MacBook Air :: Installed Fusion 3 And 32bit Win 7, Allocated 32GB To It / When Check 21GB Free?
Nov 10, 2010
I installed Fusion 3 and 32bit Win 7. I allocated 32GB to it. Now when I check inside I see 21GB free (I have installed MS office 2010 and Smartdraw). I have access to VM ware setting where I can reduce the size of the Fusion 3 from 32 GB to a lesser number and I was thinking maybe 22GB, thus reclaiming 10GB for Mac.Do you think making such a change on the fly will make something go wrong on the Mac side or inside the VM.....BTW, I have the fully loaded MBA 11.6".

I've had my iMac for just under a week now, and I wanted to play some games, so I did a Time Machine backup, and ran BootCamp. Vista install disk wouldnt work, so I used my copy of the Windows 7 RC1 32bit. That worked fine, its installed and working just fine, but when I went to check what it would show under "System" in the control panel, it shows my memory as 4.00GB and says 2.73GB useable. Is this normal? I know that 32 bit cuts off memory at around 3.23GB, and I was under the impression with Windows 7 and Vista SP1 the limitation was supposed to be moved to 4GB. Is this something I should be worried about? Also, I get some really bad lag spikes on Windows.

I installed Windows 7 beta in VMWare Fusion on my new aluminum macbook. It's pretty cool how seamlessly it works within the OS and spaces.
But what do you guys use your virtual machines for? How often do you have it open? What OS do you use?

I installed W7RC and VMware fusion did everything for me. I remember when I installed XP I had to put in my OSX disc to install drivers to make certain things work...? Do I need to put my OSX disc in with the RC and Fusion 2.0.5?
Everything seems fine but I'm not familiar enough with windows to actually know.

I installed Windows 7 through VMWare Fusion's easy setup. Can I use this existing Windows installation to make a BootCamp partition? I know Windows can be used vice versa (BootCamp first, then VMWare), but I already installed Windows 7 with VMware first.

I used Bootcamp on my new MacBook Pro 15" to install Windows XP Pro. After some troubles everything worked fine. Then I got VMware Fusion (latest version) installed and attached the Windows XP Pro. It did some magic, booted and all was fine. But then the problems started. I could not select any start up disk in the Preferences of Mac OS X, except for Network boot. With the Option key I can select between Mac OS X and Windows XP just fine.
I can boot Mac OS X from the Bootcamp Panel in Windows XP. I tried several things like removing VMware files for the Windows XP thing, removing partitions, but I still couldn't select anything other then the Network boot from the Startup disk in Preferences. In the end I took the install DVD of Mac OS X, used the Disk utility and started all over. I would like to use VMware Fusion to boot the Windows XP partition to do some stuff I can't do in Mac OS X (work related).

I installed Snow Leopard, it did it's thing (took about 30 min) then restarted. My question is how do I know if it took? I can't see anything different at all, which may be the case, but is there a place to look and see if my OS is now Snow Leopard?

I currently am on an early 08 Macbook Pro 17". 2.4ghz with 4gb of RAM.
I've recently purchased a 32gb SDHC card. Trying to create a bootable emergency drive with os installed on it.
I plugged it into my Mac via usb adapter and it mounted fine. Was formatted as Fat-32. So went to disk utility and reformatted as 1 partition, GUID, Mac Os Extended (journaled), to make it a bootable disk for the os. When doing this it appeared to complete fine, but disappeared from my desktop. No longer showing up in finder. Still mounts in disk utility though. Tried different ports, rebooting, and reformatting,, with no resolve. Reformatted it back to Master Boot Record/ Ms Dos, and it mounts again fine in Finder. Can drag data to it with no issue.
Reformatted again as GUID and again it disappeared from Finder and desktop. This is where I'm confused...In Disk Util it completes the formatting and shows Map Scheme as GUID and journaled. The odd thing is that on the left where disks are mounted it shows the indented partition as disk3s2. Even though I've renamed it when formatting. It will maintain the name formatting back to Fat32, but not with GUID. Also if I try to repair disk it fails. " Disk Utility stopped repairing disk3s2 because the following error was encountered:
Filesystem verify or repair failed."Does not fail doing repair as Fat32.
Figured I would just try to install Os anyways and booted to install disk. When booted to Os it did list the SD card as an optional drive, but had the exclamation point listed as not being in correct format. Instructs to reformat as GUID. Went to disk util and reformatted and it disapears from select a destination.
My questions are.. am I missing something technical about these cards and formating as GUID?
Why will this mount in Finder and also in the destination screen for install if its formatted as FAT32, but wont show up in either as GUID?
Why does it show disk3s2 similar to windows partitions, even though it was formatted as GUID and renamed?
Not sure if I'm having an actual hardware issue with card, or have to do something to modify this to be useable. Tried this on a newer iMac with same result.

