MacBook Pro :: Can't Restore Dock To Defaults

Jul 5, 2012

I installed DockDoctor a little while ago just so I could change the dock color based on the wallpaper I had. Well, I tried to change it again today, and it wouldn't move back to its default, nor would it change to any other colors. I restarted the dock several times, I deleted the com.apple.Dock.plist file and restarted it through Terminal, but even that didn't do the trick.

OS X :: How To Restore Icons Back To Defaults

Nov 26, 2010

I recently changed the dock and most of the icons to custom ones and I would like to restore them all back to default. But since I no longer have the originals, I can't just copy paste each and everyone back. So how would I do this? I tried installing the combo updater hoping it would overwrite it all, but no go. I just found you can get info on an icon and then press delete or cmd+X, but it doesn't work on Mail. It erases the icon and gives me the generic "no icon" icon (white paper with writing utensils).

OS X :: Restore Default Dock Graphic?

Dec 1, 2010

A while back I downloaded a program called Dock Doctor in order to mess with my dock graphics. Unfortunately it, never really worked right, so I decided to remove it. When I removed it, my dock kept the last setting it had from when Dock Doctor was installed, and I am unable to get it back to the default. I have tried everything I can think of. I deleted the files from the library > preferences which deal with the dock, and that didn't help. I then tried to install both cleardock, which wouldn't install (gives me an error), and cleardock, who's settings don't seem to be changing my dock at all. Something dock doctor did seems to have completely locked my dock graphics down and nothing I do seems to be able to fix it.

OS X :: How To Restore Dock (Back To Normal)

Jul 17, 2009

I installed Cleardock [makes the dock transparent] and I tried getting rid of it by going into user/library/preferences and deleting com.apple.dock.plist. However now my dock is still clear but also reflective [see pic]. So then I tried to reinstall cleardock then uninstall it but that didn't work [I did a killall Dock to reset it]. I also read on a forum how to restore my dock to the default but that just gave me back the default application icons. So how can I get my dock back to normal! And if it helps I have time machine back ups from before my dock was like this.

MacBook Pro :: Restoring Brand New System To Factory Defaults

Jul 28, 2010

I migrated my old MBP to my new one last night. Everything was good except that I could not log onto my schools network. I have had this problem since my old MBP. I figured that by migrating my 'Preferences' I migrated the problem along with. After many attempts at many work-arounds, I decided that I will just start fresh.

Here is what I have done:
1) I popped in the factory disc and held 'C'
2) Utility ->Disk Utility ->Erase. I selected the Hard drive. The one in the top of the hierarchy. This also cleared the name of 'Macintosh HD' to 'Untitled'.

Now I did not realize that I was supposed to rename my hard drive "before" clicking erase. This is not a big deal, but was just wondering if I will be able to change that later? Do you think that when I go to use migration assistant this next time, if I only opt to migrate "Files and Folders" and "Applications" this will most likely solve my network configurations problem? That is, it will leave my network settings at the factory defaults so I start fresh?

MacBook Air :: Desktop Icon Defaults To Tiny Size

My desktop icon size CONTINUALLY defaults to a very tiny size.  I know where to change the size > click on desktop > show view options > adjust icon size; however, inevitably as soon as I close it out, it defaults back to a very tiny size..I mean VERY tiny.  So I have to continually do the above procedure to increase the size again. Doesn't look like there is a way to LOCK that desktop icon size.

OS X :: Won't Get File Association To Defaults

Apr 10, 2009

I'm trying to figure out how to restore file associations to their defaults, but not as a blanket setting for all files of the same general type. Before I made the mistake of resetting it, .jpg files that had been opened and saved in PhotoShop automatically opened in PhotoShop when clicked. Any .jpg files that had NOT already been saved in PhotoShop defaulted to Preview.app.

I had an issue with a couple of older image files and opened the file info on one of them. Without thinking, I told all files of the type to open in PhotoShop (guess I was thinking I was applying the change to just that folder. Wrong.)

Now, I can only get one or the other option for all .jpg's, not both. All Preview or all PhotoShop.

Does anyone know of a way of bringing back the original dual-opening behavior? It may not seem like a big deal, but I work with thousands of images each day and having Leopard differentiate between them makes a big difference in work flow.
