MacBook Pro :: Boot Camp - Error - Disk Cannot Be Partitioned Because Some Files Cannot Be Moved

Aug 31, 2010

I need help about boot camp..I was trying to partition my MBP but it's not working because of an error.

"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved"
Back up disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again"

Can anyone explain to me what to do? I seriously want to have Windows 7 on my mac so I could play Starcraft II much better.

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Drive Showing Up As Fat - Can't Mount

Jul 29, 2010

I am trying to get my Macbook Pro (15" 2.53 GHz, 4GB) to play nicely with Windows 7. To get a valid copy of Windows I got in on the Ultimate Steal program last year. For those who don't know what it is, basically if you're a student you could get Win7 Pro Upgrade on the cheap. Before this I didn't have any copy of Windows on my laptop. I had to go through a huge pain in the ass process of installing XP 32-bit > Vista 32-bit > Vista 64-bit > and then upgrade that to Win7. I finally had a 75GB partition of Win7 64-bit installed, when booting up holding down Option I got to select either the Macintosh HD or Windows so everything's rosey.

I wanted to do some virtualization so I didn't have to reboot all the time so I grabbed an eval copy of VMWare Fusion. I kept getting an error about not being able to load the BootCamp partition, getting an error of Resource Busy. When I look at the partition in Disk Utililty the name of it is disk0s2 instead of BootCamp like it used to on my old Macbook. Trying to mount the mount fails and for some reason the partition shows as exFt. Going back into Windows show that it is in fact partitioned as NTFS.

Well not wanting to go through the same install hell that I did before I used Windows built-in functionality to create a system image as well as created a system restore disk. I blew away the bootcamp partition and launched Boot Camp Assistant, recreated the partition and stuck in the System Restore disk. Boot Camp Assistant restarted to install the OS and everything seemed to go well. I can no boot into Win7 and Mac but the partition on the Mac side still shows as disk0s2 and exFat. It *is* now mountable but it shows that the drive is completely empty (107 gb free, 1.8mb used). Another weird issue, the partition isn't 107gb, it's 80gb. And there is definitely more than 1.8mb used. Obviously VMWare still doesn't like this and I'm just stuck.

MacBook Air :: Headphone Jack Not Working Through Boot Camp?

Jun 24, 2012

My headphone jack stopped working properly on my MacBook Air when running Windows 7 through Boot Camp.  It has worked perfectly for the last month, but this afternoon it randomly stopped working.  When I try to play music, the bass sounds fine, but the words/lyrics are garbled and softer than the rest of the song.  The speakers work fine, its just the headphone jack.  Headphones key to getting any work done around my office

OS X :: Boot Camp Installation Error?

Aug 22, 2009

Trying to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I get this error:

I have an external hard drive with enough space to back up my computer, but I don't know what to do after that. Can someone tell me what to back it up with so I can restore it after I format my computer, and how to restore it?

I assume to format the drive I use Disk Utility from my install CD?

Windows On Mac :: OSX Not Showing Boot Camp Hard Drive / Installed The Broadcom Driver

Oct 14, 2010

Running a 2010 MBP Core i5 2.4GHz. I had Windows 7 originally installed. Gave me wireless problems and I gave up. Erased the partition. Installed Windows XP and everything was fine.

I got a new copy of W7 Professional x64. I installed it "over" the existing XP, though it erased the partition anyways (I don't care about that). The new 7 install has been giving me the same wireless problems. I downloaded and installed the Broadcom driver. Gave me a BSOD and restarted the computer. Now I have a BSOD on start up, too. On the OSX side of things, it no longer shows any Boot Camp hard drive. It doesn't recognize it at all. Though when I hold the option key on boot, it still shows the Windows install.

1. How do I fix the BSOD problem? (All caused by installing the driver)

2. Where the heck is the Boot Camp hard drive/partition?

Windows On Mac :: Error When Installing XP Via Boot Camp?

Dec 13, 2009

I have been trying to install Windows XP Pro SP3 on my MacBook, and after the installation finishes, I get an error saying that hal.dll can't be found. Really strange. Windows 7 installs fine, but I'd like to install XP for nostalgia's sake.

The disc is clean and I get no errors during install.

OS X :: Tried Installing XP With Boot Camp And Got Disk Error?

