What pin count is the firewire port on the new MacBook Pro? I have tried 9pin and 4pin and they are not compatible...?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I purchased a new MacBook Pro 17" with OS X Lion (10.7.2) preinstalled back in January of this year (2012). I migrated my user accounts from my old MacBook Pro 15" (2008) running OS X Snow Leopard. Almost right away I started having issues of all sorts, including Admin accounts that wouldn't allow me admin priveledges, hidden user groups, apps that wouldn't run, multiple obscure error messages and a host of other issues. After scouring forums like this one I used Disk Utility and not only discovered innumerable permission errors but also disk errors like these:Â
Invalid volume file count
(It should be 1656658 instead of 1656636)
Invalid volume directory count
(It should be 345764 instead of 345743)
Invalid volume free block count
[code]....
And now, this morning, after a month or two of all that... and after installing the Java Security Upgrade last night, I can't get into my accounts at all. On first boot-up it hung for 20 minutes before I shut it down. After running Disk Utility from Recovery Drive and repairing the drive I rebooted and got the log-in screen. I clicked on my user icon, typed the correct password, was shown they white/grey screen for a few flickering seconds then was brought back to the log-in screen. I rebooted to the Recovery Disk, ran Disk Utility, saw all the same errors again, repaired the disk, rebooted and got the same problems with logging in again.Â
I've repeated this cycle five times today, as both a normal boot-up and in "Safe Mode" all with the same results. I've repaired the disk using Disk Utility from Recovery Disk as well as accessing the disk in Target Mode, and always there are the same errors needing to be repaired.Â
I don't buy that I'm dealing with a hardware issue. My antivirus and security software are all up-to-date. What the heck is going on? Why do I keep having these disk problems? Why can't I access my accounts anymore? Why does it keep hanging during boot-up? Why am I about to throw the machine out my bedroom window?

My wife's macbook pro started shutting down by itself randomly, so i performed Disk Utility Verify Disk and found these errors: Invalid volume file count(It should be 800651 instead of 800653)Invalid volume directory count(It should be 191005 instead of 191003)The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired. Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed. As i do not have the Mac OS Leopard disks physically with me, I target-disk started her mac on my mac, and use my mac to run Disk Utility on her hard-disk, and repaired the disk without problems.Â
However, this is the 3rd or 4th time this has happened. After the 1st time, i figured something is causing it, so i checked this forum, and found that for some, the Blackberry Messenger app causes programs, so i promptly uninstalled it fully (including associated system files) and this problem didnt come back for a while. Or could this be a sign the hard disk is physically failing soon? It is out of warranty now. We have regular Time-machine backups. We are actually kinda waiting out until the new line of macbook pro's come out..

So I just go a new umb 13 and since opening last week the battery only charges to 99% after the first charge (went to 100% only the first time). I ran it down once to see how long the battery would last and when i recharged it, it says its fully charged but only at 99%. I then tried calibrating it but it once again stop at 99%. It has 3 load cycles so far. Is this normal? if this has been asked before im a newbie to a mac and i tried searching for it but couldnt find anything.

Do i go with a 4GB setup 11.6 inch laptop or spend the extra 300 to get. better cpu, better battery life, SD reader and More screen re-estate.I don't want the macbook air to be too fast that it will replace my 2007 macbook (which will soon be a mac-mini 2.4GHZ). How are you guys liking your 13 inch vs the 11.6 inch? I see more people at the mac store going nuts over the 11.6 inch.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought the $1199 Macbook Air (2012). It works great but the start up time from when I hit the power button is significantly slower than my 2011 Macbook air. My 2012 takes about 35-40 seconds to boot-up. My 2011 takes about 15-10 seconds. I have downloaded all the updates and restarted several times but every time its still 35-40 seconds, Is this normal for the 2012's?

Recently I bought Macbook Pro 13inch Mid 2012 and seeing very low battery life around 1.30 -2:00hours. Moreover laptop get quite hot sometime.

I've got the latest MBP 13inch with Vista installed on Bootcamp. I've turned the sound all the way up and it's still very low. I've got all the latest boot camp drivers installed, I've tried viewing different videos trying to see if the video was the culprit, but unfortunately it wasn't. I searched around and I've seen others with this issue, but haven't found a fix.
I've watched the same videos in Leopard that I did in Vista and they're a lot louder.
Could you somehow put the 8-hour battery of recent macbook models, into the macbook book late 2008 model?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out what happened, and what is wrong, with my computer screen. I know it's not a dead pixel, since it's still visable. It's like a burned image, like you would get on a TV. I didn't do any physical damage to it, I know that for sure. Here's a photo. It's the ghosty off-white area that's on the left hand side of the black rectangle. (I made it back so you can see it better on camera, it's not the problem).Â

