I have a new Macbook Pro, and currently have it connected to a 22" Insignia 1080p TV. The setup is a minidisplay to DVI adapter, and a DVI to HDMI cable plugged into the adapter and the TV. My trouble is that the TV is displaying a "No Signal" message now, after working perfectly fine this afternoon. Any hints or suggestions? I've tried rebooting, plugging in the cable before and after starting up the computer, and all HDMI ports on the TV. Again, I had the exact same setup this afternoon, and it worked beautifully, but now it refuses to.
Ever since the latest generation of MacBook/ Macbook Pro you can now send audio over the MiniDisplay Port output. The tech specs on Apples web site say no word about it. Any early adopters out that that can prove me wrong? 2 Cables (power, MiniDisplay Port to HDMI) is much better than 3 (power, headphone jack, DVI to HDMI in current Old MacBook Pro Setup). With the nice Graphics card the MacBook Air works great as a portable Media player, I just hope it has this feature.
I've been searching high and low and cannot find a MDP-to-HDMI cable (not adapter) that supports audio out for use with my MBP. Does such a cable exist, or do I absolutely need to use an adapter? Looking for the cleanest solution possible. Looks like I found a cable on eBay. They do exist from individual cable-makers, but it looks like they don't exist from cable manf's like Monoprice and Blue Jeans Cable.
I am trying to connect my MBP to my TV via HDMI and I obviously I need a MiniDisplay to HDMI cable, but I'm confused with the whole "female-male" cable stuff and I don't want to buy the wrong thing.
Total newbie here bought a new 17" i7 macbook and I bought an minidisplay to HDMI adapter and when I connect I can see a picture but no sound, i tried going into the system preferences and seeing if there was an hdmi output but I cannot see anything.
Just received my new minidisplay port to HDMI to connect my macbook pro 2010 to my LCD. I did connect and got perfect image but I can get how to transfer the sound from the mac to the lcd.
Tell me if it makes sense. Since the current MiniDisplay Port adapters are NOT bidirectional and we need a bidirectional cable to make the PS3 display on the iMac, I was wondering if I purchased that new bidirectional cable by Belkin that it is advertised to let you use your iMac's screen with your MacBook Pro and then buy a female minidisplay port to female HDMI.
Would that work? It makes sense right?
Where can I find a FEMALE MiniDisplay Port to FEMALE HDMI adapter? I have searched and can't seem to find one.
I bought a dvi > hdmi cable to connect my air to the hdmi port of a samsung 46inch tv. The picture is perfect at 1600x1200, but when i select 1920x1080 it looks really bad, sorta like 16bit colors. When I use a vga cable it looks fine at 1920x1080. So what am i doing wrong? or has it something to do with the dvi > hdmi cable i bought?
I have a vizio hdtv and I have hooked up the video with a hdmi cable adapted to the mini display port and that is working fine but I cannot send sound through it or idk how to. So i bought a optical toslink to mini toslink cable to send audio form the laptop to the tv but the audio still doesn't work. The laptop says that it automatically recognizes it as a digital output.
I've got an issues with my HDMI output - most of the time when I connect to my tvs the laptop doesn't display anything on the tv (although its detected) my tv's just say searching.
Other times it works fine. Does anyone know what I can do about this or is a repair job?
So i have a 13" late 2011 MPB with lion 10.7.4. I have been using a mini display port to dvi adapter connected to a dvi to hdmi cable into my tv. It worked fine for the first few months i connected, but out of nowhere, now absolutely nothing happens when i connect the adapter to my MBP. i have tried using all the different hdmi ports on the tv and am at a loss.
10.9.4 mavericks macbook pro retina to TV via HDMI using an HDMI cable to watch movies on my laptop macbook pro retina. was working this morning, and watched a movie. then I go to work, and come back and now the exact setup is no longer working. it does not show any display in the preferences menus, and the TV is just blue without any input. cable is secure, nothing has changed. nothing.Â
edit: actually I did pull the HDMI cable out while the two were connected this morning. Â
tried restarting, reconnecting, nothing ... Why computers suddenly stop working for no reason whatsoever. maybe someone hacked my computer this afternoon while I was gone? it's just a random failure.Â

I have a one month old "late 2011 model" unibody Macbook Pro where the HDMI output just suddenly stopped working with no changes in configuration. I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC, switched HDMI cables, cold rebooting everything, tried different HDMI ports, different resolutions on the TV and switched audio output settings, nothing works. When I plug the cable in the Mac switches resolutions, recognizes the TV in the Displays preference panel and correctly identifies it as a Toshiba, but doesn't send any audio or video signals to the TV.

