Dashboard movies: how do I change location?
Info:
iMac
I am looking to change the location of my 'movies' folder to an external hard drive.
This is in an effort to use Connect 360 to play movies wirelessly that I have on this hard drive.
Any thoughts?
I had weather on the dashboard once, somewhere in CA I think. I wanted local and have downloaded about fifty times but not into the dashboard even though that is where I start. What am I doing wrong?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
My current setup: iMac i7 with 4 external 3GB drives daisy chained with FW800Â
Drive 1:Â Â Â Â Media - this is where I keep my itunes library and all my music, music video and TV show files (1.4TB)
Drive 2:Â Â Â Â Movies - this is where I keep all my purchased movies files (1.2TB)Â
Drive 3:Â Â Â Â Media Backup
Drive 4:Â Â Â Â Movies BackupÂ
iTunes is set to "Keep iTnes Music Folder organized' but NOT to 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library'Â
Problem: Whenever I buy a new movie, it stores them on my media drive by defcult. I want it to store them on my Moies drive.Â
I'm using CandyBar to change the icons, and the Dashboard icon is changed under both System and Applications. In Finder it looks like the one I want to change it to, but when I move it into the Dock it just looks like the default icon. The same thing happens with the Finder icon. Any ideas? Oh and to change the iCal icon, is there any way to change the way the icon looks when you have iCal running? It just looks weird to have it look one way when it's closed and change back to the default when it's open.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have several clips in the Timeline that I want to change the duration. I just want one frame taken away from each clip. So I click on the clip in the Timeline, then Control+D to show duration in the Dashboard. I type in the new duration I want, which is one frame less. It takes one frame off the Back of the clip. How do I get it to take the frame off the Front of the clip?

I'm having a strange problem with my dock and dashboard, whenever I add Items to either they quickly vanish, not allowing me to change them. With the dock, I can't add Flash CS4 to the dock, it will just appear, then disappear. With the dashboard, I can't add any widgets I've downloaded without the dashboard closing to desktop. I've tried reinstalling the widgets, no luck. Has anyone had this problem before, or know how to fix it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedPretty new to Apple products. I'm attempting to use an external monitor that is located above and behind my laptop. However, I can't find a way to set Snow Leopard to let me move the mouse from the primary laptop display upward into the auxiliary display.
Currently, I need to roll the mouse off the right edge of the laptop display to reach the left edge of the external display. Very counterintuitive.
I just bought an external HD for my Mac Mini as my media plus downloads were filling up my internal HD. Is the location of the Downloads Folder (and Movies) something that can be configured somewhere? I still want it to show up in my home folder. Is it as easy as deleting the old one and creating an alias for a Downloads folder located on my external HD?
View 4 Replies View RelatedBefore SL, when ever I downloaded a jpeg, wmv or similar it used to download to my desktop & not to downloads
Does anyone know how I can dictate where downloaded items go too?
Since the last upgrade I seem to have a problem changing the download location. Safari seems not to accept locations outside the home folder even with the same permissions (drwx------) and no log entries are generated. I've also tried 0777 with no success. Also, I've tried to create links to the external directory but it still defaults back to the home directory. I had some success with Automator - Finder move - but it gives me a 'disk full' error when downloading.

does anyone know where i can change the location of bluetooth-received files?
It defaults to my documents folder, but i remember in Panther it was in the bluetooth preference pane.
I want to take a screenshot, (using the standard shortcuts, command shift 3) which saves it to desktop. Don't ask why, but I want to save it to a folder, elsewhere on the hard drive and I have a lot of shots to take and don't want to keep selecting/moving, etc. Any way to change the default save location? By the way, running Tiger, 10.4.11 on a MacBook.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLooks like in syncing my iPad, it tries to place the backup of my device in MobileSyncBackup on my C boot drive, which is an SSD without space, even when my iTunes install and iTunes library folder is in my 2 TB D drive.
Is there any way to permanently make iTunes place its backup elsewhere?
Using my Win7 x64 machine, I transfered all of my songs to an external drive and then changed the default location of the iTunes Media Folder. However, if I disconnect the drive and then open iTunes it reverts back to the default path (%user%/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media). Is there any way to force iTunes to not change the folder location?

