MacBook Pro :: CPU Temperature Is 20C More Than The CPU Heat Sink During Heavy Loading?
Apr 23, 2010
I got my macbook pro core i7 yesterday. I found that the cpu temperature is 20C more than the cpu heatsink. is it a problem of my mbp? just curious to ask because it is just 2~6 degree Celsius varying in my mac mini.

I Got a 13 inch MBP and gave my 13 inch aluminum MB to my dad. However i noticed something with the new MBP i got. A)After installing istat pro on both machines only the older MB shows as having Heatsink A and B, the new MBP shows as only having Heat sink B, how come? The aluminum MB on boot up has all the temps (CPU, Heat sinks, HD and so on) going around 20-30 degrees FH, yet the MBP is coming up with 90-130 degrees FH. After 1 hour use the MB has all reading between 28-48 yet the MBP has all readings between 90-140 degrees FH. Both kept in the same room, doing the exact same thing (running safari, same site). I just dont want the nightmare i had with the MBA where i had to return it 3 times because it would over heat and crawl when doing anything slightly intensive. Mine are:
HD MACINSTOSH 83
CPU 131
ENCLOSURE BASE 90
ENCLOSURE BASE 2 90
ENCLOSURE BASE 3 89
ENCLOSURE BASE 4 91
HEATSINK B 113
NORTHBRIDGE 108

What is your heat sink temp when the cpu is running hot, like 90+ degree C?
I recently performed the excess thermal compound removal procedure. Now I am worried that my cpu and heat sink are not in 100% contact, due to the very small amount of paste applied.
My heat sink sits at around 50C under normal load (cpu temp ~ 60). But at high load, cpu up at 90+ C, my heat sink is still at around 50-60C. Is this normal?

So, at my college, some departments own Mac Pros; one of them decided that they would like to fit the Mac Pro into a smaller space, so they cut ALL the handles off, which of course removed the heat sink, so the computer overheats. Long story short, the computer ended up in our tech trash, and I took it, DUH it's so beautiful (even without the handles). How can I make this computer usable? Would a water cooling system do it?

I just bought a G5 case to house my Quad Core 2.4GHz hackintosh, and would like to overclock it. The only problem is, I don't want to have heat issues, of course. What would the best heat sink be to use that would still fit inside the G5 case?Could I maufacture/build/hack together my own heat sink?Should I just put it into a refrigerated case

At my university there was a flood during christmas break while I was away, and my office had about 8 inches of water in it. When I got back, I saw the damages and was quite sad to see my mac pro filled up with dirt and debris.
So I cleaned it out and tried to boot it up and amazingly it works almost perfectly...in fact I am typing this on that mac pro. The only damage is that the fans now run at 2500rpms all the time.
So Here are my temps from iStat. It seems like maybe the sensor for CPU B and the north bridge are messed up. Anyone have any experience with fixing/replacing those parts? I am wondering if my diagnosis is correct and what is the best way to fix this machine.

My CPU heat sink fans always run above 2000 rpm. Is that avoidable?
Can I do something about that to drop the speed and get rid of the noise?

so i've got a system with a fried c2d board. i can pick up a cd board for $150 plus shipping which is good for me. to find a comparable replacement, i'm looking at ~350 and i'm just not feelin that price as im on a budget.
i'm not concerned about the speed decrease as im just trying to get this thing rebuilt.
i understand that there are different heatsink assemblys..vertical vs horizontal. however, i do not know how to tell the difference and i am also unsure whether or not my c2d heatsink will work on this board i receive.
the logicboard possess a t7300 c2d and model # is 820-2279-a, it appears.
i cant find anything on that model, except for on ebay.
and i totally cant find the serial number on this macbook. under the battery on the tray has no serial number listed, and i've read through this documentation [URL]

I noticed that iStat and Temperature Monitor report different temperatures for the same readings on my G5 Powermac Dual Processor System. For example as I am writing this Temperature Monitor is saying My CPU A is 46.8C and CPU B is 46.7C. In iStat it says CPU A is 55C and CPU B is 54C. Which is right!?

