MacBook :: Macbook Not Charging Indicator When Magsafe Connected - What I Can Do?

Aug 31, 2010

I was playing Starcraft on my macbook (old 2008 white macbook) as I have windows 7 ultimate installed on this as well and all of a sudden the macbook died. I went to get the charger to connect it back to the macbook so I can play again. After a while I decided to just use the macbook on the battery alone but when I pulled the magsafe out the whole thing shut off and it wouldn't turn back on. The battery indicator shows 3 out of 5 left on it so I know the battery still works..i think... then I turned on the macbook with the power plug connected and it says "Not charging"...Is there something wrong with the magsafe or the battery? I dont think its the magsafe since it is working when I connect it and the macbook turns on...However it just keeps staying lit GREEN the whole time. It usually turns orange too mean it is charging

MacBook :: Battery Not Charging - All Indicator Lights Comes On

Mar 29, 2010

I've already tried the "remove the battery and hold the power button down, then put the battery back in, etc." thing. Not working. My MacBook keeps saying my battery is not charging. If I press the button on my battery, all five green indicator lights come on, as if the battery is fully charged. When unplug the MacBook's power cord, the computer goes dead. This is a 2.4 Penryn black MacBook.

MacBook Pro :: Charging 13 Not MagSafe Related + Isight Not Working?

May 6, 2012

Having weird problems with my MacBook Pro 13 (MacBookPro5,5).  I bought this needing repair and replaced the LCD, the LCD Glass, the Camera/mic cable, and bought a used battery because the old one showed "Service Now".  Just when I thought putting all this work in would get me going, I ran into two different problems that are driving me crazy. The battery will not charge with any magsafe attached (I have quite a few).  The only way I can get it to finally charge is to remove the bottom cover, unplug the battery, and use a new, l-shape 85W Power supply to get it to charge again,  It charges ONLY until I remove it.  Once I remove the power suppy...even for a second, I will not light up again and it will go on battery power until it disappates (then I start all over ).  I've tried every reset in the book, so it has nothing to do with the PMR or SMC (or however they are named).  Also, before anyone asks...the old "Service Now" battery behaves exactly the same way .The isight camera STILL does not work, even with the new cable.  Furthermore, I had another cover for the same unit with a camera in it and its own cable and tried to use the camera with that setup, and it still did not work.  My guess is there is either an issue with logic board or the cable connector on the logic board.

The Apple Hardware test passes perfectly every time I run it (quick and extended). Disk is fine...checked it with drive genius and disk drill.  I am open to suggestions if anyone has them.  I'm guessing this is out of warantee, nor was I the original owner.   Anyone have any ideas?  Open to anything at this point.

MacBook Pro :: Magsafe 2 Is Plugged In But Battery Status Is Not Charging

My magsafe 2 is plugged in but the light's not on. My battery status shows it plugged in, but says "battery is not charging."

I've reset the SMC several times and have been able to get it to work again, sometimes after going through the process several times. Sometimes the yellow light stays on even after I unplug the magsafe.

MacBook Pro :: 85W MagSafe 2010 15" Stopped Charging Randomly?

Jun 20, 2010

just moments ago i plugged in my mbp and literally 1 minute or so later i hear a static fuzz sound (hard to describe) but if i had to give a similar sound it was exactly like the sound your radio alarm clock makes sometimes when your cell phone is nearby receiving an incoming call or text w/e, your alarm clock sometimes makes that sudden static fuzz sound.

well my mbp made that sound, wasn't as distorted as an radio alarm clock would make, but it sounded more precise. the sound came out of the left speaker for a second or so (no music or movie or any program with sound effects were active at this moment) i believe right where the magsafe is hooked into. and i was like "what the heck was that?? and was it from my mbp??" so i looked at the magsafe and sure enough the orange charging light was out as if it was unplugged (but it was still plugged IN) so i unhooked it then rehooked it and now it charged like normal again, still hasn't done it again while i started this thread.

any thoughts?? additional info i have to add is, i was swapping out the extension pieces from the smaller cord adapter, to the full 8 foot or so cord one. but when i switched out the small single piece i tugged in the opposite direction, i pulled up against the metal circle joint, instead of sliding left to unhooked the metal circle thing (w/e u call it). i felt the piece and its in full contact, i didn't loosen it or anything. could this be the random cause?

lastly, that static noise i heard that ended up causing the magsafe to stop charging. could that static noise damage my speakers?

additional info i also had my cell phone like 8 inches away from the magsafe. could the cell phone have the same static frequency or w/e that can interfere with the magnet/charging cycle?? i didn't receive any calls or texts when it happened. so i dunno if cell phones have frequencies constantly that could possibly cause my issue without having the receive incoming calls or texts etc.

MacBook Pro :: Do Magsafe Adapters Only Initiate Charging After Laptop Closed

Apr 18, 2012

I purchased a replacement magsafe 85w adapter for my MacBook Pro and was wondering if the new cable requires you to have your laptop closed to initiate the charge process on your computer.I notice that if I attach it with my laptop powered on and my computer open it will not initiate a charge (light up on the cable or show the charge icon on screen). If I power down my laptop and close the lid, disconnect and reconnect the magsafe cable the light on the cable will light up and initiate the charge. I tried this also on sleep mode with the laptop closed and the light on the cable started up without disconnecting. I was able to boot up my computer and continue working and the charge continued but I had to initiate it first with the lid closed either in an off or sleep mode. Just wondering if this is the new norm as I just moved from the old "T" style magsafe to the new "L" style magsafe.

