon to add a new network location, give it a unique name, and click “Done”Back at the Network panel with the newly created location selected, click on “Advanced” in the bottom right cornerClick on the “TCP/IP” tabClick on “Renew DHCP Lease” and wait for the numbers on the left to repopulate, then click “OK”
I was absolutely thrilled as it worked!!! … and continues to work ... The only problem now is that my Macbook is the only one in the house that can connect to the internet wirelessly. When I try and connect my iPhone 4 it asks me for the Password then says “Unable to join network” and also my mums laptop refuses to join wifi …. She’s not happy with me as she now has to run it via ethernet. I tried to set up my iPhone manually, but with no joy as I'm not sure what I'm doing

Apr 11, 2012I seem to have a problem with my ethernet port not working after a specific location change...I have three locations I used frequently. Let's call them:
1) HomeWireless
2) WorkWireless (used when I'm in meetings)
3) WorkEthernet (used when I'm at my desk)
My general practice is to change locations just before putting my MacBook Pro to sleep, and then it is happily ready for the desired network when it is awoken.I'm not sure what this change in behavior coincided with, but as of ~1 month ago, I am finding that going from WorkWireless to WorkEthernet, my ethernet port appears to be completely dead and I have to reboot the computer to reactivate it (yes, I've checked the cable itself and the wall port at they're OK). I've tried a couple ways of disabling & re-enabling it in software, but I don't get the impression anything actually resets this interface - suggestions are welcome as perhaps I just didn't try the right thing. I couldn't find anything quite the same as "networksetup -setairportpower" for the ethernet port.Oddly, this is not an issue with going from HomeWireless to WorkEthernet. Both HomeWirelss and WorkWireless have the ethernet interface deactivated in the Network pref pane, and perhaps the only notable difference between HomeWirelss and WorkWireless is that I use a static IP on the former and dynamic on the latter.

Dec 6, 2014We have 5 macs in our family, all were configured under my iCloud account for the App store & I just used to log in with my iCloud account on my partner/daughters machines to do updates etc.
Daughter has now gone to Uni & I'd like to move her "App store account" side of things over to her own iCloud account so that she can continue doing updates etc. without needing me.
How do I go about changing this on her machine? I'm not looking to wipe the machine for resale etc. just give her the ability to carry out updates without needing my account details. There are a few minor apps installed on it from my Apple ID but nothing major that she'd worry about losing if she needed to remove them but what is the score in this area anyway?

Feb 1, 2009Tonight i was working on a report in MS Office 08, and it was all fine and what not until one point i got some error message saying that the disk was full and i couldnt save it and to change the saving location. Anything this is on the main drive where i have ~40gb's left. So i put my USB Drive in to save it on that and it gave me the same error it wouldnt save on anything it just keep saying Disk Full.. Does anyone know what that is? Clearly its some sort of error/bug as i restarted the macbook and downloaded a picture and saved it on my desktop with no problems after the reboot. Im running mac osx 10.5.6

Dec 28, 2010Pretty new to Apple products. I'm attempting to use an external monitor that is located above and behind my laptop. However, I can't find a way to set Snow Leopard to let me move the mouse from the primary laptop display upward into the auxiliary display.
Currently, I need to roll the mouse off the right edge of the laptop display to reach the left edge of the external display. Very counterintuitive.

Is the location of the Downloads Folder (and Movies) something that can be configured somewhere? I still want it to show up in my home folder. Is it as easy as deleting the old one and creating an alias for a Downloads folder located on my external HD?

Jul 1, 2012Since the last upgrade I seem to have a problem changing the download location.Safari seems not to accept locations outside the home folder even with the same permissions (drwx------) and no log entries are generated. I've also tried 0777 with no success. Also, I've tried to create links to the external directory but it still defaults back to the home directory. I had some success with Automator - Finder move - but it gives me a 'disk full' error when downloading.

However, if I disconnect the drive and then open iTunes it reverts back to the default path (%user%/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media). Is there any way to force iTunes to not change the folder location?

Applications :: Apple Mail - Change Storage Location?
Dec 17, 2010I have a 27" i7 with a SSD and a HD. I use Gmail / Imap, but I store my message on my Mac so I can easily search through them.
However, my Gmail account is large enough that it fills my SSD. I need the mail application to store the message on the HD. I can't find an option to make that happen.
Anyone know of a work around?

Jan 22, 2009As I use the web I often use shift + apple + 3 or 4 to take screen captures of things I like and want to remember.
This saves the file to the desktop. Is there a way to change the save location?
Also I've been then adding the clippings to a PS file but this is getting to time consuming and dull to manage.
Is there a better option?
I do really like the way I dont have to use another application to take the screen shot but there is no management...
