View 1 RepliesI used a program to change the background of my stacks grid to a different colour and I can't get the dock back to it's defaults. If anyone knows a terminal cmd or a program that can change this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently changed the dock and most of the icons to custom ones and I would like to restore them all back to default. But since I no longer have the originals, I can't just copy paste each and everyone back. So how would I do this? I tried installing the combo updater hoping it would overwrite it all, but no go. I just found you can get info on an icon and then press delete or cmd+X, but it doesn't work on Mail. It erases the icon and gives me the generic "no icon" icon (white paper with writing utensils).
View 3 Replies View RelatedSet the computer to output to speakers, keyboard vol controls etc control the speaker sounds and "pop" out of the speakers.
Sleep the system and it reverts back to the internal speaker, even tho the output from iTunes, Quicktime or whatever comes out of the speakers.
Does this happen to anybody else?
I installed DockDoctor a little while ago just so I could change the dock color based on the wallpaper I had. Well, I tried to change it again today, and it wouldn't move back to its default, nor would it change to any other colors. I restarted the dock several times, I deleted the com.apple.Dock.plist file and restarted it through Terminal, but even that didn't do the trick.

Whenever I update to the new operating system when it is released next month, is it possible to update while restoring to factory defauts at the same time?

I migrated my old MBP to my new one last night. Everything was good except that I could not log onto my schools network. I have had this problem since my old MBP. I figured that by migrating my 'Preferences' I migrated the problem along with. After many attempts at many work-arounds, I decided that I will just start fresh.
Here is what I have done:
1) I popped in the factory disc and held 'C'
2) Utility ->Disk Utility ->Erase. I selected the Hard drive. The one in the top of the hierarchy. This also cleared the name of 'Macintosh HD' to 'Untitled'.
Now I did not realize that I was supposed to rename my hard drive "before" clicking erase. This is not a big deal, but was just wondering if I will be able to change that later? Do you think that when I go to use migration assistant this next time, if I only opt to migrate "Files and Folders" and "Applications" this will most likely solve my network configurations problem? That is, it will leave my network settings at the factory defaults so I start fresh?
My desktop icon size CONTINUALLY defaults to a very tiny size. I know where to change the size > click on desktop > show view options > adjust icon size; however, inevitably as soon as I close it out, it defaults back to a very tiny size..I mean VERY tiny. So I have to continually do the above procedure to increase the size again. Doesn't look like there is a way to LOCK that desktop icon size.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out how to restore file associations to their defaults, but not as a blanket setting for all files of the same general type. Before I made the mistake of resetting it, .jpg files that had been opened and saved in PhotoShop automatically opened in PhotoShop when clicked. Any .jpg files that had NOT already been saved in PhotoShop defaulted to Preview.app.
I had an issue with a couple of older image files and opened the file info on one of them. Without thinking, I told all files of the type to open in PhotoShop (guess I was thinking I was applying the change to just that folder. Wrong.)
Now, I can only get one or the other option for all .jpg's, not both. All Preview or all PhotoShop.
Does anyone know of a way of bringing back the original dual-opening behavior? It may not seem like a big deal, but I work with thousands of images each day and having Leopard differentiate between them makes a big difference in work flow.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'd like to start a presentation, insert a text box, set the font to 12 points and now "save this as my default" for all other text boxes that I create in this presentation. In older versions there was a checkbox for a lot of things - if you changed the line style you could check "save this as my new default" etc. Is this functionality gone?

When calling the find command in finder (cmd-f), search criteria are by default set to Kind is Any. I'd like to add some, e.g. Sytem files are included (instead of having to do this manually in almost every search). Can't find anything on this in the net.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got an iMac I'm selling and I'd rather delete the settings and accounts somehow than sit in front of it for 2 hours swapping CD's to reinstall Tiger.
I understand that in Single-User Mode you can delete the Admin account and therefore restore the machine, so that when you turn it on the next time and it doesn't detect any settings it gives you the Tiger intro, albeit annoying.
So? Anyone haz the command?
Also, post any commands for any other OS' to help OTHER forum guests, I know this would help a lot of people out with their for-sale Macs and new-used Macs.
Every now and then some of my email body copy and sometimes header information defaults to Helvetica Fractions and becomes unreadable. Even when I go into mail preferences and play with the fonts going from the default set to others it doesn't alter from the helv. frac. font. The only way I can force a font change is to go into the font utility in the OS Dock and disable the helvetica fraction font, and then it works but I lose the use of that font. Its not so much that I mind losing helvetica fractions, but I would sure like to just fix it.

Like an idiot I thought I'd try switching user agents as I was messing around with iPhone optimising a few web pages. So I saw in Safari 4.0.4 on my iMac, the Develop menu, where I changed the user agent to "iPhone xxx". I then switched back to auto detecting user agent. Ever since then, the google.co.uk page has screwed up, as it always loads in mobile view, and not the classic view it used to: This is what I always get now whenever I visit google.co.uk: When I click on the "Classic View" link, I get this page, which displays correctly: Notice the extra text in the URL... which I shouldn't have to put that everytime! Strangely google.com loads up fine: I have deleted all cookies associated with "google" and also rebooted my iMac, but still google.co.uk defaults to the classic view. I tried forcing the User Agent to Safari 4.0.4, but it didn't make any difference as it still loads in mobile view! Here are the cookies I have now which relate to google.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI don't print much full color and when I do print I'd like to back off of the higher quality printing to save on ink. Does anyone know how to change the default to print a rough draft [and save some ink] rather than printing using a lot of black ink? Also, I cannot print in MS Word. I can print anywhere else, like stickies or whatever. However, my wife [on her account] can print everywhere even in MS Word.
I get an error message saying: Word could not communicate with the printer. There are several possible reasons: *Your printer or its driver may not be set up correctly or there may be a problems with the network connection. You may need to adjust your printer settings. *There may be a bad connection between your computer and printer. Like I said my wife and I share this 27" iMac and she can print fine on her account but I cannot print using MS Word.
This is bad and old, and full of lessons about backing up. Anyway, internal boot drive crashed a week ago, and internal optical drive is busted. New external LaCie dvd burner works fine, but all attempts to start up from Tiger, Leopard and Diskwarrior installation disks just end up back in OS10.3 on my external LaCie FW drive. I've tried many things: unplugged everything; switched external LaCie to USB (wouldn't boot), unplugged power from internal optical drive so Mac wouldn't look there first (somebody suggested that). Attempts to start up installers from mounted DVDs result in installer screen with restart button, which, when clicked on, results in... you guessed it... boot back to dreaded 10.3 system. Night owls and westcoasters, I am up for hours yet, pulling hair.
