So on my mac, I have changed all my names to the same thing, but when I go to open a folder it still appears as "JohnSmith". How can I change this? I already changed the settings(screenshots below) everything else that has my name right just not in finder.
When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.
I have inherited my uncle's computers and I'm having problems logging into his iMac G5 20". I have the original Tiger Install DVD, I put it in, restart, pressing C, etc., but the install DVD doesn't run and I just end up at the login screen. He also had an iBook G4 and I used the same trick to change the admin password - it worked just fine. Does anyone know why pressing C isn't starting up the install disk? Its the original.
ALSO: I've read of a workaround using the single-user password reset option that goes as follows: - start computer pressing Command-S - sh /etc/rc - password 'Uncle Paul' - enter a new password twice - reboot
I'm afraid to do it though, because I need to gain access to my uncle's files before I reinstall. My parents insist of getting all his pictures and stuff (he was also writing his autobiography.) Will doing the above Command-S measure mess with any of his files?
I've a bit weird question but I've googled for the answer with no success. If I'm right, there exist many ways how to recover, change or delete Admin password on Leopard or even Snow Leopard...1) With install disc you can boot up and reset master password, I'm not sure how it is in SL but in Leopard it worked for me..2) Other way is restart mac hold cmd+s and type couple of commands...well more here: Link3) Any other ways...maybe..don't know them.
How do I change the Admin password? I am listed as administrator, but the password was on the Mac when I bought it. I have tried every possible password and none that I have ever used work.
We have 5 macs in our family, all were configured under my iCloud account for the App store & I just used to log in with my iCloud account on my partner/daughters machines to do updates etc.
Daughter has now gone to Uni & I'd like to move her "App store account" side of things over to her own iCloud account so that she can continue doing updates etc. without needing me.
How do I go about changing this on her machine? I'm not looking to wipe the machine for resale etc. just give her the ability to carry out updates without needing my account details. There are a few minor apps installed on it from my Apple ID but nothing major that she'd worry about losing if she needed to remove them but what is the score in this area anyway?
I just got back from the Apple store with my new Mac Mini Server (I'm not using it as a server at all, just that the specs were better for me). I set it all up with minimum server settings and once it was all completed and saw my desktop, I rebooted. At the log in screen for the computer, I typed in my name and password as I set it up a few minutes before and it just gave me the shake.
Thinking I typed the password wrong when I set it up, I googled a trick to reset the admin [URL] and did it all again. Now the second time and 100% sure that I'm typing the password correctly, I'm still unable to login.
On 10.6.2, I noticed that in the Get Info window, permissions for a file could be changed without having to "unlock" the operation with the administrator password. This was not the case in Leopard, which required the admin password before permissions could be changed through the Get Info window.
I found this to be concerning from a security standpoint. I had hoped that 10.6.3 would fix the issue, but it still appears to be a problem. I've noticed this on three different machines, two with clean installs of 10.6 and one with an upgrade from 10.5. Does anyone else notice this issue? Am I right in assuming that this is a security issue? The ability for permissions to be changed for any file directly from the Finder's Get Info window without even an admin password seems to be rather insecure to me.
I have a Mac mini running OSX 10.4.11 that I purchased second-hand. It did not come with the original install discs. I want to give it to my grandson now that I have a new i-Mac, but cannot figure out how to remove myself from the Admin position and substitute him.
I am not the admin of the computer, but the admin gave me admin rights for a temporary time being, so when I went to login to my user it asked the question if i wanted to make some change or whatever, well appaerantly I clicked the wrong choice and i had the "Remember this choice" box clicked. So is there anyway to go back to change this?I have tried restarting and completely shutting down the comp, and taking admin rights off and putting them back on.
I created a new admin account, and now I need to get all folders like Music, Documents, Video etc from old admin account. So, if I loged in as a new admin I see all folders with red sign in the coner and don't have permistion to see them or move. What are my options?
I do have Time Machine backup from old admin account, but it also doesn't let me open folders from the new admin.
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.7), 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
I recently got my computer fixed and ended up getting a new one. it is a mac book laptop. I changed the password before it got sent and i completely forgot it. They backed my new laptop up with my old hard drive so now i got my old stuff on the new one. I want to download this application so i can fix this .zip file but i need the admin password. I've tried using the install discs but they tell me to enter the admin. I've tried putting the install disc in and pushing c on start up but it just freezes on the white screen with the apple. Is there something wrong with my computer? should i contact the insurance company who i dealt with?
I just used migration assistant to transfer to my new macbook pro. When i was doing this i needed to set up a new account/user as the one already on my new macbook pro is named the same as the one i was migrating from. With me?
What i want to do is delete the ORIGINAL account and be left with the new one, i migrated over, as the sole account (bar guest account and whatever else is usually there).
I can't seem to see any option for deleting the original account, the minus option is faded out when i highlight the Original account in "Accounts" in the System Pref. window.
I want to be able to change the computer icon on my new 2010 Mac mini. I've read several places that all of the icons are held in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources. Well, I've gone there, and I cannot find the Mac mini 2010 icon. Every single other computer is there, including the old pre-2010 minis, except for my computer itself. So, where is the icon in the system?
I've a mac mini, with two 24" Cinema Led displays. One display is connected directly to the mac mini (main screen) and one display is connected through a DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort Converter from Athlona (secondary screen). Yesterday I rebooted the machine and since the reboot I cannot change my main screens desktop background. I tried every solution from several fora on the net, but did not succeed to change it. I only have a solid gray colored background. Normally, when you select a wallpaper, it instantly changes the background. Now it doesn't. You can see it change in the "Desktop & Screensaver" menu, but nothing happens in real. Changing the background of the secondary screen is no problem. When I restart the machine, you can see that the solid gray colored background goes away and the original chosen wallpaper appears, but then closes because I restarted the system. On start-up of the system, you can see the original chosen wallpaper again for a few seconds, while the machine starts applications to open at login, and then suddenly changes again into the solid gray colored background.
I have got a last generation mini with the GMA 950 graphics. What I am wondering is wether I can change the amount of memory that is used by the graphics?
I am a new Mac user, just switched from PC. Problem is that I connected my mini thru its HDMI out with a HDMI cable to my 47in Phillips LCD in its HDMI in. Everything is working fine but because I sit on my bed and use it. I find it to be too small, if I change resolution then I guess I will be losing out on the 1080p and also will need to connect thru VGA not HDMI. Is there any way I can make things look bigger so I can read the txt and everything from far away. Also I am not using a keyboard (only a mouse) so don't think I can zoom. But still I don't want to zoom all the time. Is there any permanent solution.
I changed permissions for HD to no access for everyone, the Mini hang up, I had to force shutdown, ever since it is stuck on the apple and rotating bars, MacMini with OS X 10.7.2! I booted in asfe mode still stuck, repair permissions using the backup hd "10.7.2 after pressing shift key" did no fix!
I just installed a new ADSL modem/WiFi router from my ISP and now the Mini I have connected to the ADSL modem via ethernet cable has no Airport signal. With the previous ADSL modem/WiFi router I had to use internet sharing over airport from the Mini in order to get WiFi on my other computers. The old modem had WiFi, but I could only get one computer to connect to it, for all the other computers I just used internet sharing. The new modem/WiFi router will let all my computers onto the network, which is great.
My problem is that I use Mobile Air Mouse to use my iPhone as a mouse for the Mini. Since the modem/router upgrade I can't do that.