When I boot Fusion with MacAffee I get a message that there is an updated version of Fusion is ready for download. When I go to the site I'm offered a choice of just Fusion or Fusion with MacAffee. Since the boot message only talks about Fusion should I do the only Fusion download. Or should I get the combined one?

So I had a 32gb Windows XP partition that I want to upgrade to Windows 7.
I removed the partition via Boot Camp assistant, and when I tried to make a new partition, it's telling me that I have to "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try again."
What does that mean? Do I have to reformat (and subsequently erase) everything on my harddrive? If I have Time Machine set up, will I be able to bring everything back to how it was originally?

How's it going everyone, I'm fairly new to Mac and I'm not very technical at all. I just purchased an i7 15" and I'm confused when it comes to 64bit vs 32bit. Does the computer automatically switch between the two or is there something you have to specifically do to run one or the other? For instance, I downloaded Handbrake last night, it asked if I wanted 64bit or 32bit? I have no clue? I bought a powerful machine, I want to make sure I utilize it.

I have an Late 2008 Macbook pro unibody, 4gb, 320gb 7200rpm. I installed the bootcamp drivers off the leopard CD that came with the mac and all was good! I have since taken it to Australia for a holiday and need to reinstall bootcamp but left the Leopard CD back in the UK. Stupidly, the 2.1 bootcamp drivers on Apples site don't support the Unibody mac! Can anyone please direct me to where I can download the Drivers (for 32bit XP home SP2) for the Unibody Macbook pro? The exact ones that are on the Leopard CD that came with the new Macbook Pro?

So I'm trying to manually update Graphics driver in Win7 32bit for the Macbook pro 13" mid 2010 version with the Nvidia 320M video card. I download and get this driver: 257.21_notebook_winvista_win7_32bit_international_whql
But it doesn't help me at all, says it can't find any drivers compatible with my hardware, even though I selected all the right menus for my card. I'm trying to play this one game, but it's bugged and I figure if I install a driver that's 5 months more recent it might help.

I need to populate the bays of my new MacPro 2.66 with 5GB RAM. The stock HD turns out to be a Seagate 250GB HD ST3250820A. I've found them online and wonder if I just should RAID three or four of them as opposed to one Seagate 500GBs or 750 with 32GB cache? These would all be a Raid run by Apple software not a RAID card.

My Windows XP partition is getting claustrophobic and it's about time I upgraded from an 8 year old OS.
Anyway, what's the easiest way to do this? I assume it'll have to be a clean install to go from XP to 7 and 32bit to 64bit.
I have a fair number of programs and several gigabytes of Steam games which is why I haven't done it yet.

I am running Creative Suite CS5 and noticed all plugins will not work, as CS5 works natively in 64 bit. I have tried opening in 32 bit and the beachball of slow goes on indefinitely and will not open in 32? I can still use plugins in CS4 then export product into CS5, but a bit of a long winded route...anyone else?

I am running an early 2008 Mac Pro: 4GB ram (only 3 running in XP) Dual Intel Quad-Core Xeon 2.8 GHz ATI Radeon HD 2600 256MB So over the last couple months, I've been getting some extremely bad and annoying freezing problems when playing Left 4 Dead on 32bit Windows XP Home Edition. The last sound played repeats over and over again with the screen freezing; this has lasted anywhere from 5 seconds - 40 seconds. My frame rate doesn't seem to be making a huge difference, its consistent at 45-60 fps when its on pretty simple settings:
Anti-Aliasing: None
Ansiotropic Filtering: Trilinear
Vertical Sync: Disabled
Multi-Core Rendering: Enabled
Resolution 1650x1050
Shader Detail: Medium
Effect Detail: High
Model/Texture Detail: Medium
Paged Pool Memory: High
At first I thought it might be my Graphics card over heating but tonight I tried it with the case open and a very powerful fan blowing air directly onto the card and the problem continued. PS. this hasn't happened with any other games but it doesn't run Crysis very well but thats obvious because well...its Crysis and even with it I have higher settings on. I've also cleared the computer of any spec of dust, just so you know.
