My question is, is there a USB cable adapter available that will allow me to plug in a software dongle to a DB25 female port? I will need this option in order to run this software license for my GPS/GIS software. This is the only roadblock to my purchasing a MacBook.

Can anyone explain this or advise a fix? There was no software changes I can think of that would have caused this. Could I have inadvertantly damaged the video pins for DVI but not VGA or do they share? I have not tried reformatting and reinstalling the OS. I am running W7 x64.

I'm considering either the MiFi or a 3G USB dongle. Both have their pros and cons of course, but the USB dongle is appealing because it's one less device to charge.

I am trying to setup a Vodacom 3565-z Internet dongle on my girlfriend's Macbook Pro. She is currently in Tanzania, so I am trying to help her over the phone. It is a K3565-z Vodacom Internet dongle, and it has worked perfectly fine for the last 2 months. Now it suddenly stopped working and she un-installed the software used for logging on in her attempt to fix the problem. There are only Windows files on the USB stick now, and no internet connection. If she goes to the Network settings she can see the modem.

I've been so unlucky that the bluetooth on my macbook unibody, has been destroyed, was down at the nearest Apple Store here in Norway, it will take about 1 to 2 weeks, they have to order the bluetooth. so they would have my macbook there until they got the part, to repair it.
And I can not live without macbook, and there is no question of me to sit here with a Windows or Linux computer, so I now use a Bluetooth dongle, but it sticks so far out from the macbook, anyone know of a bluetooth dongle that is nano size sticking 2 mm from the macbook?
I have a macbook pro 17, I couldn't really wait for what might or might not come out next year, as there was an urgent need for it. I am interested in getting some mobile internet, and was wondering, would you seasoned pro's go for a usb dongle or express card slot option?
View 11 Replies View RelatedDoes the apple thunderbolt to ethernet dongle support promiscuous mode ? I need to use the new Retina MBP as a professional laptop for work, and I need to use Etherreal. Etherreal needs the Ethernet card/dongle/chip to run in Promiscuous mode. I have heard that unblivably the thunderbolt Ethernet dongle does not support this, if so then the laptop will not pick all the packets on the wire. is this true ?

For the last couple of month or two, my MacBook Pro hasn't always been recognising all of my 4Gb of RAM and only detecting one of the two 2Gb RAM installed.
I thought it might have been a hardware problem but I have been able to restart OS X when it only detects 2Gb and after it has rebooted it would see all 4Gb of RAM but recently (last week or so) when I restart this no longer happens and it still only detects 2Gb not matter how many times I restart.
The 4Gb of RAM installed is the factory shipped RAM and I haven't opened my MBP to make any modifications.
For some reason when I boot into Windows 7 through BootCamp it detects all 4Gb of RAM.
I am having real trouble running some applications that I need due to the fact that I only have half the installed RAM available.

I bought a 4-port USB hub (Gear Head if it matters) and it's supposed to just plug in and work. I normally use a USB mouse & keyboard, thus taking up 2 out of 2 of my MacBook Pro's USB slots. I bought the Hub so I could add in a light or speaker for late night gaming sessions and quiet videos respectively. The light on the USB Hub turns on, but it isn't detected by my MacBook Pro. Anything I plug in to it recieves enough power to turn on (Speaker's Power light turns on, Mouse's laser will turn on, etc...) but they aren't detected by the MacBook Pro. IE; Mouse won't move on screen, keyboard will not type, speaker isn't shown as an option for outgoing sound device, etc...

Installed a new Seagate Momentus XT 750gb into my mid 2009 mbp. When I tried to install my leopard the HDD was not detected.
So I put in the original HDD and installed leopard into the Seagate via USB with success. Prior installation I formatted the Seagate already.
Then I install the Seagate into the mbp again but still it cannot be detected.