Jan 9, 2010

I'm a new MAC user and would need to install XP on my MAC. I'm sure there are thousands of threads out there about this but I couldn't find one. I've tried installing with Boot Camp and got Disk Error. Realised I had Service Pack One. The CPU then wouldn't boot properly as it looked for the WIN CD later so I have to hold down the Option key every time I boot up. I now have XP Pro with SP3 and have partitioned the space (20gb). Just don't want to mess it up so I'll wait for a reply here.

Windows On Mac :: Partitioning Error With Boot Camp?

Jan 15, 2010

I know this question has probably been answered somewhere, but I can't seem to find anything quite like my situation.

I'm resizing the Windows partition on a 2.2GHz 15" Macbook Pro. I deleted the partition using Boot Camp, but when I went back to repartition it, I get the error that states:

"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. - Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume ..."

However, according to Disk Utility, there's only one partition on the drive, and it's correctly formatted. I'm not missing any hard drive space or anything. Is there any way to fix this without going through the hassle of reformatting my hard drive?

OS X :: Boot Camp - Windows 7 - Error 0x80300024

Mar 3, 2010

I have a small problem. My mac pro (2007) was broken about two weeks ago. Now I have it back but I have a new problem (probably caused by updates by apple). I always used dual boot with windows 7 64 bit, but now it just won't install it anymore.

I use my first HD (320GB) for my 2 os (so snow leopard has 200GB and windows has 100GB). Just like I always did, but now I gives 2 errors:

1. After creating a partition with boot camp, the windows installer says that he cannot install on that partition because he needs NTFS (and it's FAT32).

OS X :: Boot Camp Broken In Leopard - Disk Error?

Nov 5, 2007

On my new MBP, I had Tiger and Boot Camp 1.4 Beta.

When I got my Leopard UTD disc, I simply did an upgrade. Last night, I was fed up with some of the weirdness, and decided to start with a clean slate.

I removed my windows/boot camp partition, popped in my Leopard disc, selected erase and Install, and within 30 minutes it was done (seems way too fast...wtf?)

Anyway, I go through the Boot Camp steps to install Windows. When I get to the Windows setup where you select a drive to install, it doesn't give me the option to format the Boot Camp C: drive, but instead just installs.

After rebooting, it gives me a DISK ERROR.

A bit of googling shows others have had this problem, too. Is EVERYONE having this problem? Did Apple break Boot Camp with Leopard?

Is there any viable workout other than formatting to Tiger, installing 1.4, then upgrading again?

Is it possible to uninstall the Boot Camp assistant on Leopard and find/download/install Boot Camp 1.4 on Leopard, and go from there?

I need windows for school - and this is driving me nuts!

Windows On Mac :: Error Message 4 For Boot Camp Partition

Dec 8, 2008

When i boot into Vista at the boot ing Windows Vista black screen, i get an error message that says... Warning: unrecognized partition table for drive 80. please rebuild it using a Microsoft-compatible FDISK tool(err=4) System tyhpe is NTFS, partition type 0x7 then it goes, and lists that a couple more times, then it boots into Vista. I just had an internal drive crash, so I purchased a 1TB and installed it into my 2ghz iMac. Everything went great, and now I am in the midst of reinstalling all my apps. I then partitioned the drive for 53 gigs with Boot Camp and installed Vista 32bit with sp1. And when I boot into the Boot Camp partition, that is the error I get, but then it finally after listing that about 4 or so times boots fine into Vista. I have installed many things now on that partition under Windows and everything seems perfect with it, it is just I get that error.

OS X :: Partition Using Boot Camp - Getting An Error About Files Not Being Able To Be Moved?

Jan 17, 2010

am not sure if I am posting this in the right category. I am new on here so forgive me if it is not in the right place. I am having trouble with my partition using boot camp. I am getting an error about the files not being able to be moved. I have repaired permissions... did not work. Defragmented.... did not work. When I look at the defrag log I see that there is an error -43 on a jpg, which I can not find. All the other errors are items running that pertain to actually the computer working (quit all files that were opened just to make sure).

Windows On Mac :: Possibly Fatal Boot Camp Error / Unable To Boot Windows

Jul 14, 2009

In my attempt to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I accidentally inserted an SP1 disc instead of the SP2 disc that I have. The installation proceeded to the point where it does for most who attempt this: the screen where you are prompted to press ENTER. I could not proceed and therefore restarted the iMac and held down the mouse button upon start-up to remove the CD.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM:I can not boot into OS X because the keyboard shortcuts (those that might allow me to select which partition to boot from and/or reset PRAM) seem to be disabled. Instead, a reboot always ends at a black screen with a blinking DOS-esque cursor, or the prompt: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."

