MacBook Pro :: Bought New High - End 15" - Speakers Shake Palmrest?

Feb 27, 2010

I have been lurking around the forum for quite some time. I decided to pick up a macbook pro today because I was able to get a pretty good educational discount. I have the 15" MacBook Pro top end with the matte screen. Everything seems perfect right now. However, even when the volume is at 50%, and I play something that has bass in it, the RIGHT palm rest shakes/vibrates a lot, and you can feel it. It is a tad bit annoying.

MacBook :: High Frequency Ringing Sound When Both External Monitor & Speakers Are Connected?

Jan 8, 2009

I searched the archives and I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet! This is a huge problem on both my Rev A and my new Rev B. When you connect an external monitor and external speakers using the headphone output, there is a high frequency ringing sound coming out of the speakers. I've managed to live with it by turning the treble to minimum and keeping the volume low enough but at the expense of sound quality. The strange part is, if you disconnect the monitor, the ringing sound stops. The problem only occurs if you have speakers and monitor plugged in at the same time. I've tried this on my Samsung monitor, my SONY TV, and my Panasonic audio receiver. The problem occurs with both Rev A and Rev B while my white MacBook and 2007 MacBook Pro all sound fine.

Hardware :: Looking For Mid To High End Desktop Speakers

Dec 22, 2010

I'm looking to move my 35+ year old bookshelf speakers away from my desk to my TV as part of a revamp of my desk as a whole. I want to of course move my receiver with those speakers, so I am looking for a set of independent desktop speakers (that is, no receiver) that are fairly compact. My budget is not very limiting, I'm good with up to $600, maybe $700, but naturally for those prices for desktop speakers I'm looking for incredible sound, which can be tough to get out of compact speakers.

My requirements are that, sound quality - really aiming high with that - and aesthetics. I want something to compliment my 27" LED Cinema Display and 15" MacBook Pro, on an mStand. I'm picky about aesthetics, I won't lie - M-Audio's stuff is too ugly, for example. I understand that this is limiting, but don't say I didn't warn you about the pickiness. I'm looking for either 2.0 or 2.1, most likely the former. I'm not going to 5.1, just not what I need, and honestly I'd prefer to go without a sub. I do need to be able to get some good volume out of these things sometimes, though not particularly regularly. Again, picky, I know.

I've scouted out a couple candidates so far, but I know I've only scratched the surface.Swans M10 - I've heard good things, but they're towards the lower end of my budget and are only satisfactory in the aesthetics department (look a bit cheap, especially that blue lit knob) Paradigm MilleniaOne 2.0 - I've heard little about these ones because they're quite new to the market, but they seem to fit my requirements.

Bowers & Wilkins MM1 - I've heard generally good things, they look pretty damn good. One concern I had is getting some volume out of them.I know step 1 is to check them out in person, I'd never buy speakers without doing that - but some preliminary suggestions would be helpful! Headed to a shop tomorrow, hopefully, to check out some of their stuff (I know they have the MM1's).

Mac Pro :: High Quality Eclipse TD307PA II Speakers

May 15, 2008

I'm after some really nice speakers for my nice new Mac Pro and don't know what to get... Seen the Eclipse TD307PA II Speaker and Amplifier on the Apple site and they look great, price is a bit expensive but the wife has said "Yes!" ;O) I want some decent sound to either listen to music, possibly playback something I've created and watch a movie or two. I wouldn't call myself an sound enthusiast or anything, just want some decent quality.

OS X :: IMac G5 Speakers Don't Seem To Be Able To Handle High Pitched Sound In A Movie?

May 20, 2010

I have a 24" aluminum iMac G5. I have never had a problem with sound before, and feel like this problem is isolated to a certain DVD but the DVD works on EVERY other player I own. Everything pretty much plays DVDs, so that's many!

So here's my problem: There's parts of this movie that have very high pitched sounds, like electronic sounds that are just sound effects in the movie. Whenever I get to those parts in this movie (maybe even other movies for all I know, I don't play many) and the sound goes quiet, like the speakers can't handle that high pitched sound.

I feel there must be something I can do about it, right? I just use the regular default DVD player application that pops up when I put a DVD in. I tried playing with that equalizer but nothing changed.

Mac Pro :: High-pitch Noise Coming From External Speakers When Play A File

Apr 2, 2012

I just bought a pair of the Rokit 5 external speakers. When I plug them into a Mac Pro (Tower) I get a high-pitched hum from the speakers each time I try to play a sound. So if I go into System Preferences/Audio, and I try to play a sound, the high-pitch is heard as the sound plays, and for a second or two after, then it goes away, and is heard again each time I try to play a sound. Same with when I play something thru iTunes or any of my audio apps.

If  do the exact same thing playing from a Macbook, I do not have that problem at all, the sound is nice and clear with no high-pitch sound.

I have the speakers plugged in using 1/4 inch jacks to an external sound card (MBox), and this audio card is plugged USB into the Mac.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

IMac :: High-pitched Frequency With External Speakers / Connected Via Firewire Audio Interface

Apr 14, 2004

I hope I'm not double posting. Have any of the other new iMac owners experienced weird frequencies coming from external speakers that are connected to their iMacs?

For example: I have a set of studio monitors that are hooked up to my iMac using a firewire audio interface. Whenever I'm copying data I get an extremely high-pitched frequency coming from my speakers that sounds like my hard drive spinning. Also, whenever I'm scrolling or moving the magic mouse I get a loud buzzing coming from the speakers (especially when scrolling). None of this stuff happened with my previous 20" iMac C2D. I have experienced this issue with all three of the 27" iMacs that I have gone through thus far (due to the yellow tint issue). Does this sound like something I'm just going to have to live with. All of these high pitched frequencies are driving me batty!