I apologists straight away if this have been covered recently, but i need to ask.I have MacBook with Intel Core Due Processor, 2 GB ram. What is the average temperature CPU temperature for standard usage ( I know that standard usage is very arbitrary, and by this I assume safari, iTunes and let say Pages to be the only major apps running ).I use iStat pro widget and according to it my CPU temperature is 55*C. Is this too high? Lately the fan has been turning on more recently almost without any apps running so I think that there might be some hardware problem. I ran HardwareTest it found nothing.
The macbook is 2 yrs old. Do i need to get it cleaned or is there something else I should be worrying about?

Comparing the updated MacBook air and pro 13 inch, for the high end version of both models, which laptop comes out better for performance? Add the 8GB of Memory instead of 4GB and potentially the 2.0GHz i7 upgrade to the air and does it bring it up to higher level than the pro? Primary use is for study needs (so portability is important) as well as music, videos, and games such as the GTA's, sports games and games like Civ V. Is the pro too heavy? Is the air to structurally flimsy?

Just bought a 23" dell monitor and BT keyboard (already have wireless Logitech mouse) to use with my late 2008 MBP.
Almost immediately I noticed I was getting frequent 'Connection to Keyboard lost' errors, almost 100% of the time this happens the Wifi is under heavy use moving large files to my NAS for example.
I searched Apple support and this appears to be quite common and 1 suggestion was to change my airport extreme base station to use 5GHz instead of 2.4GHz for the network. This tweak seems to have solve the issue 100%, the only downside is not all of my kit can use 5GHz .. for my work laptop I've invested in a new wifi adapter that'll cope but my Apple TV and iPhone can no longer connect to the WLAN.
Anyone else have an alternative solution for this? Or is it pure and simple down to BT interference and I should perhaps ditch the BT keyboard for a wired one?

i was playing Diablo3 when i suddenly experienced heavy, unusual lag. I tried to reboot to see if that could even things out. No success. It took longer then usual to boot up, and when i finally reached the login-windows asking for password, it wouldent react to my typing and clicking for about 5 minutes. I could move around the mouse and the keyboard did get signal (it un-dimmed the scren when i pushed any key after letting it dim over time).
Then i tried to do a clean install of OS X Snow Leopard (formating the drive and then install). After longer then usual, reached the "choose your language" window. This window too had extreem long respond-time. I managed to start the installation but it stopped at 33minutes remaining, giving me the "Install Failed" window. this told me "Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer. The installer could not copy the necessary support fies. Click restart to restart your computer and try again.". I tried it again but it gave me the same result.
it made me believe the hardware was the problem. First i swapped the Optical Drive with an older vrsion MacBook (2008), this gave me the same install-problem (stopped at 33mins left) Then i swapped HDD with the older MacBook. It managed to boot and start "normally" with exactly the same problems as the original HDD. The first thing that gets to my mind is that something might be fried inside the computer.
I restored the original HDD with TimeMachine (needless to say i still got the problem). I'm in the middle of my exam-papers, so its reaelly annoying its happening now.I also tried installing OS X SL using an external HDD with an image of the installer disk made in disk utilities, but this only gives me "kernel error" during booting (the annoying dimmed screen with a black box in the middle telling you to restart).
Today i took a look in the Activity Monitor and it shows the CPU acting strange, spending 100-120% on kernel_task ALL the time (see added picture). Is something wrong with the CPU? Is it possible to fry only one core in a CPU leaving the others intact?I have different components available for change as long as they match each other (Macbook pro 2010 and MacBook 2008).

I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.