Using both smcFanControl and istat, I cannot get a reading on my fan speeds. I can hear my exhaust fan spinning, but these programs tell me it is always at 000 rpm. Also, I don't think the fan control is working, as I don't hear an increase in fan speed when I make adjustments.
Does anyone know how I can get these apps to recognize my exhaust fan?
I'm running Mac OS X Lion (latest version) on a MacBook Pro mid-2010 model. OS X Lion was installed via recovery tools a few days ago. Today I plugged in a brand new Crucial M4 SSD via USB and it got detected. I restarted the laptop in recovery mode using cmd + R and chose to install Lion on the external SSD. For this I first had to partition the SSD before it showed up as a valid drive where Lion could be installed. The installation went almost to the end, but then stopped rather strangely for a very long time. So I decided to cancel the installation and restarted the laptop normally. Since then the Crucial M4 SSD is not being detected at all (doesn't even show up in Disk Utility).

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro 13 it was working OK but now has come up no batteries detected and I have tried a pram reset, smc reset and a new battery but still no luck. I did manage to get it to work for a while by turning it on with the power adapter connect then restarting it but at the point of the restart I pulled the power and it came on with the battery.
If I start it with the power adapter connected and then pull the power it will boot to the login screen briefly then go into sleep until I reconnect the power. When the power adapter is connected it just has a solid green light at all times never changes even if I do the smc reset.

I have a macbook pro and i used my old phillips tv for a 2nd screen. Bought a DVI-I to DVI-I cable, and was working just fine. For xmas I got a Dynex 26inch. I noticed it has a VGA and not DVI input, so I figured I would buy a DVI-I to VGA adapter and still be able to use the same cable. I go to hook it up and my TV says no signal.
On my laptop it detected the tv as BBY LCD TV, but still has no picture. Is there a setting I need to change? Or is the better route going with a new DVI-I to VGA or HDMI cable?
when i entered any disc (dvd/cd), my mac cant detect it and instead there's like an alarm sound. after a few minutes, it automatically eject the disc without giving any error message whatsoever.

I upgraded to 10A432 last week. Today I plug in my headphones and to my surprise they dont work. If the headphones are plugged in audio comes out of computer speaker. Under Sound in Syspref it doesn't see the headphone. My mac is still under the 90 day warranty but I am studying in Purdue and don't know where the nearest apple store is.

There's a DVI cable connected from the monitor to the macbook pro with a little converter cable. I've tried what seems like every iteration of sleeping, turning off, and turning on both the laptop and the monitor to no avail. The monitor always remains black as if it's connected to nothing. I know the monitor is good, too, as I use it for my PC on a daily basis.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my late model Penryn MBP from the stock Hitachi 200GB 5400rpm drive to a Seagate 500GB 7200rpm drive. Performance wise, I'm happy. XBench is indicating a significant gain on the disk test (especially in the sequential test) and I loved being able to use Quicksilver almost as soon as I saw the menubar. However, when I turned on the machine, it did not recognize the drive automatically, and I had to hold down the Option key in order to get it to boot from the disk. I cloned my old HD using CarbonCopy Cloner. Once I did that everything was (obviously) fine. How can I get the MBP to recognize my new disk as the default boot volume?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the 10.7.4 Update, my MacBookPro 15 inch, early 2011, says "No Wi-Fi hardware detected".After resetting the PRAM and the SMC, functionality came back, but only until i have to shutdown the Book. After turning it on on again, again "No Wi-Fi hardware detected" under the Wi-Fi symbol in the menue bar. Again, after resetting PRAM (waiting for 3 chimes at startup), Wi-Fi hardware is detected again and working properly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been running a Benq G2400W on my MacBook Pro since December 2008 with no problems. I recently has my logic board replaced due to a power issue. I got the computer back a few weeks ago. For some odd reason, my monitor refuses to accept the signal from my MacBook Pro over DVI. I can use the DVI to Analog converter and it works just fine.
I did find a thread over at Apple Support Discussions outlining the exact issue I am having. The solution is to remove a pin from the DVI cable. I shouldn't have to destroy a cable to get this to work again. I might order a new cable/adapter from monoprice.com and destroy it if that is my only option though.
I just can't figure out what changed except for the logic board swap...but I don't remember if it has worked over DVI since I got it back.
I deleted the windowserver plist for my user and the system one with no change in behavior. Are there any other settings I could try resetting?
I've unplugged the Benq and reset the monitor via the OSD to default settings.
I did read over at anandtech that it could be HDCP related...but I'm not trying to watch a video.
I plugged the laptop into a Dell 1905 at work via DVI and it worked perfectly fine.
