MacBook Pro :: Crashes While Watching Multimedia?
Apr 21, 2010
2 days now while reading an online journal and watching a real estate display, my 2 1/2 yr old MBP, while on battery just crashed. Could not reboot or anything until I plugged it in.

If I'm watching a movie/video etc, Is there a quick and easy way to disable the screen saver / the screen from reducing it's brightness / the system from going to sleep ? (and if so, how to re-enable them again?)

I'm getting rid of the bulk on my desk and that means out goes the aging 5.1 Logitech z6800. Still stacks up well against the best of them but it's just too bulky with the control pod and such.
I'm looking for some 2.0 without the subwoofer. The H/K Soundstick II intrigued me a little but I'm narrowing my search down to subwoofer-less setup for now. It doesn't necessarily have to be the best sounding but something minimalist and isn't going to sound tinny.

I have a couple of Dell Multimedia keyboards, Windows/PC obviously, model SK-8135. In addition to special dedicated keys for web/home, e-mail, back & forward web browser button and calculator, it has a rotary volume knob and playback controls for audio/visual.
Is there a add-on program or patch that can translate such functions from a PC keyboard to iMac?

is there an app out there where there is a monthly calendar where photos/videos with date/time information is automatically added to the correct day and you can then see a thumbnail of the media on each day when you zoom out and see the whole month on the calendar.

with user upload of pics, audio, video and text. The ability to annotate pics would be nice. Each main item page in the database would need to be accessible by:  URL?<target info> Either a hosted service or a system I can install on my own servers would be great.Â

I am a Windows user , An old user since 90's , Yesterday I was really impressed by the new iMac the OS and its smoothness and responsiveness and the sleek interface , I am thinking seriously to switch to Mac but the problem is most games and multimedia apps are not working with the Mac ,major games like GTA IV and FIFA 12 are not compatible and the companies need to make a special version for Mac like Office and Norton So apart from being here in Apple forum ..What's the right decision should I take ..switiching to Mac or waiting for Windows 8 to release ?

I have tried unsuccessfully to download Nokia Multimedia Transfer. I have also tried unsuccessfully to remove it. When I startup my iMac the Nokia application is open waiting to setup Bluetooth. I have tried to do this but still to no avail. I am unable to remove the icon from the desktop. There is no icon in the Applications folder in the Dock. The operating system is OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

On MBA Rev2/SSD after watching 3-4 minutes into a video, on a flat wooden desk, in the new "Watch in HD" format which is suppose to be 720p, the fans rev to 6200rpm and temp at 80C. Mind you I am still in safari and not watching YouTube's full screen mode. And recovery times for the fan to slow down even when it's back to 50C is a bit long. Is this normal behavior for a Rev2?

I bought a Monoprice adapter to send video feeds from my 2009 Macbook Pro to my TV.
The adapter is a Mini Display Port (MDP) to TV (HDMI).
I get the standard desktop on the TV but I don't get my desktop or the Quicktime Player? Is there a function key that I press to toggle to my desktop?

I know this must be simple, but I have never done it. My DVD player broke and I thought I could watch a movie on my TV using my MacBook. I have a miniDVI-VGA cable and a VGA extension to my TV, but I don't get a picture on the TV, just the MacBook.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I was curious if the cursor icon when a link is being hovered over has changed in Safari 5.1.3 from what it used to be. The "hand" now seems to be tilted a bit and the pointer finger at an angle.Â
Just curious-- or insane.

My i5 MBA seems to only get hot if I have a video up and playing. If I pause the video or switch to a new screen (while the video is still playing) it will cool down. The problem doesn't seem to be with "playing" the video but more with the visual display and ideas? This is a new MBA I bought 3 months ago it has 1.7 GHz i5 with 4GB. Oh and what I mean by hot is 90-95C.

I see they are using the same CPU and GPU, so I'll assume they are going to stutter watching video like the other MBA's do. I'd be curious what someone more technically inclined has to say after looking at the specs and hardware, or if the flash memory hard drive might help with that.

