MacBook :: Hitatchi 7k500 Temp Monitor In White Unibody
Mar 11, 2010
I recently installed the Hitatchi 7k500 in my new White Unibody. Istat pro is showing a HD bay temp of 25 degrees C. When I had the original 250gb HD in, istat showed a HD bay temp and a HD temp. Now I only have a HD bay temp.

I'm wondering if anyone with a unibody Macbook Pro can tell me what temperature categories show up in their iStat Pro dashboard application. I have never gotten ones such as Airport card and am wondering if it's just the application or something to do with my airport card.

I think that the unibody Macbook Pro would look sweet if it had white keys. I already own a wireless Apple keyboard, so I was thinking, would it be possible to swap the keys? Has anyone ever done/tried this?

Macbook white updated by Apple this Tuesday. Comparing the hardward configuration with Macbook unibody(466), the new Macbook white may faster than 466. Anyone think Macbook unibody will have a update on hardware soon?P.S MacRumors Buyer guide also said "Recommendation: Buy only if you need it - Approaching the end of a cycle"

I have a 15" unibody pro, and when it's all cleaned and polished it looks absolutely stunning but quickly it becomes covered in smudges, fingerprints etc. It shows every little spec of dirt. It drives me insane, I'm constantly trying to clean it. It's so bad I'm considering selling it and buying a white one unless the white one is just as bad. From what I remember owning an older white macbook, it's wasn't as bad.

Sorry for posting two consecutive posts but I thought this one should be discussed separately.
But does anyone know if the white unibody macbooks use the same 60% more color gamut displays as the 13" mbps do?

The sleeve I keep my laptop in got wet tonight and now the bottom of my macbook is a weird grey/green/yellow colour. The sleeve is by logiix. I can't find the product online but the inside of the sleeve is micro-fibre-ish kind of material... I took some pictures but the quality is really bad, i took it from my cellphone.... I'm wondering if there's anyway to clean it up or do i have to live with it forever... Why does this happen? Might Apple cover it?

The title says it all. I want to monitor the CPU temp of my g3 800mghz ibook. I DLd iStat, but that only tells me the temp of my HDD...
I just want to see what temps the fans turn on around, and stuff.

I have a new Unibody White Macbook and can see that the palmrest may scratch if used whilst wearing a watch or if someone uses it wearing bracelets.
I live in the UK and wondered if there are any clear palmrest covers to prevent scratching? Either via ebay or otherwise?

I downloaded a program to monitor my late 2008 unibody Macbook Pro's temperatures. Just a few minutes ago while playing music/playing an ONLINE game real briefly it warned me that my CPU temperature was too high. (167˚ F) Is that too high of a temperature? What should the "range" be?

I have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).
The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.

I have a ~2 month old 13" MacBook Pro (specs in sig). Several hours ago, I reapplied thermal paste to my old (pre-unibody) white MacBook and I am THRILLED with the results. I have a thread about it here: [URL] My white MB runs so cool, that I prefer using it, rather than my MBP.
I would replace the stock thermal paste with Arctic Silver Ceramique, but I am concerned about my warranty possibly being voided. Another reason that I wouldn't do this to my MBP is that my controlling mom will not let me do this to my new computer. If I can get any evidence from any of you that this will not adversely affect my computer or my warranty, I may be able to convince her to allow me to reapply the thermal paste.

I have a MacBookPro5,4 2.53GHz with one fan and only the 9400M. After updating to 10.6.3 the operating temperature seems to have risen from about 43 degrees C to about 48. It has been getting warmer here in Japan so the ambient temperature is different but I still think this rise in temp. is due to the update. I have smcfancontrol installed and set to 2500rpm instead of the normal 2000, but it seems to be not enough to keep the temp. under control, as it did before the update. Any relatively hard use of the cpu and the temp goes up to 60 degrees.

