Mac Mini :: Defect (slip Screw Close To Fan)?

Sep 4, 2010

If you did not upgrade Mac mini RAM, you may not notice what I saw. Be aware of what I found and unbox in Apple store if you buy Mac mini 2010 in store, and check if you got same batch products I got. Otherwise, genius bar may deny your warranty.I got chance to unbox three new Mac mini 2010 due to machine transfer and replacement. I found two of them have the similar problem. I noticed one of three screws (the smallest one, close to RAM) fixed the fan is stripping out. It cause me to use a third-party software "istat pro" to check hardware, I found only hard disk Tm sensors working, no CPU Tm sensor and other Tm sensor's information.Another Mac Mini 2010 from MacMall has no issues at all. Moreover, the defect Mac mini did has louder noise coming from hard disk and fan than the perfect Mac mini and freeze two time in my 7-day usage (2-3hours/per day).

I went to Apple store and got replacing whole unit by a new Mac mini in Apple store yesterday. BUT the new one has the similar problem (same screw stripping and no Tm sensor) out of the box when I tried to update RAM today. Make me feel I should buy a lottery recently. In addition, make me feel unhappy today is the guy in the genius bar suspected me trying to move the screw and tear-town of machine, rather than satisfy customer. BTW, one of three managers I met is rude (I went to the same store three times within two days). If I were what they suspected, I must be very stupid to damage the screw two times (lose warranty) and then go to Apple store trying to replace again. To be honest, I am a backup for department IT support. I know how to tear-town Mac mini 2010 if I want to.I just want to make things right. The genius bar told me they will run a system diagnosis. I got feelings that both defect Mac Mini may come from the same batch of products. It may have more in the market.

Just noticed this. See the attached image. Did Apple just show us a new keyboard? The keys appear to be more spaced out and square than the current keyboard, and the Command key is now a key. It could also be a prototype.

MacBook Pro :: Unboxing Video And Pics Of 17" Core I5

Apr 14, 2010

Like a lot of you, I've been holding out for the new MacBook Pro's. Today was the day. I almost sprung for the 15" Hi-Res but decided to go all out and buy the 17" with the 1920x1200 screen. I've owned pretty much all of the Mac notebooks since the PowerBook days (12", 13", 15", and 17") and there is something about the 17" that sets it apart from the rest. It is hands down the sexiest 17" notebook on the market today. I just love it.

Applications :: Click 10 - 20 Times In New Cell - Excel

Jan 30, 2010

In excel, whenever I try to type in a cell, I must press the first key 10-20 times before it shows up. It doesn't show up delayed, as in it shows up with 20 a's, it just shows one. Once the first key shows I can type anything else in that cell, but when i hit an arrow key or click to go to another cell, I have to hit the first letter 10-20 times again. I have to click 10-20 times to click into a new cell as well. This just started today. I've tried restarting excel a few times, but It didn't help.

Applications :: Send SMS From Mac Via My Mobile / Cell Phone Number?

Oct 31, 2010

I'm looking for a program/app that will allow me to primarily send SMS from my Mac using my current phone number. Does anyone know if anything like this exists? I can only think of something like this working in one of two ways: Sending an SMS composed on my Mac through my mobile/cell, via Bluetooth or some other method? OR Using software that emulates my mobile number to compose and send SMS?

I remember back in the day you could actually email an SMS to a phone by using their mobile number as a username and their network as the domain - e.g. 07123456789@orange.net. Unfortunately, because pretty much all the networks now provide email services too, doing that nowadays means they will actually receive an email at their online account instead of their SMS inbox.......................

MacBook :: Can't Connect To Internet With Tethered Cell Phone

Dec 29, 2009

I am in India with a cell phone that has an unlimited data plan and legally allows tethering and has blue tooth. I am trying to connect to the Internet through the cell phone using blue tooth to my Macbook. I can "pair" with the cell phone but cannot connect. My new Macbook is running Snow Leopard

I can see the Nokia 7210 by clicking on the bluetooth icon upper right on the Mac. I can see the Macbook in the cellphone and click on connect in the cell phone.

Then the cell phone says "connecting to Macbook" followed by "service not supported by other device".

I have clicked on every combination I can find in blue tooth preferences on the Mac but can't get it to connect. Under blue tooth in the Mac it says paired but not connected.

Sometimes the Mac asks for a user name and pass code for the cell phone and it also asks for APN whatever that is. The owner of this cell phone tells me there isn't any username or passcode necessary and he has successfully connected through Windows notebooks without so using.

OS X Technologies :: Applescript To Cut And Paste First Word Of Numbers Cell

May 19, 2012

I'm creating a Service in Automator, and would like incorporate an Apple script that will "cut" the first word in any Numbers cell that I select, and "paste" it into the cell directly to the left of the the cell I've selected. Let's assume the column I'm selecting from is Column C. As a very rough start, here is what I have (with some of things I'm trying to accomplish in brackets): on run {input, parameters} try set MyText to input as string set FirstWord to first word of MyText set [remove the first word and a single space from what I've selected]tell application "Numbers"tell table 1 of sheet 1 of document 1 set theRow to [the row of the cell I've selected] set value of cell 3 of theRow to FirstWord end tellend tell end try return inputend run.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Border Color Of Active Cell In Excel

Jul 6, 2012

Is there a wayof changing the color of the border of the active cell in excecl?

I have a very difficult time seeing the pale green. I waste a fair amount of time modifying formulae because I'm in the wrong cell. Making it a different color or making it more vivid, or bold, would be great.

Tried going into Apple preferences and Excel preferences, but did not have any luck.  Maybe I just didn't do the right thing once there.

Applications :: Excel - Number Hidden Beneath Cell's Displayed Text ... Possible?

Feb 21, 2010

Is there a way to have a cell display text, but behind the text is actually a number figure that I can ask Excel to use in calculations? I'll explain what I mean to give you a visual so you'll understand what I'm trying to do. I want to create a monthly budget in an Excel spreadsheet. I'll have one row for each day of the month, and maybe 3 or 4 columns for in which to put expenditures for each day.

Let's say on the 4th of the month I have a Visa bill due, I usually put gas in my car and I pick up some Dry Cleaning. I'd like to be able to type Visa, Gas and Dry Cleaning within the row of cells for the 4th, and have the dollar amounts for those expenditures hidden beneath the text. Then I'd do a summation formula in the last column to tabulate all of the hidden dollar amounts to give me a total for that day. This way, I can see a total expenditure figures for that day (in the summation column) and what the money went to, without having to do the spreadsheet the old-fashioned way of putting the Text in one cell and the dollar figures in an adjoining cell (which in this case wouldn't work in a columnar sense since the text cell would have to be either above the dollar cell, thus making the text cell in the previous day's row...or, putting the text in say, cell B2, and the dollars in row B3, and doing the same for multiple charges per day, which would make for a very wide spreadsheet.