If I change from wifi location for example i go to work from home the following happens:Â the MBA will not fall a sleep resulting in a very hot MBA in my bag.the MBA will fall a sleep but it is not possible to wake it up againthe MBA will fall a sleep and is able to wake up again after opening the lid but now it will freeze the entire mac within 5-10 minutes.Â
I have to push the power button for a long time in either cases.Â
I just did a complete restore so i have no extra software installed.Â
I have a 27" i7 with a SSD and a HD. I use Gmail / Imap, but I store my message on my Mac so I can easily search through them.
However, my Gmail account is large enough that it fills my SSD. I need the mail application to store the message on the HD. I can't find an option to make that happen.
Anyone know of a work around?
As I use the web I often use shift + apple + 3 or 4 to take screen captures of things I like and want to remember.
This saves the file to the desktop. Is there a way to change the save location?
Also I've been then adding the clippings to a PS file but this is getting to time consuming and dull to manage.
Is there a better option?
I do really like the way I dont have to use another application to take the screen shot but there is no management...
On Windows it's possible to change where the Music, Pictures etc folders are located. I've tried doing this to the folders on my Mac (Music, Pictures etc) and I can't find anything! I've checked on Google.

View 3 Replies View Relatedin my itunes file in Windows directory, there is a compilations file. this file has albums in it that should not be there, but with other albums by the same bands. i have tried relocating the albums, but then itunes cannot play them, and when i locate the file it is automatically placed in a new compilations folder.
in short i am asking how i can change the location of a file in the itunes library. Any ideas?
when changing the network location from eg 'Automatic' to some location defined by myself, the system requires the admin-password.
is that correct? and if so, is there a way to allow a normal user to change locations without admin-rights?
iTunes does not recognize songs when I change the library location, and after I have clicked organize library.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIMAGINE I have 2 hard disk partitions on the SAME hard disk,
one is called 'Macintosh HD' and the other is called 'My Data'.
The Plan:
In the 'Macintosh HD', there are (1) system files & (2) users' settings.
In the 'My Data', there are all the music, pictures, etc.
For example, the 'Macintosh HD' has 40GB and the 'My Data' has 120GB.
All I want to do is to separate the SYSTEM and my DATA without migrating my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD' which contains folders called 'Music', 'Pictures'... to the partition 'My Data'.
I want to separate the system files and my data incase I need to reinstall the Mac OS X while leaving all my data untouched.
So the way I should do (I guess) is to leave my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD' empty,
and create files called, for example, 'My Music', 'My Pictures', etc. in the 'My Data' partition.
Then redirect the files 'Music', 'Pictures', etc. in my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD' to 'My Music', 'My Pictures', etc. in the 'My Data' partition.
In Windows XP or Windows 7, you can redirect those as using the methods below:
(1)[URL]
But I just don't know how to do that in Mac OS X, it seems that Mac OS X doesn't even provide a way for users to do so:
[URL]
I saw a reply in macrumors forum and tried to move the 'Music', 'Pictures', etc. folders,
but it turned out that those files were being copied, not moved.
So I can't move the 'Music', 'Pictures', etc. to the partition 'My Data' and make aliases of them which can be put in my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD'.
So, are there only 3 options for me too choose?
(1) stop trying to fight Apple and Mac OS X on where it puts things, just put all the things in my home folder inside 'Macintosh HD', using only 1 partition
(2) move my home folder to the other disk partition, in this case, the partition 'My Data'
(3) can't redirect the location of Music', 'Pictures', etc. folders in my home folder in the 'Macintosh HD', but just simply put things in the 'My Data'.