I have attempted inserting my SP2 disc at this point, to no avail. My keyboard seems to be disabled, as if the SP1 install proceeded just enough to establish itself as the boot drive without drivers for the keyboard. I've tried using all 3 USB ports, disconnecting other USB devices. Oddly, my bluetooth mouse works to eject the CD on reboot...

Windows On Mac :: OE M XP Installation On Boot Camp -- Non System Disc Error?

Sep 6, 2008

I'm having problems with a Boot Camp partition and XP Professional SP2.

I setup a 20GB partition on my drive (I'm using a MacBook Pro, 3GB, 120GB hard drive). It's the only partition other than the one I use for OS X.

I didn't have full-install SP2 discs, only an upgrade. So I went to Fry's and bought a legal, new OEM disc and license for XP Professional SP2, full-install. I ran the installer and all went well...until I rebooted. At that point, Windows wouldn't load giving me a non-system disc error.

Windows On Mac :: Creating New Boot Camp Partition - Error Message

Jul 18, 2009

"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." Does it really mean I have to partition my whole hard drive and then reinstall everything? I'm hoping I'm just misinterpreting....

I have had my uMBP for about two weeks, I boot camped, decided I needed more space for windows, used Winclone to clone my windows partition, merged the windows partition back into OS X, and now I get an error message when I try to repartition. Please tell me there is an easy fix. BTW, my harddrive is 250GB, there is 87GB free, and I am only trying to create an 81GB partition.

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp XP: Getting A C000021a System Error - Blue Screen?

Aug 13, 2009

Won't boot up past this screen, this is the first time this has happened. I am fairly certain it is related to an attempt to install SP3 (I had removed it in favor if SP2 to hopefully fix some wireless issues). I noticed when I shut it down last time that it was installing updates, which most certainly included SP3, and then I left the computer. Maybe the install failed? If so, how can I fix this? Any way around other than reverting to a backup? (I think the clone I have of it has SP3 on it)

Windows On Mac :: PC Game On Boot Camp Not Working?

The problem is that when the intro has started, it is choppy. About halfway in the intro it just crashes out to desktop. I am way above game requirements, so why does the game not start properly?

Or more generally, do the requirements change on the PC version, compared to the Mac version?

- Using 32 Bit instead of 64 Bit Windows

- Tried installing XP then doing an upgrade to Win 7, but only have XP Upgrade and eject key doesn't work during installation when prompted for older version verification.

Windows On Mac :: Dual Monitor Not Working In XP (boot Camp)

Sep 14, 2006

By using boot camp, I finally managed to install XP on my Macbook Pro. I can extend the monitor but the problem is that the extended monitor is in Black&WHite and totally jagged/off centered. I tested the adater and the cable with other machine and they work fine, so definitely issue is not the cable and the adapter. I really need to use Dual monitor for some software that I use on XP, so this is really really important to me.... My MacbookPro is 2.16ghz with 2GB of RAM, and the video card is ATI Radeon X1600. Maybe I need to install different driver for the card? If anyone has done the same please please let me know exactly how you did it

The built-in keyboard and trackpad worked with default Windows drivers, but no Mac-specific key functionality (like brightness, volume, etc). I was hoping Boot Camp 2.0 in Leopard would have better drivers, but they still didn't work. I don't know if this is a MBP-specific problem or not.

Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp 3.2 Update Uninstalls Boot Camp On 2006?

Nov 21, 2010

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.

So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?

Windows On Mac :: "Files Can't Be Moved" - Error Boot Camp

Apr 12, 2009

Yesterday when I wanted to boot Vista Ultimate 32-Bits on my 20" iMac (late 2006 model) it only gave me BSODs at startup and then rebooted my computer automatically. I tought: OK, let's just erase Windows. So I fired up Boot Camp-assistent and deleted the Windows partition. Today, I wanted to reinstall Windows Vista again, but when I tried to partition my drive with bootcamp, it gave me the error saying that my harddrive could not be partitioned because some files can't be moved. It says I'll have to format my hardrive to 1 partition using the Drive Utility. But I'm very afraid I do something wrong and that Mac OS can't boot anymore. I also don't have a drive to store a back-up of all my files on. Can I just ignore this screen and if I do, will I be able to start Mac OS X normally? I DO NOT want to install Windows after this anymore, guess I will buy a PC for games in a while or go to my friend's house to play Crysis and such.