I'm using the macbook pro 2012 retina. The HDMI out to an external monitor works stopped working recently and only works if I'm connected when rebooting. This might have happened after a software update.

I have a 17" unibody MBP (most current version) with 10.6.4, and I downloaded the recent firmware updates for the MBP's. Before I did this, the mini port to HDMI video/audio output was working perfectly, I could watch anything right off my MBP. After installing the updates, when I plug in the cable, my MBP flickers, goes blue, and then comes back, but the TV does not detect the signal from the laptop. In the Display and Sound menus in System Preferences, there's no option to set up a second display like there was before.
I just got the mini display to hdmi cable for my macbook pro. So far it works with the tv. It displays everything but there is one probably safari doest work.
Airport shows that I am connected but safari doesnt connect.
I recently purchased and Mini-Display to HDMI converter, which connects to an HDMI to HDMI cable which connects to my television. The video is working fine, but for some reason audio isn't working at all.
While watching today apple keynote. At the and i realized that my retina display is totally black. Mirror display through hdmi is ok, apple logo on back side of disply is not lighting.
I have the latest model of the MacBook Air 13" (mid-2011 model). As recommended by the Apple Store rep, I bought the minidisplay to DVI adpater to connect my 20" Viewsonic VG2030wm. Unfortunately, the MacBook Air 13" is not recognising the monitor. It doesn't detect it at all.
I know the monitor and the DVI cable work because it works with my original MacBook Air (2008 model) that uses a micro-DVI to DVI adapter. My last resort is to take the new MacBook Air, the Viewsonic monitor, cables and adpaters to my local Apple Store to see if they can figure out it out. However, I won't be able to go until two days later when I have access to a car.

I've recently got the Apple MiniDisplay port to VGA adapter for my mid-2010 Macbook Pro (2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAM, nVidia GT330M with switching), and have it hooked up to a relatively old Samsung SyncMaster 2223NW widescreen LCD monitor. I'm running the laptop side by side with the monitor (not in clamshell). For the most part this works great, though I have noticed the CPU and the GPU Diode run at least 10 degrees warmer than they would when just using it as a laptop.
The problem comes in when watching HD (720p or 1080p) video on YouTube. During playback it seems to cause strange black lines/artifacts which flicker all over the screen. Standard Def video is fine, only happens with HD content. I don't know whether this is an indication that the GPU is overworked (though the temperature seems to be within normal limits) or something to do with the analogue VGA connection or the adapter itself.
As I attempted to shut down my Mac mini, it asked me if I wanted to update before shutting down. I said yes. The computer installed the updates and shut down just fine. I unplugged the computer and took it to my new house. The next morning I started it up, and it seemed to start up fine- the light came on and it made the start up sound. But now it won't display anything through the HDMI port. The tv says 'no signal.' I plugged in my Apple Tv and it works fine. So, the tv and HDMI cable are doing fine and the computer seems to be fine except for the HDMI output. I do not have a computer monitor so I cannot do anything with the computer at the moment.
I just bought Samsung UN46C7000WFXZA. I want to connect my macbook pro to the TV and i got all the cables that i need.
1- HDMI cable 2- Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Female Adapter. 3- this sit that include Audio Cable
[URL] I did connect everything my macbook pro very well to the TV using HDMI cable from the laptop to HDMI/DVI port in the TV. Also I connected the Audio cable from my Headphone port in my laptop to PC/DVI Audio IN in the TV. Yes I got the pic and everything is good but no sound at all. I tried everything and i searched the net but no luck or answer at all.
if i buy the mini display port to dvi adapter, could i use it with a dvi to hdmi cable for my monitor. This is because the dvi and vga ports are already taken up.
I have a macbook pro from fall of 2007. So far it has worked perfectly and I've used it with an LG full hd LCD for about 1,5 years. I use a regular DVI - HDMI cable.About a month back it suddenly stopped working. The TV just tells me "No signal".I didn't change any settings or anything. The computer still recognizes when something is plugged in as the screen flicks blue and the displays icon in the menu bar lists the TV with correct model and resolution. And if I have spaces turned on it changes from 4 to 8 "screens".
I have tried everything from rebooting the computer to resetting P-RAM. I got a new cable, no difference. However when I tried the TV with my friends MBP, it worked. So the problem is definetly in my computer, not in the TV or cable. My OS X is Version 10.5.8 Leopard.
So i bought a mini display port to hdmi converter and im running an hdmi to RCA cable from to my tv. I dont really know how to set it up to put out the video. I went into displays and clicked detect displays and nothing showed up and theres nothing but a blue screen on my tv.
