Just got a 17" unibody to replace my 15" Classic. It appears that the 17" can't output 1920x1200 over the mini DisplayPort to DVI connection, rather displaying 1920x1080. The 15" Classic has no problem outputting 1920x1200 which is the native resolution of this display (an LG L246WP).
What can I do? I tried downloading SwitchResX and fiddling around with that to no avail.
I recently bought a Macbook, and I've been trying to connect it to my external Samsung SyncMaster P2270 screen using a DVI-to-miniDVI adapter from Apple. It works, both as extended or mirrored screen, but the maximum resolution I get is 1600x1200 (and I actually use 1600x900, cause it looks distorted otherwise).
Any clues on how to get it to output 1920x1080? I'm sure that the screen supports that resolution, because I've used it before with another laptop.
I have been having some problems with my Macbook Pro. I have a new BenQ screen connected to it via the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter from Apple. No matter what I do, I cant seem to be able to change the resolution to anything higher than 1280x1024, which is a pretty stupid resolution to have on a 27'' monitor. Sometimes when I plug it in, it gives me the option to change the resolution to 1920x1080.
But when I select it, the screen goes black and displays the message "No signal detected". Now, as it happens, I have a copy of windows installed on a partition of my hdd, and the screen works flawlessly on it. full HD with 75 Hertz. So that shows that it is not a hardware problem, it has to be a software problem. I tried everything, including reinstalling OS X, and deleting the "windowserver" files. no success.

Since I updated Snow Leopard to Version 10.6.8 on my MBP15, I can't use my SyncMaster P2770 HD (Samsung) in its highest 1920x1080 resolution anymore. I can choose 1920x1080 in the monitor-preferences, but having done that the resolution remains at 1680x1050 @60Hz (I can see it and even the monitor's info-menu says, that i still use 1680x1050 @60Hz). I use a Mini DisplayPort to VGA-Adapter and a VGA-cable.

i have the computer in my sig. i am a graphic design student and will be using this for that. can my computer handle 1920x1200. will it be laggy at such resolutions? and does anyone have any experience with this monitor or suggestions for other good ones which are around 350.

When i press search for displays my screen goes blue and then returns to the normal desktop and the external screen keeps saying check signal cable.

Well my unibody macbook display decided to screw up last night, it was working fine last night no problem. Connected to a external monitor. I fell asleep last night with front row left on, obviously it went to sleep and then I woke up and the screen was black. Now the LED lights are working, my external display is also working. The display settings recognize a screen being present (when I click detect displays and gather windows - 2 windows appear). Ive reset PRAM, SMC, reseated the RAM, control+shift+eject (which just made the screen flicker a little after turning it back on) and Im out of ideas. Its out of warranty and about about 18months old.

I'm wondering which "mini display port - to -xxxx" should I get. Does HDMI go higher then 1080p? Is the DVI-D my best option?, I've read that they both have the same "video quality" but was wondering if HDMI offers the same resolutions as DVI, and which will be better for the future as well. I still hope/plan to buy a mac pro in 2-3 years.

After taking advice here and there, I have decided to go for a dual monitor set up on my late 2006 iMac 24inch. I want to use the Eizo S2242W monitor which is a 22inch widescreen model with a resolution of 1920x1200. I will use this for photoshop work and I want the set up to allow me to use my internal iMac screen to display photoshop controls and the picture I am editing to appear on the properly calibrated Eizo. I believe this is called extended mode or some such. I need to know if this is possible with the mac I own and if there are any additional connections I will need to buy to make it work. The screen has a DV input and I believe my mac has a mini dv output but I'm not sure what this means for me.

The problem is, the new monitor is only displaying at 1440 x 900.. i'd like it to be able to show 1920x1080; the actual resolution of the monitor. Any way of doing this? (the maximum resolution in the display preferences is 1440 x 900)
The highest resolution I can get at the moment is 1600x900 using a MacBook Pro, however I know that my monitor is capable of 1920x1080, as this is the resolution I used with my last computer which was a PC. I am using the Mini Display port to DVI adapter. The MacBook is fairly new. I bought it in April 2010.

