MacBook Pro :: 13" - Does MINIDISPLAY PORT DVI

View 5 RepliesEver since the latest generation of MacBook/ Macbook Pro you can now send audio over the MiniDisplay Port output. The tech specs on Apples web site say no word about it. Any early adopters out that that can prove me wrong? 2 Cables (power, MiniDisplay Port to HDMI) is much better than 3 (power, headphone jack, DVI to HDMI in current Old MacBook Pro Setup). With the nice Graphics card the MacBook Air works great as a portable Media player, I just hope it has this feature.

An HDMI adapter that splits into USB and MDP so you can get sound into your TV. No word on pricing but I'm extremely excited for this!
can anyone recommend a minidisplay port to hdmi lead within the UK? For the new 13" mbp (so audio and video).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the latest model of the MacBook Air 13" (mid-2011 model). As recommended by the Apple Store rep, I bought the minidisplay to DVI adpater to connect my 20" Viewsonic VG2030wm. Unfortunately, the MacBook Air 13" is not recognising the monitor. It doesn't detect it at all.
I know the monitor and the DVI cable work because it works with my original MacBook Air (2008 model) that uses a micro-DVI to DVI adapter. My last resort is to take the new MacBook Air, the Viewsonic monitor, cables and adpaters to my local Apple Store to see if they can figure out it out. However, I won't be able to go until two days later when I have access to a car.

View 2 Replies View RelatedTell me if it makes sense. Since the current MiniDisplay Port adapters are NOT bidirectional and we need a bidirectional cable to make the PS3 display on the iMac, I was wondering if I purchased that new bidirectional cable by Belkin that it is advertised to let you use your iMac's screen with your MacBook Pro and then buy a female minidisplay port to female HDMI.
Would that work? It makes sense right?
Where can I find a FEMALE MiniDisplay Port to FEMALE HDMI adapter? I have searched and can't seem to find one.
I have a new Macbook Pro, and currently have it connected to a 22" Insignia 1080p TV. The setup is a minidisplay to DVI adapter, and a DVI to HDMI cable plugged into the adapter and the TV. My trouble is that the TV is displaying a "No Signal" message now, after working perfectly fine this afternoon. Any hints or suggestions? I've tried rebooting, plugging in the cable before and after starting up the computer, and all HDMI ports on the TV. Again, I had the exact same setup this afternoon, and it worked beautifully, but now it refuses to.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been searching high and low and cannot find a MDP-to-HDMI cable (not adapter) that supports audio out for use with my MBP. Does such a cable exist, or do I absolutely need to use an adapter? Looking for the cleanest solution possible. Looks like I found a cable on eBay. They do exist from individual cable-makers, but it looks like they don't exist from cable manf's like Monoprice and Blue Jeans Cable.

View 19 Replies View RelatedI've recently got the Apple MiniDisplay port to VGA adapter for my mid-2010 Macbook Pro (2.4GHz i5, 4GB RAM, nVidia GT330M with switching), and have it hooked up to a relatively old Samsung SyncMaster 2223NW widescreen LCD monitor. I'm running the laptop side by side with the monitor (not in clamshell). For the most part this works great, though I have noticed the CPU and the GPU Diode run at least 10 degrees warmer than they would when just using it as a laptop.
The problem comes in when watching HD (720p or 1080p) video on YouTube. During playback it seems to cause strange black lines/artifacts which flicker all over the screen. Standard Def video is fine, only happens with HD content. I don't know whether this is an indication that the GPU is overworked (though the temperature seems to be within normal limits) or something to do with the analogue VGA connection or the adapter itself.

How many of you would like to see a HDMI Port? Why the miniDisplay port? Why not remove ethernet jack and miniDisplay port and replace it with a HDMI port. That way one HDMI cable feeds digital video AND audio. Am I the only one thinking of this?
View 22 Replies View RelatedI have just ordered a new MacBook Pro and it does not have enough USB ports for my needs. If I have a USB 3.0 hub and I mix USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 peripherals on it, will the whole hub/computer USB 3.0 port be slowed down to USB 2.0 speeds?I am thinking back to Firewire, if you have Firewire 800 and 400 devices on the same chain, the whole chain slowed to Firewire 400 speeds.I don't think this is the same with USB but wanted some reassurance..

