Oct 22, 2009Before SL, when ever I downloaded a jpeg, wmv or similar it used to download to my desktop & not to downloads
Does anyone know how I can dictate where downloaded items go too?

OS X Mavericks :: Display File Location Of Item Being Viewed In Preview
Jun 17, 2014I am trying to find a quick and direct way of displaying the file location of a file I am looking at using Preview.Â
For example, in Mac Word, I can use File > Properties > General and see the full file location but I can't see how to do this on Preview. Clicking on the name as shown below, does not show the file location, only the folder it's in (or the desktop) - i.e. the next level up. So if I have filexxx.pdf in folder1>folder2>folder3, clicking on the filename in Preview shows folder3.Â
Using spotlight isn't an option because I get a display like this

Mar 22, 2012I get a pop-up: This Item Cannot Be Downloaded on This Network You must connect to a Wi-Fi network or download it on your computer.yet I am on wi-fi using a macbook pro, trying to purchase a movie from iTunes to download onto my computer.Macbook Wi-fi to linksys to DSL to AT&T 3Mb service. I don't know if this is a hardware, OS, iTunes issue or other.Â

Jul 14, 2010I didn't use the migration assistant, since I wanted to change some key things. What I did do, was copy some old folders from my old mac to my new mac. Oddly enough, during this change, the permissions on these files got locked. Now, since I'm logged in as admin, I can unlock these files and change the permissions, but there's a lot of items and subfolders within this one folder, that I've had to change them all one by one so far. Is there a way, either through finder, or through the terminal that I can just change every item within the one folder at the same time

Mar 22, 2012Whenever I try to download a purchased video from the cloud, whether it be a previously purchased movie or TV show, I get the following message: "This Item Cannot be Downloaded on This Network -- you must be connected to a WiFi network or download it on your computer." I would expect to see this while downloading from an iPhone over 3G, but this is on my home iMac connected to my cable broadband internet via wireless-N connection. Very very strange. I have not yet tried to download a new video purchase -- only previously purchased videos from the cloud that I no longer have on my hard drive. iTunes still downloads large app updates (over 50 MB) just fine.

Aug 25, 2010After migrating to Mac last year, I've also begun my migration to iWork from Office. I now have one problem that I can't seem to resolve. I am trying to paste chemical structures from Chemdraw into my slides, however each item I paste have different size. However, my chemical compounds are a specific size that I need to keep constant.Is there a way for me to alter the size of items i'd like to post by altering the percentages? In the past, I'd alter the item's properties in powerpoint and change the item's size percentage.

Dec 28, 2010Pretty new to Apple products. I'm attempting to use an external monitor that is located above and behind my laptop. However, I can't find a way to set Snow Leopard to let me move the mouse from the primary laptop display upward into the auxiliary display.
Currently, I need to roll the mouse off the right edge of the laptop display to reach the left edge of the external display. Very counterintuitive.

Is the location of the Downloads Folder (and Movies) something that can be configured somewhere? I still want it to show up in my home folder. Is it as easy as deleting the old one and creating an alias for a Downloads folder located on my external HD?

Jul 1, 2012Since the last upgrade I seem to have a problem changing the download location. Safari seems not to accept locations outside the home folder even with the same permissions (drwx------) and no log entries are generated. I've also tried 0777 with no success. Also, I've tried to create links to the external directory but it still defaults back to the home directory. I had some success with Automator - Finder move - but it gives me a 'disk full' error when downloading.

Jul 26, 2010Using my Win7 x64 machine, I transfered all of my songs to an external drive and then changed the default location of the iTunes Media Folder. However, if I disconnect the drive and then open iTunes it reverts back to the default path (%user%/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media). Is there any way to force iTunes to not change the folder location?

Jun 27, 2014Finally I can reproduce the freezing of my macbook air. If I change from wifi location for example i go to work from home the following happens:Â the MBA will not fall a sleep resulting in a very hot MBA in my bag.the MBA will fall a sleep but it is not possible to wake it up againthe MBA will fall a sleep and is able to wake up again after opening the lid but now it will freeze the entire mac within 5-10 minutes.Â
I have to push the power button for a long time in either cases.Â
I just did a complete restore so i have no extra software installed.Â

Dec 17, 2010I have a 27" i7 with a SSD and a HD. I use Gmail / Imap, but I store my message on my Mac so I can easily search through them.
However, my Gmail account is large enough that it fills my SSD. I need the mail application to store the message on the HD. I can't find an option to make that happen.
Anyone know of a work around?

This saves the file to the desktop. Is there a way to change the save location?
Also I've been then adding the clippings to a PS file but this is getting to time consuming and dull to manage.
Is there a better option?
I do really like the way I dont have to use another application to take the screen shot but there is no management...