When I look at the Apple specs page, it says that it can handle external monitors up to 2048 x 1536 on the external display, but that does not specifically state that it supports this resolution. This one is special because it is 16:9, which is not particularly standard for monitors. The card in this model is an ATI Radeon 970. However, their website is completely unhelpful. The paheon the 970 makes no mention whatsoever of Macs, but does go out of its way to note that 1920x1080 is only supported on some OSes. So has anyone successfully run a 1920 x 1080 monitor on a PowerBook? I'm looking at the ASUS VH242H display.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 2011 macbook pro with a thunderbolt/hdmi adapter connected to a receiver, so I can watch movies on my tv. Video files with 5.1 dolby have always played fine through this exact setup, however, recently, only 2 channel audio goes through. I know that the adapter is good, and it isn't the receiver because I have tried other devices on the same ports. So it must be something on the macbook end.8 channel, 192 kz is selected under hdmi in midi options, and hdmi is always selected as output in the movie player I use. There is no reason it should still only be 2 channel on my receiver.
PS. I am on 10.7.4 using a mono-price thunderbolt/hdmi adapter and an Onkyo HT-R590 receiver.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.
When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.
My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?
I have a 22" Dell external monitor on my MBP. I know that I just close the cover to my MBP to shut off the screen. What do I do in those instances that I want to use both screens? There has to be something simpler than restarting the MBP?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.
I have a 27" i7. I have a 24" DVI Montior hooked up to it via MDP->DVI adaptor. When the 24" Monitor is on, everything is fine. When I turn the monitor off, the magic mouse tracking on the 27" screen stutters. I am not kidding - it took me ages to figure out that to fix I either need to turn the other monitor on OR disconnect the MDP->DVI adaptor.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to run two extra screens off of my unibody 15" MBP while still using the screen on the notebook itself for intensive video-editing between FCP and the adobe series. I understand the maximum resolution the mini-dvi port can handle is 1920x1200--no problem. Now, does the maximum resolution change at all if I am running two external monitors (one using the mini DVI port and the other using a USB port via VGA/DVI adaptor to USB).
Can the graphics card handle running three screens at once along with FCP,After Effects, and Illustrator? Can the USB port also push 1920x1200? Or does the USB port on the MBP (I understand each adapter can have different capacities) have a different limit? Or is that 1920x1200 limit the maximum a sole mini-DVI cord can push? You might just say, hey buy a 30" ACD and use the usb/mini-dvi ports to run that at an even GREATER resolution. But alas, I cannot afford to do that yet.
I am setting up a new 17 inch macbook pro for a friend. He uses a 24 inch LCD external monitor so we purchased the mini display port to dvi adapter (as opposed to the mini display port to dual link dvi adapter for 30 inch monitors). However, I am at home setting up his computer using my external monitor which is the 30 inch dell monitor. For some reason, the maximum resolution I can get is 1280x800 on the external 30 inch monitor. I figured I should at least be able to get 1920x1200 resolution, right?? Does anyone know what may be going on here. I know you're able to switch between video cards on the unibody macbook pros, how do I do that as well?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI started this situation with a bootable hard drive that I removed from a 4,1 (mid 2008) and a brand new unibody MacBook Pro. What I wanted to do was use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the old drive to the new MBP. I used CCC to clone the drive to the new one and repaired permissions on the internal drive and tried booting from it. No Luck. I figured this was stupid to do and I could just use migration assistant so I decided to reinstall Leopard on the unibody. Unfortunately when I attempt to boot from the DVD it doesn't go past a blank grey screen. I also tried holding down option to open the boot manager and select the DVD, when hit enter over the DVD it freezes. The interesting thing is that when I connect the old drive to the unibody using an enclosure I can boot from the external drive no problem. I tried using another computer to install leopard on the unibody over firewire and the installation went fine but when I start the unibody it doesn't go past a blank grey screen. I am also positive the hard drive isn't damaged or anything because when I go to the boot manager after leopard is installed the internal drive shows up but when I select it, it freezes. I have tried resetting the PRAM, NVRAM, repairing the disk (which is successful). When I try to boot into single user mode the computer freezes when loading the text. Another interesting thing is that when do boot from the external drive it goes through verbose mode every time and I never choose to do that. Right now I am attempting to clone drive using Super Duper to new drive and see what happens.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two VGA cables. My first is simply a cheap one which I have been using for the past few months on my full HD (1080p) TV. I use a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter on my 17" Macbook Pro and have been able to get full HD output to my TV.
However, this cable was poorly shielded and I got some wavy lines from other TV inputs.
I've just got a new VGA cable, and this has far greater shielding (so that problem is fixed), however I cannot get it to go above a resolution of 1400x1050 - going to 1920x1080 @60Hz as I did with the other cable gives me a message from my TV - "Unsupported signal. Adjust your PC output."
When I try and use the 'Detect Displays' button in System Preferences, I don't see anything happen as a result...
Edit: After a bit of research, my new cable is actually an SVGA cable. It has the same pins, layout etc and as far as I'm aware it should work. Why doesn't it!?
Edit2: Tried another VGA cable, and that works. So my findings are that 'Super-VGA' cable doesn't work, at least by default. Any way I can fix this?
I have a G4 powerbook with an LCD that only displays the top 25% of the screen. I've been using an external monitor with it just fine. Today, I reinstalled the OS and ran into a problem. The main OSX startup menu (you know, where it asks for your location, timezone, personal info, etc) is prompting me for information, and I can't see the forms to fill them in! The external monitor defaults to "extended" as opposed to "mirrored", and the forms are embedded, meaning I can't drag them over to my external monitor. Obviously, if I can't fill out these forms and get to the desktop, the laptop is completely useless.
Does anyone know how to force the external monitor to be "mirrored" from startup? Is there a keycommand?
I have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).
The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.
I'm trying to hook my Macbook up to my TV with VGA, and the highest resolution available is 1360*768. My TV is a 1080p TV, so does anyone know why system preferences won't let me select anything higher than 720p?
FYI the TV is a Sony, model KDL32W-4000.
Is there a way to use my external monitor as my only monitor when connected to my mbp? Or, can i clone my display, but at separate resolutions? I am able to do this on windows with nvidia software, is there software that allows further customization?
