Few days back I had installed Symantec PGP into Macbook Pro but now I don't remember it's password. So I want to reimage my Macbook Pro, but don't want to spend money on OS X.
So would I be able to install windows 7 or ubuntu by CD/bootable pendrive?
i am a new user of mac book pro..i tried to install windows xp (sp3) having partition of 60 GB in my mac hard drive ..then after restart it boots only winxp..not showing any part of Mac ox.

And I have made a mistake during I am installing the ceasar theme.
I did click on Install directly without running Theminator first.
So I ran it after I installed the theme which I did not know I must do the oppisite so finder now not working all apps are closing it self menubar gone
my OS just pissed of because of my rushness so is there anyway i can reset to the original theme from terminal? because I cannot install or open doing anything when i log to the OS.
I wonder if there is anyway to do the following to make using the windows on my Mac even more easy and simple: I have vmware fusion (recent version) installed on my Mac and viewed under "Unity" so the Windows and Mac apps are all viewed on the Mac desktop. What I want to do is to be able to install windows apps ".exe" that are downloaded under Mac directly on windows with just double clicking on the file that is in the Mac platform while vmware is already launched or not yet. I tried some methods like opening files with "exe" extension directly by vmware but that won't work, I don't know what else to try.

I do understand that Parallels has Transporter, but what I do know is that it is some sort of "migration". Once "migrated", the Windows cannot be booted on a PC again. Am I right? (So, this solution won't work.) My scenario is that I use a Mac at home, but I need to boot into Windows to do some office work (of course, using my Mac). -Partitioned it with bootcamp assistant to Mac(220gb) and Windows(100gb)
-loaded Windows vista on bootcamp partition
-Installed VMWare fusion to use windows vista from bootcamp partition
-All my docs pics are in mac partition
-With vmware i can access files from windows and mac but when i need to boot directly into windows i should be able to use the docs and pics from the mac partition directly.. (eg i am using picasa to arrange my pics i should be able to get the pics folder mapped in windows somehow.
There are two tools I've found that will let you reboot into Windows straight out of Mac OS X, without having to change your startup disk or hold down the option button at boot:

I'm running OS X 10.6.2 and Windows 7. Neither of these works for me. When I try to reboot into Win7 using Quickboot, my unibody Macbook Pro just does a regular reboot and I land right back in OS X. Flipside does not even list my Bootcamp partition after its initial scan. When I select the Bootcamp partition manually using Flipside's "manual mode", I get this message: "Unable to set that volume as a startup volume. See the log for more info."
I did install Win7 *before* Apple announced official Bootcamp support for Windows 7. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but there it is. Also, when booting into Windows, do any of you get that black screen with the blinking underscore in the top left corner that just blinks around for a good 20 seconds or so before actually commencing to boot Windows? I always wonder what the hell the point of that screen is other than to make me wait..
I opened up a partition a few weeks ago b/c I needed to use a windows program that I no longer need. I was getting tired of having to hold alt-option to choose my HD everytime I started, so I deleted the partition. Now, I still have to go through the same process everytime I power up, even though I only have the Mac HD - I have to hold down alt/option when I start up and then click on the Mac HD button. What do I do to make it go straight to Mac?

If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? It was, surprisingly a blank CD. I put in my second one. It did show BOOTCAMP this time, but it only had the options 'Remote Install Mac OS X' and 'DVD or CD sharing'. I couldn't install them. What is wrong with this. I am certain that the package wasn't fake, since I have the Macbook Pro here, but why doesn't the install CDs work?

But I did not know why I cannot reboot the Windows after the distribution completed (I had a Sumsung mobile DVD-ROM which works well when I use it to install apps). With my old Macbook 2010, of course, which had a DVD-ROM inside, it will automatically reboot into Windows installation . According to the Boot Camp, the 1st step is to make a ISO-image of Windows 7.

Ok, Here is the scoop. I am trying to get Wifi to work on my macbook while on XP. When I put in the disk and it says "The package requires a newer version of Windows Installer. Would you like to update?" I say yes and it says "The requires resoruce update is missing." and if I click no it says "The operation is aborted." or something.

I want a Windows partition of 35-40GB.On first attempt I kept getting the cannot move files error when trying to partition. I read up on the error online, and most people suggested issues with parallels or needing to use idefrag. I had parallels on my machine at one point, but am not sure if there are any problem folders still hiding somewhere. Any tips on that part?I ran idefrag overnight last night. so i have a windows XP professional disk, SP2 and all. i am trying to install windows, i get as far as partitioning the disk, but once it says "please insert XP disk" i do that, and it will think for a few minutes, and make a loud noise [coming from the mac] then a message pops up and says 'please insert installation disk.' the disk is brand new, what am i doing wrong? should i be partitioning the windows side larger?

I have heard, I will encounter following issues:
- battery will drain faster
- graphics driver for x64-bit version
- camera
- iPhone backups and syncs (music, video, cal, contacts and apps)
- I would need a external mouse for right click.
I can live with all of the above problems except graphics card drivers. Can anyone provide feedback or useful links they have refered to installing Windows 7?
I have just installed Windows 7 via bootcamp and everything went smoothly, the only problem is that i have lost my DVD of snow leopard and want to install the 3.2 drivers on windows 7, however it is to my understanding that i need to install 3.0 from the DVD first. Is there any way around this without ordering another copy of snow leopard? ?25 might not seem a lot but on a student budget i would rather not shell out.

However, neither of these comes in the form of a CD image. They are both .exe files. Parellels asks for a CD or CD image. Is there a way to install windows 98 from an .exe in parallels?
And if so will I be able to use the windows xp upgrade once i have windows 98 installed? I haven't yet tried creating a CD image with the exe file on it. I don't know if this would work because it's all in one file and not a typical windows install disk.
Is it possible to install Windows 7 on an internal disk via Boot Camp and then remove this disk and use it as an external drive? I have two drives for my mini, one in use and one in an external case; unfortunately, neither have room for everything plus Windows. If the answer to this question is no, then I'll buy a bigger drive. I'd just like to avoid this if possible (I already have a ton of external drives and not enough ports to plug them into).

I have installed a partition using BootCamp of 45GB but once it prompts me to insert the Windows disk, I insert it but after a few seconds the machine ejects the disk without ever mounting or seemingly recognizing the disk.
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from a disk.
Can anyone offer any insight or help me figure out what the problem is? I have already tried rebooting and that doesn't work.