Or should Apple be able to do it for me?

MacBook :: Plugged In And Connected But No Charging

Nov 6, 2010

In the last few months I have been having trouble charging my Macbook (Early 2008). My computer is about 2 and a half years old. When I plug in my Macbook with the MagSafe power adapter, the little light that is supposed to show up green or red usually does not show up at all. Sometimes the light shows up green when it is not fully charged. Also, when my Macbook is plugged in, it does not usually start charging, though the charge on the battery will stay static. For example, I have been using my Macbook for the last 3 hours. Even though it's plugged in, the charge on the battery is still at 38%. I have tried shutting down my computer, popping out the battery, and then putting the battery back in. This allowed me to start charging my computer one time, but it obviously did not fix the problem. One time I held my Macbook and shook it up and down a couple of times, and when I plugged it in again, it started charging. Here is my hardware information:

MacBook :: If Battery Is Always There And Macbook Is Connected To Magsafe The Battery Die Fast

Jun 7, 2009

I get my first macbook yesterday. Loving it! Got the White model, the first refresh of the year, just before this june refresh, buy I don't care.

So, here's the deal. I gonna use this machine 80% of the time in my home, not gonna move it from the desktop. So I'm using right now without battery, connected to the macsafe. Should I keep it that way? or I need to put the battery? Because I heard that if the battery is always there and the macbook is connected to magsafe, the battery die fast. I also don't know if that I'm doing is safe for the Macbook, to say without batery.

When I first remove the batery, something really strage felt off the macbook, was like a tiny tiny tiny little metal, works well without it, but I want to be sure that's nothing importante.

OS X :: AC Charger Information - Connected Yes / Charging No

Jun 28, 2009

My Macbook hasn't been able to be charged for a while now. Basically if you take the battery out while the computer is running and its plugged in, it will shut off but in a few seconds it lets me power it on without the battery in it. So normally I just put the battery back in and leave it plugged in so the battery keeps its charge. It's been at 37% for a few weeks and will not charge up, it just looses power if disconnected from the power cord.

So when I go to system profiler it says,

My Macbook pro is not charging. If I move the cord (specially at the Macbook charging port) it charges. But again if the cord is slightly disturbed then it doesn't charge. The problem got worse as my Mac randomly shuts down (especially when I remove the mag at the Macbook charging port). I dono what to do. Apple care (Genius) is far from my place. There is no visible physical damage on my mag charger. Could anyone suggest what I should do? MacBook Pro :: Mid-2009 13" Says "not Charging" But Seems To Be Slowly Charging With Power Adapter

May 19, 2012

I have a mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro with 8GB RAM.  I have the odd situation of the power indicator on top right of screen showing that the power adapter is plugged in, but the percentage indicator stating that the laptop is "not charging."  I have been working on the computer for several hours and the laptop has only charged to about 27 percent according to the battery health application that is runningI have.  It says the battery has gone through 281 cycles and is 2.4 years old.  It suggests the battery should still charge to 92 percent of its potential.  The battery is warm as is the power adapter cube, so something is happening.  The little light on the end of the power cord is green but only two of the little green dots light up on the left edge of the computer.

MacBook Air :: Speculation Why No HDD Accessing Indicator

Feb 9, 2010

So I was sitting around with my MBA and it froze, I admit I was a bit ambitious in trying to launch several things at once none of which were "nice" per se, but nevertheless, I didn't want to restart it just in case it'd start responding again. Now at this point, if I had an ugly as hell laptop from some cheap company (or even the more expensive non-apple branded laptops), there would be a light which flickers to tell me whether things are still happening or not, and when it stops I'd know, "damn windows has let me down again" or whatever it is that caused me to crash my laptop. But with the mac laptops, this indication does not exist and it is a minor annoyance, but nevertheless, it begs the qusetion, why doesn't it exist? Why is there no "activity" light on a laptop? Or the iMac for that matter? Or any mac? Is it a sign of "oh we're so responsive that you'll never need indication that we're not responding"? Because well that's just crap.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Indicator Lights Don't Fade?

Oct 19, 2010

I recently had issues regarding my display (June 2009 MBP 17") not dimming as the ambient lighting changed. The issue was only recent. I reset the SMC, and that has appeared to fix it.

However, I've noticed that the battery indicator lights do not fade after 5 seconds anymore and just turn straight off when the computer is open and on. When shut down or asleep, they behave as normal.

I reset the SMC again to ty and fix this but there was no change.

Now, I could be wrong, and maybe that's how it always was, but I do remember them fading no matter whether the computer was active or off.

Can anyone confirm this and if so, provide any possible fixes?

It's not a huge issue, just a minor annoyance now that I'm aware of it.

MacBook Pro :: Gray Screen With 'indicator Bars'?

I just came inside after being outside for about 6 hours. When I opened my shell, there was no screen light-up, no keyboard lights, etc. I had already plugged into my power adapter and external hard drives (just as I always do). I punched keys, tried to use the trackpad - nothing. So I hit the power button for a few seconds. My screen came up seriously grayed out with 'indicator bars' (such as the ones that control brightness, sort of, but larger) at the bottom of my screen. Once they al went on, from left to right, my computer was awakened from it's normal sleep mode.