I just got my air a few days ago, as a 2nd computer, a portable to go with my desktop. however I am finding that it is actually a bit too slow for my needs (i got the 1.6/80gb), even as a secondary computer.
I kinda wanted to use the air as my appletv device - to watch all the things I've downloaded on my desktop on my HDTV, which is in another room.
Loading up youtube and flash heavy sites seems to make the fan speed up to full blast. Watching divx movies also makes it spin up to max.
Some video files (notably RMVB real player files) play very jerkily and result in dropped frames, but usually the audio is alright.
All in all, quite disappointing as its a nice little machine otherwise. Just the dropped video frames and fan spinning up to max to watch files is kinda hard to live with. Anyone else finding this with their air?

Maybe a strange question, but anyway: I have to do a several hours flight without a chance to charge my 15" MacBook Pro (actual version, i7). As I want to watch some videos while the flight: what is the best way to watch videos in the aspect of energy saving? CD-ROM (disadvantage: the drive?), Hard-disk (also the drive?), USB stick? Maybe some of you have some experience about that....... All videos are in AVI format, so I could use any kind of storag

I've had my MacBook Pro since 2010 and it's been pretty solid for me ever since. About a month and a half ago, however, I was watching a TV show online on my computer when the video suddenly started lagging and freezing. This had never happened to me before, and now my computer just can't run a video without lagging. Before I first discovered this problem, I was watching a lot of episodes of TV shows, so I was thinking maybe that had something to do with the problem. Is there anything I can do?

I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 8GB of OCZ 1333 RAM and an Intel X25-M 160GB SSD. Running 10.6 fully updated and installed from scratch.I have been getting out of the blue crashes while the system is most of the times idle. Can it be the RAM? It's reported fine as 8GB 1333 DDR under the system info. The Intel SSD runs latest firmware.
This is the log from the last crash which happened a little ago.

All I have open is firefox with one or two tab and the CPU gets into the high 70 Celsius before the fan kicks in. Is it normal for the CPU to get that hot? Or is it even safe? It says I am using up to 70% of CPU at times!!!Is HD flash that taxing?

i've noticed for a while now that everytime i watch videos on my macbook pro, using vlc player, sometimes the video picture would stop, and or stutter, if it would stop, the audio would go on, but the video remains stop, after a few seconds, before the video would resume, the video would be distort or scrambled for a few seconds before it would come back to normal, it had been happening for some time now, i thought it was just the software, so i tried another player, the mplayer for mac, and it still would stop at random times. but last night, after stuttering for every 10 minutes while watching the video, the screen on my macbook pro freezed. i cannot do anything, but my mouse is movable, and the caps lock on the keyboard still lights, but i cannot do anything but to do a hard reset, it is the first time that has happened to me, the screen freezing, and i don't know if it has anything to do with the stuttering of the video.

Noob question.
Is there a difference in watching a 720p video on a 15" hi-res compared to a normal res 15"? In full screen that is.

Which one better handles HD video, the dedicated Intel HD or the nVidia 330M?
I watch a lot of HD video on my i5 and it mostly handles it without a hiccup but on occasion there is some slight stuttering when there is fast motion (with 1080p, the 720p stuff is handled well)...I think the default chip for most video is the Intel HD but I would think the nVidia would better handle these bigger files...any thoughts?
(of course with battery use I know the nVidia is a resourse/energy hog)

I've been pondering whether to get the hi res upgrade for my soon-to-be MBP 15''. I was curious as to how HD videos/movies would play with the hi-res. From what I have heard, this upgrade still wont support full 1080 right? will there be a big difference playing 720p on this upgraded screen vs. a non upgraded screen?

I've just purchased a new macbook air 11.6 in and when watching movies (not in ful screen) the screen dims, Im assuming because of inactivity with keyboard, etc. I don't like to watch all movies in full screen, so how do I change the settings to allow for longer 'inactive' times? Meaning, I don't want the screen to dim after only 5 minutes.

I got a brand new Macbook Air yesterday, and everything was working wonderfully. Now, I noticed when I go onto Youtube the computer freezes for about 5-10 seconds as soon as the page loads. This just started happening about an hour or 2 ago. This is also happening when I'm listening to iTunes radio, and an advertisement commercial comes on. If the advertisement plays a video, and iTunes is maximized on my screen my screen will freeze for about 5-10 seconds. Â
I am brand new to using a Mac so I don't know where anything is or how to use it 100% yet. Â