I am having issues with my Dual Band 1TB time capsule for some reason the damn ports won't forward I have enabled the correct settings with the ip address and the ports, but when I use a program to test if the ports are open they are always closed, regardless on pc or mac. Does anyone have a solution to this? I even reset my Time capsule to see if it would work, but no luck.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHere's the deal, I am so frustrated. I am trying to open port 59152 for Transmission on my Macbook Pro. I have the latest releases of everything, I am using an Airport Extreme base station with an older airport to boost my signal/connect my tivo w/out a wireless adapter.
I have managed to get it open in the past but there was an update or something a month or two ago and at first it was still open and then it closed. I don't know what changed with the update, all I know is that I did n't change anything.
I have granted permission for Transmission to accept incoming connections on the firewall, little snitch allows it too. I have lighthouse, which worked at first but now I don't even know why I bother having it run. I have the port mapped through the airport utility.
PLEASE don't say to go to portforward.com because they haven't updated the Airport section since Leopard came out, yet every search I do someone repeatedly tells the person needing help to go to [URL]
I am going to attach some screen captures so you can see what I've got going on and maybe point out something I've missed.
Relevant newbie to the mac world. I have a MBP late 2009. I bought a third party Mini display port to HDMI converter so I can hook the MBP to my 46" Samsung screen.
This works fine, no major issues here. However the picture is not great. I compared watching a standard definition TV show through the MBP then burnt it onto a DVD. The DVD (using the PS3 as my DVD drive, connected via HDMI) had superior quality than through the MBP.
Also the picture does not quite fill the screen. There is a small black border running all the way around the screen. Does not sound significant but when doing the same comparison as above, you notice the difference when via DVD the movie fills the screen. I have played around with the resolution settings. Those that fill the screen chop bits of the mac desktop off, so thats no good either.
So I am wondering why this is? Is it because the mini display port is not a DVI port, hence I am not getting true HD quality picture? How can I overcome this if at all. I'm thinking of getting a mac mini as a media hub/HTPC but want to ensure I dont encounter the same problems.
is there a adapter with both a usb port and an eternet port?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post on the forums, although I'm planning on looking around in here once in a while, to see what people are posting.
For starters, I just wanted to tell you about this little problem I've been having with my MacBook 1,83GHz.
Sitting at my desk at work one morning, peacefully drinking my coffee, I suddenly received a rather discomforting error-message from my shiny new (about 1 month old) MacBook;
"A USB devise is currently drawing too much power and the port will be deactivated.".
For anyone wanting to use their Mini Display port connector on their 4870 with a panel that has the standard size display port connector, I've found a source for a cable that works perfectly. It has the mini display port on one end and a full size display port on the other. Cost $19 bucks shipped and works like a champ. The cable is nice and compact, thinner and more flexible than my DVI cable. I'm quite pleased! ( it's the little things.... )
Here is the cable I picked up: Mini Display Port to Display Port cable
My iMac is I think 2009 model. It comes with a mini-display port.
I have a Dell monitor which has a Display port input and I want to use it as a second monitor. The DVI input in the Dell monitor is taken up.
But how do I connect from the mini-display in the iMac to the Display port in Dell monitor ? Doesn't look like aplle sell this connector cable !

Is there an advantage to using Display Port over the DVI port? To use the display port I would have to use the apple converter and plug my DVI cable into that.

have you ever found it is hard to plug the usb cable into the usb port without lifting up the air? everytime i want connect my iphone to it, i have to lift it up, which is really annoying.

Im totally new to Mac's and have always used Windows based PC's. I work with Cisco kit a lot and often console into them using a serial port on the PC or a USB to Serial adaptor on the laptop. I can then use something like Putty to console to the Cisco kit via the com port assigned to the USB to Seriall adaptor...well Im having trouble getting my USB to Serial adaptor working with my newly purchase MBP (Just had it 2 weeks and still getting to grips with it)
Firstly when I plugged in my USB to Serial adaptor I expected some sort of pop up or activity while the MBP installs it but nothing has come up so maybe this one isnt compatible with the MBP. Secondly Im struggling to find an application that I can use like Putty on the MBP?
I recently got a Macbook and have a iPhone and iPod shuffle. The thing is there isn't enough usb ports on the Macbook so I had to get a hub. The hub I got IS self powered and does not require a external power adapter. My concern is that I am withdrawing too much power from my usb port through this hub. It is a 4 port hub and a External HDD ( has own power supply), Optical mouse is connected to it. also I charge my iPhone and shuffle via the same hub.
I am afraid that there is power limit feature and it will fry my computer. I notice if I boot in boot camp to windows. Windows will display a error message telling me, I am not allowed to have this many device drawing this much power. Anyone know if I should be okay as long as OS X doesn't give me a message or should I really consider getting a USB hub with its own power adaptor?
What is this? I was comparing the Macbook pros and came across that option. What is it? what does it do?