ITunes :: Airplay Can't Connect To Remote Speakers Or Multiple Speakers When Speakers Are Visible In It

Apr 22, 2012

I have iTunes 10.6.1 (7) an Airport Extream Version 6.0 Airport Utility (600.92) That I use with two airport express stations, an Apple TV 2nd Generation with latest software up date.  Also have Ipad 3rd Generation and two I phone 4's. Issue:  After installing the latest Airport Utility software update I'm unable to connect to my remote speakers in iTunes.   The speakers are visible in the pop up menu but iTunes times out when trying to connect.  If I use remote to select Apple TV and then via Apple TV select my Computers Library I'm able to play music on the Apple TV / Home Speakers... but still not the Airport Express Stations.

When using remote on the iPhone or iPad the speakers are visible as well but I'm unable to select them... iTunes times out. I can steam music from that is on my iPhone or iPad to each individual speaker, but multiple speaker control is not available and the music from my library is not available. I believe the problem is in the Airplay feature of iTunes and I believe the problems arise when you install the latest version of Airport Utility.   You can play on remote speakers, only one at a time, and only if you have the music on a stand alone device (iPhone or iPad)... in summary, bypass iTunes and you can be successful... marginally successful.

MacBook :: Cracking Near The Palmrest Area

Mar 24, 2009

I've read some posts about macbooks cracking near the palmrest area. Since I bought my macbook in May 2008, my macbook has developed a number of random cracks and chips. Here are some examples:

- About 2 inches of the bezel on the top left of the screen has peeled off after cracking.
- Again, about 2 inches of plastic cracked and peeled off near where the optical drive is.
- Horizontal crack on the top of the little indent to open the macbook

Unfortunately, there isn't an apple store near me so I can't really take it in to have them check it out. Does apple typically fix these for free? I'm a bit worried because I am extremely careful with the macbook yet these cracks and chips continue to show up. Given that there isn't an apple store near me, how exactly would I resolve this problem?

MacBook Pro :: Popping Sound From Right Palmrest?

Oct 3, 2009

The other day while using my MBP, I heard a 'pop' sound as I lifted my palm off the palmrest. I could duplicate the sound by pushing on the middle of the right palmrest. Turns out it is coming from the battery compartment door!

After it happened again, I determined it was when I had the slider door open and cool breeze was coming in. The cooler temps make metals contract and the fit wasn't so good apparently. Now I have a piece of thin cardboard sitting between the HD and the battery door to keep my sanity.

MacBook :: Casing Cracked On The Palmrest / Requires Repair?

Apr 26, 2009

I have a 2,1 White MacBook from 2007. Early last year, 2009, my casing cracked on the palmrest. I know this is an extremely common problem and the repairs are fully covered by Apple, regardless of warranty. My case also has a few of the hairline cracks near the exhaust vent and hinge.

I have yet to have these problems repaired. At first I just didn't feel like going to an Apple store. Now that the MacBook casing has changed to the unibody design, I wonder if the future repair will be affected for better or worse.

I have AppleCare for four years, until 2011.

Does anyone know how Apple is fixing these casing problems in 2010 now that the unibody MacBooks are out? I expect it is very likely that Apple has plenty of the old hardware on hand, but I would like to think I could get a very nice uMB upgrade for free, even if I need to wait longer to get it.

MacBook Pro :: Palmrest Protector By Moshi Monde W/ Pics

Aug 13, 2009

Just wanted to let my fellow macbook/pro fans out there that this palmrest rocks! I installed it on my MBP 13 and the color matching is 99% perfect and you can barely tell it's an add on. This also came with a trackpad protector. The build on this thing is spectacular, I highly recommend it. I bought it at MicroCenter for 19.99. The only thing I'm looking for now is a bottom skin/protector. I won't buy the invisible shield on basis that it's too expensive and I'm not going to hose down my laptop to put it on.

MacBook :: Palmrest - Clicking Acting Like Trackpad Button

Aug 30, 2009

The whole typing level surface (track-pad, palmrests, keyboard) are all acting like they're the trackpad button. If I rest my palms on the palmrest, it's registered as a click. If I press the keys any harder than super lightly as I type, it's a click. The issue is much worse when my laptop is on my lap as opposed to a hard flat surface. Sometimes, I seem to lose total control. I'll be using the trackpad to navigate around my monitor, and it will act as though I'm constantly clicking (following links, dragging icons around, etc). It's getting REALLY irritating. I know I'll most likely end up having to make the journey to the Apple Store, but I thought I'd try here first just to see if anyone at least has an idea of what could be causing this.

MacBook :: Palmrest Scratches On Unibody / Moisture Or Occasional Sweat?

May 24, 2008

A couple months back, I noticed that the right palmrest of my unibody MacBook had a collection of fine scratches, like someone brushed it with steel wool (it can only be see in certain lighting conditions though). At first I thought that one of my siblings had caused the scratches by wearing a metal bracelet while borrowing my MacBook. However, more recently I've noticed that the left palmrest also now has the same type of scratches.

Since I discovered the first scratches I've been careful to make sure that anyone who uses my MacBook takes off any jewelry that might scratch it so I'm sure that that's not the cause. Otherwise I can only think that maybe the moisture or occasional sweat from my hands has reacted in some way with the aluminum. Seems weird but I don't know what else to think. I didn't think aluminum would wear easily either but could that be it? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Now that it's expired, I notice that yet again there's a chip missing out of the lower right corner of the palmrest. I know that the newer palmrest/keyboard/trackpad (with the iTunes controls on the F-keys) from the later Macbooks is backward-compatible with mine. Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.