So i have the mid 2007 (i think) non unibody white macbook.
Yesterday after some normal usage i noticed the battery had only 30 minutes left even though it had 94% left, also the Service battery Now message had appeared
This was odd cause even though my mac is quite old a few days before the battery was lasting a normal 4-5 hour charge.
after leaving it charging over night after trying to recalibrate the battery(i dont think it actually ran all the way down as it lasted minutes while not on battery power even though it was 99%), resetting the pram, nvram and SMC, the battery now reports 20 hours of life left, but the "Replace now" message came on.
now obviously i would be ok with 20 hours of life left, but its had 20 hours left for 30 minutes an hasnt decreased
Ive googled and searched the forums but couldnt find an answer ...

i noticed that my bottom of my new macbook started to get quite dirty. mostly from hands and not surfaces because I clean all the surfaces before putting down my computer... ANYWAY, I thought I'm gonna try something different than iKlear. I grabbed my make-up remover. NOT to mistaken for nail polish remover. Make-up remover doesn't have any harsh chemicals. and OH MY GOD, it worked so well. So use make-up remover on a soft cloth or cotton pads, that's what i use, to clean your bottom case! I would like to hear what you all think of this I've been doing it since about a week after getting my Macbook. The only spots I cannot remove is the the four corners. I don't think there is away around those pressure spots.

Just got a 17" unibody to replace my 15" Classic. It appears that the 17" can't output 1920x1200 over the mini DisplayPort to DVI connection, rather displaying 1920x1080. The 15" Classic has no problem outputting 1920x1200 which is the native resolution of this display (an LG L246WP).
What can I do? I tried downloading SwitchResX and fiddling around with that to no avail.

Well my unibody macbook display decided to screw up last night, it was working fine last night no problem. Connected to a external monitor. I fell asleep last night with front row left on, obviously it went to sleep and then I woke up and the screen was black. Now the LED lights are working, my external display is also working. The display settings recognize a screen being present (when I click detect displays and gather windows - 2 windows appear). Ive reset PRAM, SMC, reseated the RAM, control+shift+eject (which just made the screen flicker a little after turning it back on) and Im out of ideas. Its out of warranty and about about 18months old.

I am running an older Macbook Pro 2008 model with OSX 10.6.8. I am getting a black and white image on my external TV. I am using the official mac DVI to composite adapter.
I also have bootcamp installed and use the same adapter on the Windows XP side and it works fine in full color out to a TV with the same adapter.

My friend is stuck on this drive .
But he asked me to find out if it had the G sensor or not. Obviously Macs have there own sensor so he wants to get one without the sensor so it doesnt interfere.

I was just adding some Quicklook plugins when my temps started to soar. I have restarted, repaired permissions, removed said plugins, and tried other accounts. Nothing is lowering the temps. Weird thing is is Activity Monitor is showing NOTHING using the processor nearly enough to jump my temps to 85 C with nothing running.
I'm "controlling" the issue for now by ramping my fans to full speed. Even with this I am hovering around 70 C...a good 10-15 C above what I am normally at (and was at 30 minutes ago).
*Note: Normally running fans at 6000rpm would give me temps in the mid to low 40 C range

Ok so recently I got a 500gb seagate 7200.4 and I loved it except for my high load cycle count. So I exchanged it for the hitachi. Now with this hitachi I am also experiencing high load cycle counts, more power consumption than my seagate and it's louder. Except the seagate did have a faint clicking sound while booting up where the hitachi doesn't. My seagate also seemed a bit faster.
Can someone sway me to either stick with the hitachi or go back to the seagate based on your own thougts and experiences as well as my input.

15" i7 macbook pro to arrive, and I'm looking at which 7200 rpm hard drive to buy to replace the 5400 rpm one with.I've narrowed it down to the Seagate momentus xt and the Hitachi Travelstar 7k500.Not only speed is important, because from what I've read the Seagate is a bit faster. But what i'm more worried about is noise, vibrations, heat and battery life.

I recently replaced the hdd in my 13" MBP with a travelstar 7k500. It's fantastic: quiet, cool, fast, energy efficient. Really happy.
However, I did noticed yesterday when I was moving my laptop with the body at an 80 degree angle to the floor that the drive makes a strange noise that I haven't heard in other drives. It sounds almost strained. it's only at that angle - if it's completely vertical the drive is silent again.
I doubt this is anything to worry about, but I'm curious what is actually happening and whether there is something I can do about it? Anybody else with this drive have the same experience?