Earlier today, maybe around 3PM, I was using my laptop, and it was charging and it was maybe around 60% battety life when out of no where it just shut off and even the light on my charger went out. When I turned it back on, the fan was running and there was an X over the battery icon. I've tried turning it off and on, and leaving it alone for a few hours, to see if it would resolve the problem but it didn't. It is currently 9:52PM, I'm still experiencing these problems and I'm using the exact laptop to type this, but I don't know how much battery life is left.

I bought Brand New Macbook pro 15" Late 2011 Ci7, this is incredible machine. But a month past and i started to notice a very strange behavior: When i using mac for resource "Eating" application or processes my computer starts to Heat-this is normal.
When i close all the apps here starts interesting) I have Istat installed, so i can see what temps are in my system. Computer is cooling, and when cpu reaches 50-55 degrees (Celsium, from 80 degrees, because of heavy load) ,my left speaker produces a single loud pop sound. (like something turning of may be)

I am currently editing lots of pdfs and other files for notes. There is one particular big file, ca. 300 MB (part of a book). When I edit this file in Preview (underlining etc.) and save my changes, I loose almost the whole size of the file in disk space.
Saving 10 times, that equals ca. 3 GB. Since I am a diligent "back-upper", I loose ca. 3 GB every 90 minutes. Over the last 3 days, this has consumed more or less 40 GB of my storage space. I have restarted several times and had to delete a lot of files; the sleepimage file is ca. 1 GB big only, so that is not the problem;so I have used "Disk Utility" to localize the massive space use.
Disk utility registers the storage loss in total numbers (35 GB free, next time only 32 GB free), but not within the folders (the single sizes of the folders -Application; Library; User etc-), their sizes stay the same!what happened to my disk space. I need to restore those 40 GB they are being used by something completely useless somewhere.

Product Name - MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)
Processor - 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory - 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Serial Number - C02J1192DKQ4
OS - OSX 10.10 .1(Yosemite)
Problem - It happened couple of time, earlier it happened when I was opening "Nordstorm.com" (I know, it was Black Friday time ) and it happened yesterday again, while opening VICE.com. When the problem occurs, machine hangs and after some time I can move cursor, but can't do anything. I have to hard restart the machine. after machine restarts, it shows a popup saying that a graphics problem detected and do you want to report it.
I suggested switching off "graphics switching" from energy menu in system preferences. even that crashed the machine first time when I tried that. So I have graphics switching off for now. Don't know for sure if it is OSX bug, Chrome/Browser bug or something else.

I do not own any Mac at home, but looking into one for college. I have read up on all the pros/ cons of the MBA (non-removable battery and RAM, lack of ports and optical drive, etc). I am not a computer gamer, so I stick to the consoles. I was wondering if a MBA is ideal for any kind of music production. Can it handle heavy music editing with GB or Logic Pro? Is it ideal with the somewhat "lack" of external ports? share your opinions and/ or experiences with music production for fun or work on a MBA. (By the way, I am asking this to decide whether I should be looking into a MBA or MBP for college September of 2009, so I have LOTS of time to wait for newer models).

Ever since the last QT update 7.6, my AVIs are so pixelated to the point where it's no use for me to edit them in FCP. They're more like thick white blocks that completely distort the image. I have both Perian and Flip4Mac up to date. I'm also using MPEG Streamclip to convert to a more friendly h.264 clip.

i think my macbook is running rather hot lately as I have the fan set at 6200(max) and it seems to idle at 50C and I had skype running with a few people and it was reaching 80C! It never used to get that high before! It is a Dec31st 06 (lol 1 day from 07) model and I do have the ability to open these models and apply the thermal paste again as I have done plenty times before and also fit Mac Pro serviceable options such as BT and AP
I know how to open it and clean it but theres no dust in it to make it that hot I might have to try max load and see if it overheats

The aluminium obviously heats up easilyShould I avoid using it in the sunlight? Are there any addons i can get to keep it cool? Anyone know anything?Temperatures here in southern Spain now in the summer tend to be around 30?c (air temperature) but more in direct sunlight.
