I've noticed over the last few months of owning my macbook. When ever I watch youtube, my fans go crazy, its unbearable. Having to get my headphones out to cancel out the noise. Its in a well ventilated area. youtube virus?

So i use iMovie 09's HD redering option for Youtube, so that is 720p, now that Youtube has an option for 1080p, what would be the best setting in iMovie to export in 1080p? iMovie only has a 720p Youtube setting.
I files i have are full HD.
I've noticed (actually the past few months, but it never really annoyed me until recently), that my left fan will spin really fast and very loud a few times during the day at random moments. Sometimes I will leave my computer for a few minutes, and it won't be doing anything difficult (just finder, or something not cpu intensive), and it will be blowing like crazy when I come back. These "episodes" last for a few minutes and then return to normal. Activity monitor shows that my cpu is barely being used, so nothing is taxing the system. Weirdly enough, when this happens, istat says the fan is at 0 RPM, yet it is very loud. I cleaned out my fans with a little keyboard vacuum to make sure there was not dust stuck in their, but it still makes those fan noises occasionally. I even did the Apple hardware test, and nothing showed up. I have a late 08 MBP.

View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery few minutes the fan on my Macbook Pro will get from 4000-6000rpm. It gets really noisy and pretty warm. Turning it on/off has little effect and it seems to just crop up, even if i have nothing too crazy going on, example, just now its going crazy but only google chrome (4tabs) and microsoft word are open. The laptop is but 2 months old and this problem only came up a week ago.

I just bought a new macbook pro a little over a month ago and have since upgraded to Snow Leopard (fresh install). One day about a week ago, out of no where, the mail application seemed to launch itself whenever I opened my laptop (resume from hibernate?). It is asking me for my name and email address to start setting it up. From there, I press cancel and the window disappears but the icon stays on the dock like its open and when I go to the Force Quit window it shows Mail as not responding and I have to force quit it. This doesnt happen every time but happens pretty often for seemingly no reason.

I recently got a new iMac, its been fine, but just today I have opened Numbers and some crazy colours, like a graphics problem have flickered up onto the screen but go away pretty quick, after I have clicked on a few things and stuff.
They tend to be red, yellow and green colours from what i have seen. It has only happened since I opened Numbers, and its all up to date. (Version 1.0.3.) It also flickered up a little on iTunes while Numbers was open, where its has the time bar and song name and stuff.
After my mac shop swapped out the mobo in my macbok pro, coconut battery shows Battery Age: 24468 months? How can I get back to my good old 2 months?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAt work im working on a Mac Pro 2x 2.8ghz quad core xeon.. when it comes out of sleep the mouse acts fine for about 5 secounds.. and then starts darting all over the place and then freezes in one area. I can stick click but not move the mouse. This is what i have tried so far.
1. disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse.
2. Looked in console for any weird mouse errors.
3. put it back to sleep and woke it back up.
4. restarted.
5. changed the energy saver options.
6. looked around mouse and keyboard cp for options.
7. tried another mouse.
8. tried using a mouse pad.
this is what has worked, but only works for about 5 secounds before it goes crazy again and then stops moving. force quit the finder. if i restart it, its fine till i put it to sleep and then it all starts over again. the system is fully patched to 10.5.6 with all the efi updates from apple update.

I have a Rev A 1.6/80.
Just running on battery, the estimated time remaining is normal. About 4:00 with a 97% charge.
But when I have it plugged in, it goes really low. About 20-14 minutes. I know I have an almost full charge and the battery isn't shot or anything because I just used it for about 3 hours yesterday without plugging in. Even with the innacurate estimate it still reports the % correctly.
The iStat widget reports similar numbers, but not exactly the same. 16 on it, as opposed to 13 in the menu bar.
I recently got myself a hard drive but because my father took it with him he used it for a while. When i got it back it was al f*cked up he offcourse needed to mess with it and made it partitioned...
So well no big deal, i plugged it in on windows, works fine. Tried on iMac, doesn't work... i said probably because it's partitioned. So i installed partition manager. Deleted the partitions. And made it back too 1. Made it NTFS and everything worked fine. But again when i plugged it in on my iMac it wouldn't work. It makes some crazy ticking sounds but it doesn't mount i cant even see it in disk management.
So well, i reformated in FAT32, same result.
I did everything what i could, bought disk warior or something but still it won't find it.
It works fine on windows, it doesn't on mac, i want too use it interchangeable between mac and windows
Today, I got home and turned on my iMac 21.5 inch. On a typical day, I'd here the "BONG" and then everything would be normal. Today, my fans, or something inside the computer, sounded like it was going crazy. I have no idea what's wrong.
On MBA Rev2/SSD after watching 3-4 minutes into a video, on a flat wooden desk, in the new "Watch in HD" format which is suppose to be 720p, the fans rev to 6200rpm and temp at 80C. Mind you I am still in safari and not watching YouTube's full screen mode. And recovery times for the fan to slow down even when it's back to 50C is a bit long. Is this normal behavior for a Rev2?

