MacBook Pro :: Battery Indicator Jumps From 23% To 51% And Turns Red?

Dec 29, 2009

Over the last few weeks my battery health on my late '07 MBP has declined from about 79% to a terrible 39% this morning. However, just a few minutes ago something very strange happened. The charge indicator jumped from 23% to 51%, but the indicator remained red. I did a search but didn't find anything about this issue, so I thought I'd post. Has anyone seen this before?

I just calibrated my battery 2 days ago and it still showed my health as 39%, but now iStat is showing the battery health as 70%. The battery info is listed below:

MacBook Pro :: Battery Indicator Lights Show Full Battery But Won't Turn On?

Apr 2, 2012

I have an early 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. For about a year now, the status of the battery has been "replace soon." I was still getting a pretty good amount of time off of one charge so I wasn't too worried. This past Saturday morning, I woke up, checked the battery indicator lights on my computer (it had been sleeping since the day before) and it said it had about 60% percent so I opened it. I was on the Internet for about 10 minutes before it shut off without warning.

It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button, so I plugged it in and it turned back on. When I checked, the battery status was "replace now." After using it, I turned it back off and left for NYC for the weekend and didn't bring it with me. When I got home last night, I plugged it in and tried turning it on with no luck. The battery indicator light was flashing one light, so I just assumed it would need to charge for a bit before it would turn back on. After about two hours, when I went to bed, it still was flashing just one light. I kept it plugged in over night, and this morning when I checked it, the battery indicator lights showed that it was fully charged, but it still wouldn't turn on. I still kept it plugged in throughout the day just in case, but it still won't turn on even though all the lights are lit. Is the battery just showing me false information, or should I be worried about more than just the battery?

MacBook Pro :: Battery Indicator Lights Don't Fade?

Oct 19, 2010

I recently had issues regarding my display (June 2009 MBP 17") not dimming as the ambient lighting changed. The issue was only recent. I reset the SMC, and that has appeared to fix it.

However, I've noticed that the battery indicator lights do not fade after 5 seconds anymore and just turn straight off when the computer is open and on. When shut down or asleep, they behave as normal.

I reset the SMC again to ty and fix this but there was no change.

Now, I could be wrong, and maybe that's how it always was, but I do remember them fading no matter whether the computer was active or off.

Can anyone confirm this and if so, provide any possible fixes?

It's not a huge issue, just a minor annoyance now that I'm aware of it.

MacBook Pro :: Randomly Shuts Down Now With Red Battery Indicator At 52%

Dec 4, 2014

For the past few days, my mid 2012 15" rMBP has been powering down or sleeping while in the middle of performing tasks, and more importantly when it's ABOVE 15% charge. Just today however, I now have a red battery indication at 52% and holding.

At the time, I had an external monitor plugged into the thunderbolt port closest to the ac adaptor port. I was running Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, but nothing else, and was not connected to the internet. I had turned wifi off. My problems continued until I plugged in. Once on a full charge, I unplugged and the same thing happened all over. Numerous times. So, I disconnected the external monitor, and thought that solved my problem. The next time I used the computer, I put the external monitor into the other TB port and did not have any issues, however I wasn't using the rMBP as extensively.

Today, again while performing tasks such as importing/exporting images with LR & PS, my laptop shut itself down. It runs warm, and fans are purring like crazy, but that's normal for the work I'm doing. Prior to the shut down, the battery read ~24%. I plugged in and woke it up. No external monitor is attached today. I am not running any other programs besides Chrome at the moment. I noticed a red battery light at 52% and it has not changed. Option clicking the indicator shows a "normal" condition.

OS 10.8.5
2.6 ghz intel i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
250 GB SSD (with ~25GB free)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB

I have had a Speck hard shell case covering the laptop for a few weeks, but no issues until this week.I am a pro photographer who shoots tethered on location and carries my rMBP around on assignment. It has never been dropped, or damaged in any way.

This is my current system info:

MacBook :: 2.1 Won't Hold Charge But Battery Indicator Is Full

Jun 7, 2012

My wife's Macbook 2.1 is acting strangely. The Battery indicator led's are full (green) the charger led is also green and the software shows 100% battery is charged. After a couple of seconds after disconnecting the charger it switches off. I've tried resetting the SMC and this allowed a full nights use without the charger but on the next day it went back to only holding for a couple of seconds. I don't want to have to reset the SMC every day. It's running on 10.5.8 and is all up to date.

MacBook Pro :: Battery Time Remaining Indicator Works Wrong ?

Oct 28, 2010

I am new (sort of) to owning a Mac, I bought my macbook pro a couple days ago, so far I havent used it much for other than surfing the net. My question is regarding the Battery time remaining indicator, first of all it changes alot, so i never truly know how much time I have left. Is this normal? It can say anywhere from 3-6 hours left when I am at 90% battery. Usually at 90% battery it says I have about 4.5 - 5 hour left. I thought I was supposed to get up to ten hours of battery? The percent indicator seems to go down fairly fast like 1% every few minutes. Is this Normal? Should I take my macbook over to the apple store to be checked out?

I already tried switching the ram for a dead or faulty ram but still nothing. Also the power adapter doesn't seem to want to work. When I plug it to the macbook, I can hear small sparks each time, looking at it, there are some black marks on both the charger and the mac. [URL]s

MacBook Pro :: Retina Is Missing Battery Time Remaining Indicator

Jun 20, 2012

The battery indicator on the top menu bar on my other MBP's gives 3 selectable options for display: Icon Only, Percentage, and Time Remaining. My new MBP retina only has 'Icon' and 'Percentage'. You can still see time remaining by clicking on the battery icon manually.

Applecare said "they must have removed it for that new version of the MBP, you could always try reinstalling the O/S from scratch just to be sure".

Under Energy Saver the only option is to 'show battery status' on the top bar.

MacBook :: Turns Off At 30 To 40% Battery

Jan 3, 2011

This has happened twice not. I'll be using my MacBook and it will have around 40-60 minutes worth of battery left, around 30% or 40%, and it will just shut off. No warning at all, it just turns off as if I've pulled the battery out. I plug it into the mains and turn it back on and it says I have at least 30% battery left. Is my battery dying?

OS X :: Airport Can't Find Network Until Battery Indicator Done Calculating?

Feb 26, 2009

I don't know if anybody else experiences this problem, but when I open my laptop (from sleep) and then try to find a network via the airport icon in the menubar it won't find anything until the battery life indicator is done "calculating". Sometimes that is around 10 seconds... I don't see how they are related, but it always works out that way for me. As soon as it's done calculating the remaining battery time I can click on the airport icon and it will find a network within a few seconds. Otherwise it just sits there searching and won't find anything...

The pointer has serious issues moving around on the screen, especially in slow operation/movements it will jerk around and not stay where its supposed to be. If I just hold my finger in one place it will jump around very noticeably, inches even. Even clicking sometimes takes a few hard taps when just barely touching it would work. I've tried restarting and that didn't clear it up as well as changing some scrolling speeds. Just wondering if anyone else had seen this problem.
