Aug 19, 2009I have a macbook os x that is about 3 years old. I enabled firevault recently. This computer worked great until I enabled firevault. When I try to log in it will not take my password. After multiple attempts it ques me to type in my firevault password. It then asks me to change my password. When I do this a window pops up and says " you are unable to log in to the user account at this time. I have read many threads with the same problem. All signs point to needing an update. I dont understand how I can do an update without logging in. I read something about logging in as a root, but the instructions are not simplified enough for me to understand. Does anybody know how to fix this problem and explain at about a third grade level?

Feb 20, 2010I inherited a G5 from a colleague who left the department however I was not given a firmware password. So now I cannot re-install the OS OR work in terminal. I have tried the remove RAM and then reset PRAM. I have tried booting off disk but that is locked. I have tried replacing HD with new one but cannot boot off disk to install onto it. What is left for me to try to get this working and now the person is not available to just tell me what password is, they left months ago.

Jun 10, 2010A couple years ago i used my macbook for school and they installed their own administrative account, so i had 2 accounts, one for them and one for me, and i was always able to install updates and my username and password always worked until now.
i realized that their administrative account is gone and somehow got deleted! Now every time i go to install something my username and password doesn't work, and I'm 110% sure its the correct combo.
What do i do????? i cant access anything! i have everything backed up in time machine on an external, if i put my restore disk in will i loose leopard, cause that was installed after i bought my mac, and how do i re-install everything from my backup?
OS X :: WEP Password Doesn't Work / Connection Timeout
Jun 19, 2010So, this afternoon everything was fine until a few hours ago when the internet connection inexplicably started giving problems. Before that, I was just browsing on the web. I never messed with any network configurations.
I own an iMac 27" (Mac OS X version: 10.6.3) that keeps asking for a WEP password. I write it down but the only thing I get is a "Connection timeout" message.
I'm using a SMC router (ADSL 2 Barricade G) by the way. I understand WEP isn't the best choice, but the tecnhician said it was the only way to make all three computers have internet access. With WPA, the two Windows laptops had problems conecting. I changed the client to "No WEP/ No WAP" and every computer can connect to the internet. However, this isn't the desired solution for obvious reasons.
On the Mac, I removed the old network settings. I tried the $ (and 0x) trick but it didn't work. I also removed the old network passewords from the Keychain. I know the WEP password is right, because I used it on both Windows machines when I changed the client type back to WEP Only.
Since the SMC router doesn't display the WEP password, I'll download some password recovery software to find it out. I doubt this will work, but I'm running out of options. I'm not a tech guy.

OS X Yosemite :: After Installation Password Doesn't Seem To Work
Dec 4, 2014I recently upgraded my OS with the free installation for Yosemite. When trying installing Yosemite my Macbook Pro running Mavericks asked me for the user password, which I provided.Yosemite installed fine, no problems.Â
Now, however, I am needing to install some software on my Macbook Pro after installing Yosemite. Like before, it asked me for my password, but this time it came back as incorrect. I tried several more times and it's still registering as incorrect.

However, I can't follow the instructions past step 4:
4. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
5. Log in to your account....
When I click on Users & Groups, I don't see anything that allows me to log in to my account (I'm assuming it's because I'm already logged into it?). I only see options to Change the Password, open the Contacts Card, Login Options, and change Parental Controls. When I select "Change the Password", it asks me to enter the old password, which I can't do for obvious reasons.
So what can I do to recover my existing password?

Sep 6, 2014My apple user name and password haven't been changed at all for a long time. I have used it to access icloud and the itunes and everything.But suddenly the password doesn't work 'on my mac.'Â However it still works fine when I access icloud.com from my same computer.Â
But when I try to "manage my account" from system preferences (icloud), it doesn't work. And also, when I access the itunes store from my same computer it doesn't work. There are no error messages-- when I type in the password and press return it just reverts to the same page in which the password field is empty.Â

Sep 27, 2004i just got a mac, it has OSX. I was messing arround with it and setting up accounts, and i got around to making the admin account. Well i didn't want my sister to have admin (IN retro it doesn't matter), how ever i make my account, and make it a admin. Well as it turns out as i made the account you had to have some "Finger board"? password. and i lacked that. not thinking i shut down the comp for the night.... and then went back in the morning to relise that all i had was a user level account.

Apr 1, 2012I'm trying to install Photoshop and when it gets to the point where it asks for the password, I enter it but the password box just disappears for a second and returns asking for the password again.(I entered it several times with the same result each time.)I'm certain that I'm entering a valid admin password and that permissions for the applications folder are set to read & write for admin and system.Just to be sure I tried entering the password incorrectly and the box shook as it normally would when an incorrect password is entered.Has anyone had a similar problem with Adobe products or installing any other software on Lion?
Also, I just installed Adobe Lightroom last night and it worked just fine. And when I just tried to run the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool which also asks for a password and I'm having the same problem.So I know that it's not just Photoshop but I don't know if it's just something to do with Adobe or maybe all software which requires an admin password to install.Trying to repair permissions and run a virus scan now although I think these two options are unlikely to fix the issue.

Nov 10, 2009I had a very important file witch I had a password on. A .dmg file with password made in disk utility. Then i did manage to delete it from my Mac. I used Data Rescue 2 and got the .dmg file back.. But it had changed the name to D-00005.dmg istead of Private.dmg ( can not remember exactly what the file was named first )
The number one reason I know this must be the file is that it was 100mb. I only made one file with dmg file with 100mb. I remember the password, but it never ask for it when i try to open it. I`ll just get a message that it cant be open. If someone has a answere for me that can help me get what is in that .dmg file back I will transfer 50 usd on your fulltilt poker account.

Every other computer in the house, as well as my XBox 360, is able to connect to the internet using the password that I set up.