The adapter is a Mini Display Port (MDP) to TV (HDMI).
I get the standard desktop on the TV but I don't get my desktop or the Quicktime Player? Is there a function key that I press to toggle to my desktop?
I know this must be simple, but I have never done it. My DVD player broke and I thought I could watch a movie on my TV using my MacBook. I have a miniDVI-VGA cable and a VGA extension to my TV, but I don't get a picture on the TV, just the MacBook.

My i5 MBA seems to only get hot if I have a video up and playing. If I pause the video or switch to a new screen (while the video is still playing) it will cool down. The problem doesn't seem to be with "playing" the video but more with the visual display and ideas? This is a new MBA I bought 3 months ago it has 1.7 GHz i5 with 4GB. Oh and what I mean by hot is 90-95C.

I see they are using the same CPU and GPU, so I'll assume they are going to stutter watching video like the other MBA's do. I'd be curious what someone more technically inclined has to say after looking at the specs and hardware, or if the flash memory hard drive might help with that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my air a few days ago, as a 2nd computer, a portable to go with my desktop. however I am finding that it is actually a bit too slow for my needs (i got the 1.6/80gb), even as a secondary computer.
I kinda wanted to use the air as my appletv device - to watch all the things I've downloaded on my desktop on my HDTV, which is in another room.
Loading up youtube and flash heavy sites seems to make the fan speed up to full blast. Watching divx movies also makes it spin up to max.
Some video files (notably RMVB real player files) play very jerkily and result in dropped frames, but usually the audio is alright.
All in all, quite disappointing as its a nice little machine otherwise. Just the dropped video frames and fan spinning up to max to watch files is kinda hard to live with. Anyone else finding this with their air?
2 days now while reading an online journal and watching a real estate display, my 2 1/2 yr old MBP, while on battery just crashed. Could not reboot or anything until I plugged it in.

About a month and a half ago, however, I was watching a TV show online on my computer when the video suddenly started lagging and freezing. This had never happened to me before, and now my computer just can't run a video without lagging. Before I first discovered this problem, I was watching a lot of episodes of TV shows, so I was thinking maybe that had something to do with the problem. Is there anything I can do?

All I have open is firefox with one or two tab and the CPU gets into the high 70 Celsius before the fan kicks in. Is it normal for the CPU to get that hot? Or is it even safe? It says I am using up to 70% of CPU at times!!!Is HD flash that taxing?
View 11 Replies View Relatedi've noticed for a while now that everytime i watch videos on my macbook pro, using vlc player, sometimes the video picture would stop, and or stutter, if it would stop, the audio would go on, but the video remains stop, after a few seconds, before the video would resume, the video would be distort or scrambled for a few seconds before it would come back to normal, it had been happening for some time now, i thought it was just the software, so i tried another player, the mplayer for mac, and it still would stop at random times. but last night, after stuttering for every 10 minutes while watching the video, the screen on my macbook pro freezed. i cannot do anything, but my mouse is movable, and the caps lock on the keyboard still lights, but i cannot do anything but to do a hard reset, it is the first time that has happened to me, the screen freezing, and i don't know if it has anything to do with the stuttering of the video.

Is there a difference in watching a 720p video on a 15" hi-res compared to a normal res 15"? In full screen that is.
Which one better handles HD video, the dedicated Intel HD or the nVidia 330M?
I watch a lot of HD video on my i5 and it mostly handles it without a hiccup but on occasion there is some slight stuttering when there is fast motion (with 1080p, the 720p stuff is handled well)...I think the default chip for most video is the Intel HD but I would think the nVidia would better handle these bigger files...any thoughts?
(of course with battery use I know the nVidia is a resourse/energy hog)