I have a MacBook Pro 13inch 2.4GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics, SD card slot, up to 10 hour battery life) bought in October 2010. The charger has been playing up for a while now - the light going out but coming back on when I move the cable a bit - faulty connection it seems. It has now stopped working at all. Apple UK charge a whopping £65 for a replacement - and the reviews are AWFUL for it, but I can't use my MBP without one.Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently have my second MBP that I got from Macmall and both in a matter of two weeks have had similar issues. The first I managed to get returned and replaced, that is a seperate and complicated story in and of itself. This particular issue started with a boot up sequence that was taking about 5-6 mins. After going through the drill with Applecare thought I could restore using Time Machine. That's when I found out that the FW400 port no longer worked to power my Oyen Digital 250G FW drive. Any thoughts as to what might be the problem? This is my second MBP and Oyen Digital FW drive. I had them both replaced!
View 10 Replies View Relatedlast night my MacBook Pro (13inch early 2011 model) froze on me so I let it be and closed the lid. In the morning it was still frozen. I did a hard restart and got the question mark on a folder icon. I tried everything, resetting PRAM, etc, etc. Northing seemed to work untill I plugged in my external hard drive (used as my time-machine backup) and I got to the re-installation/ utilities / safari / restore from backup screen. In the utilities it saw my external hard drive, but not my internal main drive. Any ideas? I've read hundreds of similar posts and nothing seems to resolve an unseen hard drive. Oh btw I plugged in another SATA HDD and it didnt recognize that either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got the external harddrive "Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex USB 3.0 1TB" with a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Kabel FireWire 800. I have neither a USB 3.0, nor a Firewire 800 on my white macbook (2008). I already know, that it's possible to use USB 3.0 with an USB 2.0 port, but I would like to use it with the firewire to spare the USB port for other devices. My question: Is there an adapter or cable to use the Seagate Firewire 800 with my Firewire 400 port? I don't know, where and what to look for.Â

I have a somewhat old Seagate FreeAgent external drive (like this).
It has a switchable port controller, one has a USB2 and eSATA and the other has two FireWire 400 ports [URL].
Now, on the FW controller it says "Dual FireWire 400".
What is Dual FireWire 400? And does it implicate that I can use both ports together somehow and get FW800 by that?
My 11 month old macbook pro (2011) was recently sent under warrenty for Harddisk SPIN RETRY COUNT value increase. They changed the harddisk and installed new Toshiba harddisk. Which ran 100% S.M.A.R.T health for two weeks and now it is showing same Spin retry count problem. I am thinking its not the harddisk but something else is causing the problem( may be power supply problem). I am from nepal so it takes a lot of effort to send it in for repair.

13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008 battery wasn't holding a charge based on the fact that its been used and abused since 2008. Around the same time (2 months ago) my MagSafe power supply started becoming frayed and damaged. So, I decided to buy both a new power supply and battery. I bought the power supply from Apple.com and the battery from Best Buy. Ever since my new purchase I no longer get a count down on my remaining battery level. It either says (charged) or (Not Charging) based on if I have the power supply plugged in. If I leave the power supply out and the battery dies it no longer goes into the power save mode. Now it just turns my laptop off. I have tried a couple things like SMC reset but no luck. Any suggestions? Maybe I am doing the SMC reset wrong? I unplug the MacBook and take the battery out and hold down the power button for 5 seconds. I cant tell that its done anything. Another problem that started happen more recently.. When i close the lid of my MacBook it seems that its no longer going to sleep. The fan is running high and the battery dies..Â

Wanted to know if the 2005 13inch is compatible with the 2009? Specifically when it comes to interchange of logic boards. What would happen if I put a 2009 logic board in a 2005 body? Are the screens of same nature and are the keys are the keyboard an other functions of same nature? What possible damage could be had to the logic board if I were to go ahead and give this a try? Â

The title says it all. I have a new battery in my 2007 MacBook, but my computer still says it's at 237 cycles. Is there a way to reset the cycle count? It does say, however, the battery is at 100% health.

it is possible, but however some of the hardware features may not be supported by Fedora unless the Kernel can be patched such as back-light, iSight etc etc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a Mac Mini (March 2009 model) and want to connect it via Firewire to my Sony TRV-22 camcoder. The camcorder has a Mini DV Firewire jack on it (I think this is called a 4-pin connector sometimes too). But on the Mac Mini, I can't tell if I need a 6-pin or a 9-pin. Can someone point me to a good cable so I can dump some MiniDV tapes into iMovie?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo first off, I absolutely love my MBA. Now that we have that out of the way. Since day 1 I've noticed that the cycle count on the battery seems to be climbing MUCH faster than it should.
- I've had the machine 51 days. I was out of the country without it for 9 days so really, I've had it for 42 days.
- According to iStat and System Profiler my battery's cycle count is 37
- According to System Profiler my battery's health is "Good"
- According to iStat my battery's health is at 98% (It started around 96%, has been as low as 94% but seems to have settled in at 97 or 98% for some time now)
- According to system profiler my maximum charge is 5006 mAh. (It's also gone up a bit since the machine was new).
I thought the definition of a cycle was the equivalent of 100% depletion of the battery -- whether that's one long unplugged stint that sucks it dry or 10 really short ones. A cycle is the same as using ~5000 mAh of battery power. I've been really good about keeping it plugged in while I work (the outlet is conveniently located). I've run the battery most the way down maybe 5 times. I do, however, run it down 10 or 20% almost every day as the machine travels with me in sleep mode or spends the night unplugged in sleep mode at my girlfriend's place).
I haven't done any careful testing but it seems though that if I run the battery down just 20% or 30% or so and then charge it all the way back up the cycle count increases by 1. Considering I've only used it for 42 days, and the cycle count is already at 37, I'm worried that it will hit 200 cycles by the time it's 8 or 10 months old. Isn't the point where battery performance starts to wane? Anyone else out there notice a rapidly climbing cycle count?
