I have a 13" Macbook. I had a 250 gb and a 500 gb internal hd's already crashed. I just bought a brand new 250 gb thought that this will work. I was wrong. I inserted this hd and turned on the on-switch. The same screen I saw earlier showed again-a blue screen with a file with a (?) sign on it.

I forced shut down and when I turned it back on a circle with a diagonal came up initially, followed by flashes of that, a question mark and the apple symbol. Now it won't get past the grey screen and the flashing symbols.

Just rec'd a new(er) to me Mac Pro 1.1 w/no HD & possibly bad video card 8GB memory and very dirty inside. To test this mac, I put in a new seagate barracuda SATA 1TB HD, hooked up display and tried to fire it up. Got to chime in and then the display showed a grey screen w/file folder with a question mark on it. Only had a mouse last night when trying this and my G5 has a bluetooth keyboard and the mac pro isn't bluetooth, so where do I go from here?
I'm thinking a wired keybrd would allow me to open drive bay to receive Leopard Install disc that I already own and proceed from there? I figure, once I can get this up and running and know there is no problems, I'll dismantel and clean. Also all 8 GB memory was installed on the top riser card? I reset the memory banks to 2 on the top card and 2 on the bottom card as this is what the downloaded manual shows, am I reading that right?

I turned it on today and it gave me a box around a little world, then it gave me the folder with a question mark and gave me the apple logo after that and booted into mac os x. It's really bothering me, is my machine dieing? Or is this just a software issue. A software issue, I can definitely handle if its just a reinstall of mac os x but if its the hard drive connection or logic board then my powerbook is a nice paperweight . Can anyone tell me why it did this and what I should do to fix it? I mean, it works but those symbols at the beginning I know aren't good to see. I recently installed onyx for OS X tiger and ran a few of the operations but I have restarted the computer flawlessly since then.

I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?
I have a macbook pro with retina display, and i want to connect a monitor to the mac. When i connected the mac to the screen, the screen is on another desktop (called desktop 2) but in misson control (on the mac) there is no "desktop 2" and when i add a desktop on the mac, the screen becomes desktop 3. How can i control both displays (screen and mac) but with different windows open on different displays on the same misson control?
So basically i want to have a certain window open (eg. preview) on the screen, and at the same time run (eg. google chrome) on my mac without mirroring the 2 displays.

My MacBook Pro will begin to boot when the screen suddenly becomes distorted by an alternately patterned gray screen. I have performed 2 safeboots and after them, it seems to work fine for just a few (3,4) boots after that. One time when it booted successfully, the screen's background light began to flash very quickly until the screen was distorted again like in the beginning.
I've tried cleaning the PRAM and the NVRAM also but it did not fix the problem.

My MacBook Pro3,1 (early 2007) produces a screen of narrow horizontal bands of black and white, with a few scraps of pale blue and a few fragments of letters, but ONLY when booting from the original install DVD. The displayed pattern has a narrow vertical line in mid-screen, with one side of the displayed pattern shifted up (or down) by the width of the horizontal bands. This display is unreadable, and therefore unusable.
Apple serviced the MBP's defective NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor in 12/2010. A year earlier they replaced the SuperDrive.
In May 2011 I replaced the Apple Memory with 4 GB of Kingston memory.
The MBP boots off of the hard drive into SL 10.6.8 with no problems.
In preparation for an upgrade to Lion, I booted off of the original Install DVD into the Apple Hardware Test, and ran one pass of the extended test. It took about two hours. No problems were found. Next, to use Disk Utility to check/repair the hard drive structure before the upgrade, I restarted while pressing the C key to boot from the Install DVD. The DVD was accessed, the grey Apple screen displayed, but at the end of the boot process the striped display appeared instead of the expected system installer display.
This Install DVD boot failure is repeatable.
I have rebooted with no problem from the hard drive.
I have rebooted off of this Install DVD, but into the Apple Hardware Test (D-key pressed), and rerun the short test.
I have reset PRAM and SMC, but the problem remains.
It is possible that the Install DVD was not used since the 12/2010 graphics processor repair, until now. Although I do not intend ever to use the Install DVD to roll back to MacOS 10.4.9, this is the tool I'm supposed to use to repair my system hard drive.
I'm baffled because this problem only appears when booting into the installer program. Is it possible that the repair of the graphics processor (or even the SuperDrive replacement) introduced an incompatibility between my MBP's hardware configuration and that expected by the Install DVD

Woke up today and my 13" white macbook (purchased last august) has a green line in the right quarter of the screen. bright green and thin. only doesn't show on white. runs the length of the screen - starts at the battery indicator all the way through the bottom.

I did book an appointment at apple and showed someone at the genus bar but at the time he said it was just due to the keyboard pressing against the screen and if i cleaned it well it would go away. In saying this i had to buy this cleaning kit which he said would do the job. At the time in the apple store it did seem to fade but i now feel that was just due to the stores lighting. I still have the mark months later and its still as obvious as it was before. I was wondering if you guys have any advise on how to get rid. I only see it when its dark and there is black on the screen and though it doesnt bother me that much in a few weeks im selling this and would prefer to have the problem fixed. i did do some research and didnt find much, only thing i did find was about replacing the screen and i cannot do that due to time and money and am sure there is a easier way. i have attached a photo trying to show the ghost mark (in the black box) but because i took it on my iphone it doesnt show well.

I have an issue with selecting (restart). If i choose restart after a software update, from the apple drop down, or when i select the drive in startup disk in preferences, it will boot into a gray screen with ? mark. if i choose (shut down) from apple drop down menu and then start up from the power button on the air, it boots up with no problem. I have checked with the SSD maker and i have the latest firmware I cannot use the old HD to see if it is a drive issue. Its dead.
